Wilson Blade V9 2024

Sounds like we need more Blade models :)

Blade 98 Soft (61RA) 16x19
Blade 98 Soft (61RA) 18x20
Blade 98 Stiff (65RA) 16x19
Blade 98 Stiff (65RA) 18x20
Honestly that’s an interesting concept and I wonder how that would sell. Not worth the headache for Wilson I’m sure, but that would be super cool to have the specs be the same and just vary the stiffness.

Oh ya and I’d also prefer 16x20. As a Fischer fanboy, that’s my favorite pattern.

I don't know exactly how TWH measures stiffness, but I've bought 2 frames and they matched some of V8 16x19 frames to let me choice best pair for me... and all of them had 65 or 68RA:

Frame 1

Weight:305,2g
Swing Weight:290
Balance:31.9
Stiffness:65

Frame 2

Weight:306,5g
Swing Weight:292
Balance:32.2
Stiffness:68

Frame 3

Weight:306,7g
Swing Weight:292
Balance:32.1
Stiffness:67

Frame 4

Weight:306,5g
Swing Weight:292
Balance:32.0
Stiffness:65

Frame 5

Weight:305,8g
Swing Weight:288
Balance:31.8
Stiffness:65

Frame 6

Weight:306,1g
Swing Weight:291
Balance:31.9
Stiffness:65

are those V9s?
If so, the weight and sw looks unchanged from V8 model. The 68 unstrung stiffness would reflect the biggest change. Strung, that comes down to 65, which is what we've all been expecting. The 65 unstrung stiffness is too close to the V8 to make any meaningful difference. That is not counting any kind of change in the layup tech.

No, they are V8's but I surprise the stiffness variation from original specs (61RA) and reality. I know about tolerances in 1, 2 or 3 point, but 4 or more RA seems to me too much.

Were the higher stiffness v8s Noir or traditional green?

yeah looks like they finally changed the grommets to black. badosa and other steam players all have it like that now.
I am assuming the 16x20 string pattern will not be in the new Blade release.
They should have the Blade 100 at 16x20 instead of 16x19. Similar to what Babolat is doing with the new Pure Strike 100.

They have Wilson Blade 101L which is 16x20 but is sold only in Europe.

Just as they don't sell Wilson Blade Team 99 16x18 in Europe but it is available in the US.

Blade 1001L is a very nice racquet. To me it seems like the closest thing to a Steam 100 and I would dare to say it is a 100 sq inch headsize despite the 101 they put on the label.
Also there is a version with very nice cosmetics available in Germany.

of course its going to be matte, retail blades are never glossed like the pros. if you want a glossy blade you'd need to buy a blade pro.
Honestly I haven’t bought a Wilson in years and last time I was at my local shop, I could’ve sworn the V8s were shiny…..which I would’ve been wrong about apparently. Still a very nice green.

Other than Wilson I played Babolat and Yonex but I always kept coming back to Wilson.
Seems like we are meant to be together. :D

They would be unstrung stiffness, so strung the 65 should go down to around 62 and 68 to 65.

V9 is a darker forest green with maybe a very slight blue tinge with fluorescent grommets- nothing like the blue/purple ultra
I miight need to check the colour on my monitor as the above pics look much "bluer" than the live feed of de minaur on TV which highlights the green.

worth keeping in mind the pictures are all reflecting off blue courts with blue signage... so they're going to look more blue than they might normally.

They look good BUT two things: (1) they're hard to distinguish from the Ultras, and (2) they broke the black and/or green lineage.

Prefer the V8 color, V9 is very similar to ultra. However as an Extreme Tour owner my opinions on color are obviously messed up;)
