Wilson Blade Pro (V7 or V8) 16x19 vs 18x20

Both V7 & V8 18x20 were strung with RPM Blast 17G. The on-spec V7 was strung at 48lbs & 5 grams heavier V8 was strung at 45lbs. Both are great rackets, even if the V8 was a bit over-spec’d.

Based on my direct comparisons with v5 Blades which I suppose boast the same skeletons as V7 and V8,
choose:
- 16m if you tend to strike upwards all the time or rely on heavy serve or have knee problems. Generally, less accurate but more powerful and higher launch angle.
- 18m if you have attacking style and hit also hard through the ball. After all, spin potential is pretty similar between the patterns.

The 16/19 v8 98 I played with had a full bed of Luxilon Savage and I have never been able to control/shape the ball as well as I did that day

Hit w v8 18x20 today. Feels great, have lead tape on 3 and 9 strung w VS touch 58 / 4G 53. Gonna change grip to leather. V8 feels a little more maneuverable than v7.

16x19 is really powerful, that was stock and I think it was one of the lower SW spec, low 330s.

Big banger Original at 51lbs worked well, black code at 51 did not.
I decided my game was better suited to the 18x20 and sold the 16x19.
I think a soft poly or hybrid strung tighter is what the 16x19 needs to control the launch and power

18m has far less power than the 16m, at least on the V8. Only version I played with back to back.

Not crazy about above poster recommending a 4 pound difference in a hybrid of Gut and Poly. They’re already going to drop tension at hugely different rates. One week of play and it’s going to easily be a 20 point tension difference with the different material properties.

A pro who plays new strings all the time and isn’t buying his racquets, nor storing them strung for potentially weeks at a time is a very different story.

5 lbs difference ;)
Have you played with this setup? I restring my racquet once a month and it is perfectly fine. A hybrid of natural and poly has amazing feel.
Week of play/hitting and the racquet tension isn’t too different

I could pick up a V8 Blade Pro 18x20 with these specs:
Weight without strings: around 310g-315g
Weight with strings: 333g
SW: 337g
Balance: 32,8g

What do you think?
Is the 18m considered to be a great racket or shall i go for the 16m?

Hi,

All our Artengos (@JGads, @Power Player for example and mine) have either 1g (my case) or 1.5g added at 3 and 9 o'clock+ overgrip, big dampener and tape head guard (for me) and it is still not as powerfull as a Blade Pro v8 16x19.

There are BP 16x19 on the Sales forum here, at TW, I am just getting a third one from @KC! (he has one more in L4). Also Wilson Labs has L4 in stock.

@JGads is better of discribing the differences (you may want to ask in the racketholics thread or the BP one), or someone like @tim-ay...Myself I would say that Artengo is better than BP at the net and serve placement, both in 16x19, but overall I prefer the BP for power, stability and still feel and control.

GL!
