Wilson Clash string setup and at what tension

Thanks for your comments. If the Multifeel doesn't end up working out well for me, I'll consider it. What's your opinion on Hyper G 17 gauge in a Clash? Or Volkl B Square 17 gauge? I bought them back when I bought Cyclone, but after the Cyclone experience, I've been hesitant to try them.

Hyper-G is a pretty firm string, more so than Cyclone and less comfortable in my experience. Volkl V-Square is a much more elastic and comfortable string that had excellent spin capability, but the downsides are that tension maintenance was average at best, and it notched against itself very quickly for me. Because it was so good at generating spin, it was also sensitive to incoming spin, most noticeable when volleying a heavy underspin shot.

Of the two, I think the V-Square would be better for you to try. Hyper-G is more likely to give you the same arm pains you had with Cyclone. Now that you've tried Multifeel, maybe string the V-Square pretty low, like around 44 pounds, and see if that is cushioned enough for you.

Good luck!

Just bought a Clash Pro Tour 100, i’m 44 yrs old, ex 5.0, i got some serious GE issue, i always played at 53/54 with natural gut or some multifilament.
My style is with a lot of spin and powerful, I need control and a good amount of power without destroy my elbow.
I was thinking about a NRG2 1.25 or 1.30 at 53lbs
Thoughts about that?
Thank you!

I have been using NRG2 17g at around 48-50 lbs in my Clash 100. I like it...

I posted in the racquet thread this, but so far tour bite soft has been good for me. I've been testing a few strings a d still have some to test but TB soft is my favorite so far. Even better if you are coming from injury. It's pretty soft. Its lively but I like that it keeps me swinging smoothly.

hyper g is nice as well, i liked it. 17 and 16L. I just had again an amazing match with my tour bite soft setup in league play. Creating an upset in ladder league against a 4.5. Maybe its just random, but didn't lose at the start of year, then tried another string, lost 2-3 times, now I come back on tour bite soft and not losing. I like the feel and high trajectory its giving me. Its lively so its keeping me swinging smoothly through the ball and being super constant. thats probably just a personal preference where i am gelling with that feel.

both of hyperg and tb soft are good choices.

I traditionally play with tension at 60lbs, do you know what the equivalent would be for the Wilson Clash as it's something which would not work strung that high

Have ordered another 100 with Tour Bite Soft at 50lbs. Will also get a restring this week. Will try RPM, Tour Bite, Hyper G or Pro Line Evolution, not sure yet though

My Volkl Cylcone Tour 16 @ 52 experiment is still going strong, despite the 11h30 of hitting and playing. I'm starting to be anxious for my other packages to arrive now hehe. No one in town has that. Still like Tour bite soft but will string a bit lower than 52 next time to get that similar feel.

TennisSpin on youtube says to string low with the Clash to get the special feeling. MIght try one with that soon.

I strung my 98s with Element and ALU Power at 47#. May try 45# next time.

One of the guys I string for just picked up a Clash and wants it strung with Vs Touch/RPM Blast but has no idea where to start with tension. What would be a good place to start (stringing on a lockout machine)?

I just picked up a Clash 100 unstrung. I bought a couple of Luxilon Smart packages to try out as plan to string at 44 lbs. However, the shipment has been delayed and I plan on playing tomorrow.
I am a good 3.5 approaching 4.0. I am recovering from golf elbow which is why I would prefer to play with the Clash ASAP vs my current Blade v7. Can someone give me some advise on what strings/tension to use based on what I currently have at home?
VS Touch 16, RPM Blast 17, Gosen OGSM 17, Ashaway ZX Pro, Luxilon 4G

Thanks!

Recovering from a GE, using a Clash tour as well, I recommend you some good arm friendly string, natural gut like babolat vs, multi like head velocity, or "simili" Poly "new tech" like technifibre triax. Very good string, lower tension, between 40 and 47 lbs

I had terrible tennis elbow a few years back from an AeroPro Drive GT. Couldn't even lift a coffee cup for 6 months without feeling like someone was stabbing me with a knife and forget about shaking someone's hand -- excrutiating. Switching to the Clash 100 Tour solved it for me and even let me continue hitting poly -- I eventually settled on mains with RPM Rough 17 @ 52 and crosses with Head PPS 17 or Gosen AK Control 17 @ 52. Tons of spin from the hybrid setup and the Clash made the poly no problem for my elbow. YMMV.

After playing with the Clash for a couple of years, I have no sign of tennis elbow anymore and I'm playing with fire a bit by moving back to a stiffer racquet, but I still love my Clash.

Hi guys, can someone advice me a string setup for my clash pro? Im not happy with my current(lux smart44,sensation46). The control is just not there, the strings move around a lot.
Im a flat hitter and was made to be aware of goin for a string that is shaped. I dont have any arm issues so happy to try full bed poly. I heard some very good reviews about solinco confidential or TB in the clash at around 48- 50pounds. But they are shaped so Im a bit confused here

-choose/pick what ever poly you want to try,
-i would suggest starting with something you have access to
-string them at 50lbs.mains/48lbs.crosses (for most polys; a little lower for the stiffer ones)
-if you need help with the tension, get the poly first!, then come back to us for assistance

I played with the Clash Tour from when it first came out until just last month. I tried a lot of different strings and tensions and eventually settled on these four strings:

- mains - either RPM Rough 17 or Hyper-G 17 @ 50
- crosses - either Head PPS 16 or Gosen AK Control 16 @ 50

I found a full bed of poly was too muted in the Clash since it is so flexible. Going hybrid gave me a little bit better feel and pocketing. I found that PPS and AK Control both stay slick until the poly goes dead. YMMV

Solinco now selling Hyper G soft.

Tried a few setups with my 98. I typically like gut/poly hybrid setups in my other frames but not so much with the Clash. I settled on a full bed of 4G @ 50/48.

I hit quite flat too. I have tried many strings in my Clash 100. I‘m currently using TIer One FireWire / Ghostwire at 53lb, it’s good. In my other one I’m currently trying Mayami Tour Hex, which is also playing nicely.

I have just cut out Tecnifibre Triax, that was very comfortable and performed well. I change my strings a lot as I‘m a stringer and there are so many strings to try.

One string I hated was Element.

Silver 7 tour 17g mains and Gamma Jet 18 crosses. Plays awesome. Lasts a long time.

HyperG soft is quite good. I would try 17g strung at 40 lbs. Low tension soft copoly really shines for players that are able to accentuate the brush motion (low to high swingpath) because it generates overwhelming amount of power/spin and really makes you feel like you can hit nadal-like loopy topspin shots

I'm getting ready to string my clash 100 with VS Touch 16 /RPM Blast 17. Leaning towards using the VS Touch in the mains. Still can't figure out what tensions to use. Would VS Touch @ 54/55 and RPM Blast @ 50 play well? Open to suggestions.

Thanks!

sounds about right...the more comfortable you are in adjusting your swingpath to a more brushy type stroke, the lower u can go in tension but that sounds like a good middle ground to start

17G is sweet spot for many players. I typically prefer 1.15mm.
Power will still be not like SG or multi but spin will be great.

I actually feel that poly has the ability to generate more power because poly allows the hitter to swing out more while still being able to keep the ball in hence why such a large percentage of high level juniors (if not all) use poly. Not to mention the thunderous BANG sound when you whack a ball that makes it sound like a cannon/gunshot is absolutely awesome.

It is true that Poly lets players swing hard and yet the ball lands inside.
But this also puts strain on the arm and shoulder (depends on technique). Low tension and less stiff polys can reduce this issue.

Thunderous BANG sound from poly?

Have you heard the sound from NG?

NG doesnt produce the same BANG as poly from my experience
