Looking forward to your commentary. Have 4G/LXN gut in v7 Blade 18x20. Currently maining v9 16x19 and looking at the same options as you.
I havent tried element yet.

I want first to compare Gut/4G against 4G/MLT....... to see how much MLT softens up 4G, how durable it is and what damage MLT does to 4G feel......i am trying to found cheap solutions to soften up 4G...... i didnt like 4G soft and rough full bed that much so 4G to me is the only option before going to test element and IR soft.

Have you tried 4G Desert Bronze? I tried it and found it to be somewhat softer that regular 4G, liked it a lot.

Of course. Have tried it on my previous V5 and V9 now. Yeah it’s softer….. i would suggest it to anyone that needs a softer 4G. Liked it more than 4G soft. I still found regular 4G to have a more direct connection and kinda raw / harder punch that i prefer :)

Very bad experience with multifilament. MLT even on the crosses took over 4G which was on the mains. Unbelievable. Very mushy and low powered experience in the point where i was trying hard to make the ball go deep.....that could hurt my arm in the long run. I always hated multis in full bed and now i hate them even in the crosses. Only Triax had somehow a decent connection. 4G/Sensation and 4G/Lynx Touch were also better but still not enough byte and control....they were pretty launchy......so 4G/MLT is out and tomorrow i ll try Element and afterwards IR soft. Gut/4G plays great......zero issues.

I've tried gut mains/4G crosses, and agree feels and plays great.

Has any user of the v6 non-cv tried the v9? Any thoughts? The stiffness is pretty different (68 vs 62) on paper

I have both -- in fact they're the two standard Blade 98s that I have in my bag right now. I also have a Blade Pro 16m, but that's a totally different frame...

v6 non-CV: a little stiffer, but not by much; a little bit more access to spin, but not by much
v9: feels lighter to swing (but I have an underspec frame), so needs a bit of lead to match the feel of the v6; same amount if not more power; more stable.

I like both rackets, and have used them both within the last couple weeks. I used to main the v8 but I sold it when I got the v6 non-CV followed by the playtest v9. I think the v8 was the softest and the most laser-precise of all the Blades I've tried. But the v6 and v9 have more pop. Still, none of them have put-away power and they make you play a little more defensive tennis. They're easy to keep points alive and they're remarkably stable. Won't get pushed around too much, either on the baseline or at the net. But I don't think you'll notice a marked difference in stiffness. I think all things considered I prefer the v9 by just a nose because of the extra stability and power.

Favorite strings in them: Element, Pure Rush, Alu Rough, 4G, Wasabi pro.

Not doubting any of your info but I just cant understand how a 68 stiffness racquet has the the same power with a 62 one.

I am checking out the wilson blade v9 16x19. I am a main Pa98 user 330sw with tour sniper 23kg. I tried the blade, 330sw as well, with hyper g 23 kg and I find it somewhat powerless, particularly on my forehand. Any string recommendations to boost the powah??

What don’t you like about the PA98 that you’d consider the blade? I would try a gut/poly hybrid, or something like pure rush at around 48 lbs to see if that helps with power. Otherwise I’d say what you’re experiencing is a core difference between the two frames.

Well its the flat serve and the 2hb, the blade performs massively better on those two departments. Not considering the switch, however if i can somewhat match the power the pa98 provides on the forehand...who knows. Gut too expensive, i am a full poly guy...

2) Head Lynx Tour Champagne 1.25 Mains / Head Velocity MLT Black/Natural 1.25 Crosses

I have 2 different setups surrently on 16x19 (V9):
1. Head Lynx Tour Champagne 1.30 Mains / Head Hawk White 1.25 Crosses
2. Luxilon 4g 1.30 Mains / Head Hawk White 1.25 Crosses

First setup plays a bit more crisp, more spin, a bit loopier trajectory and little less arm friendly. Both have top notch control. I have tried HH and HHT as a cross in 18x20. As far as replacing HH with HHT, the latter will add a bit more power, feel and comfort compared to the former.

Let me know if you have any specific question?

I don’t like the basic grip of blade v9. I don’t know what has changed in the geometry of the grip or the buttcup but i couldn’t hold the racquet with confidence like previous blades. It’s slipping out of my hands. So i was trying most of the basic grips out there (Wilson/head/solinco/babolat/dunlop/tecnifibre etc) and even the new from Wilson RF01. Finally the one below solved all my issues:

I purchased it in white color and I apply it with medium stretch.

Does this make the grip feel bigger or smaller or about the same? Numbers are 1,9mm vs 1,8mm but this does not always speak the truth...

Is someone stringing the v9 98 16m at 21kg or even lower with a comparable string like TBHS7T? Do lower tensions work without sacrificing too much control?

Hi All, i just purchased a Blade v9 98 16/19, after using RF97 v13 4 years. Beginner/intermediate level. I would like to make the blade feel a-bit more like the RF, what would be a good first step for mod given specs (will insert image w specs) thanks in advance and apologies if covered elsewhere.

Actually couldn’t figure out the image.

Blade strung
Total weight 321
Swingweight 322
Balance 330

Rf strung

a lot of weight in handle but here is link to customization tool

Thank u for the tool! I guess a follow up would be: what spec would be a good first step, incremental? I would imagine a leather grip and about 6 grams split between 10/2?

I'd cross with a softer round poly.

This is a deep thread so I am probably re-asking the question:
With the growing popularity and demand of 18x19: any chance Wilson releases an 18x19 version?

I use gut/4g soft 56/54, was thinking to go to 50/48. What is your tension?

V9 vs V7 anyone ? ;p
I can’t compare them directly. I used the v7 18x20 for some time. Ultimately switched to the v9 16x19. Not as plush. But not uncomfortable as all. Less mass based power-to be expected. Much better spin-again no surprise. I like the v9.

Haven’t used the blade in years but the v7 was my go to for a long while. The v7 rocks, had amazing feel and super soft. Only gripe was that it had an obnoxiously high swingweight and I had to switch away for that reason. But if it had a lower swingweight and a slightly more open 16/19 I’d have bought 10. Rock solid on volleys and serves too which is great cause I love to chip and charge/rush the net.

With the v9 it seems wilson was basically blending the v7 and v8, specifically regarding swingweight. But, as has been said a million times before you need to get each blade measured. I have 3 v9s 16x19. The static weights are all within 2 grams of each other. But the strung swingweights are 311,319, and 330. Im not the most sensitive to slight differences in racket specs but the 330 sw blade plays significantly different.(some players might prefer it, but to high sw for me) I don't ever use it. Bumped the 311sw one up to 320 so I have a matched pair. Otherwise I love them.

Yep, Wilson’s QC is straight garbage. My v7’s were all over the place with some feeling ok and one of them feeling like a 340 swingweight, just a straight club and unplayable.

Interesting, I have 4 V7s 98 18x20 and they are all within a gram of each other and the swingweights are also all very close: 295, 299, 299, 301.

To get to similar SW on my V8s however, I had to pay for matching and even apply a bit of lead afterwards.

In fairness to the companies making rackets, it's gotta be so hard to get swingweights equal from frame to frame as far as a manufacturing process. Obviously it can be done, but the cost would probably be so much higher.

Playtested the Blade 98 v9 at my club today. Wanted to ask people's opinion on the differences between 98 and 100 versions. To my preferences the 98 felt too underpowered and super muted. I guess the control was good, but felt like I needed a lot of effort to get the ball going. Would I feel improvements on those areas with the Blade 100?

IMO power levels were pretty good, but I agree that it was super muted. Stability was phenomenal tho.

Still don’t understand why they won’t release an 18x19 under pro labs.
It would have to be a better sell than the ultra 97 16x19, no?

You can tell a difference.
Big time. Not just launch angle, but there’s something weird about the 18x19 pattern Blade. It’s the only racquet I own where poly main strings will get stuck deflected and lose snapback within 30 min of play. Can’t figure out why. Strings on the 16x19 last much longer, and of course the 18x20 even more.
