Wilson Crossfire 2's starting to hurt. Suggestions for shoe w/good forefoot cushion?

Well it seems that my honeymoon with the Wilson Crossfire 2's is over. While they are surely one of the best offerings on the market currently, I've developed some pretty bad pains in my forefoot, and the lacing system kind of cuts into the front of my ankle too much... so I'm gonna have to bail on them. I've had this problem with a number of shoes, particularly adter several outings......the forefoot cushioning seems to degrade with time, and my feet pay the price.

I have tried, so far, the Diadora Speedzones, Adidas A3 Accelerate, Nike Vapor Speed, Nike Resolve Max, Wilson Crossfire 2, and NEw balance 1001's. The Speedzones murdered my feet, the A3 accelerates' sole wore out too quickly for the price, the Vapor Speeds suffered from the "heel-popping" syndrome, the NEw Balance were way too clunky....the Nike REsolves so far have been the best for me, although they have very little ventilation, making them a tough choice for summer ball.

Any other suggestions along these lines ? : fairly wide forefoot, medium to medium-high arch, and ample and durable forefoot cushioning, decent ventilation, durable sole, and not too heavy/clunky?

I've been trying these and the Barricade II over the past several weeks. I have to agree that while the fit is extremely good, overall comfort is average. I'm experiencing a bit of discomfort in the toe area and feel that it needs a little more cushioning in the forefoot section. I think the Barricades are only slightly better in cushioning. Also, the tongue moves around too much with the Barricades. Anyway, although they do not wear well, I'll probably go back to the K-Swiss 7.0 Ultrascendors. Haven't tried a shoe with better cushioning yet.

Nike Breathe Free II is the 2nd best I've ever worn. Durability is questionable, but there's a 6 month sole guarantee.

Give the Prince T10's a try, 6 month wear warranty, and very comfortable. Prince shoes are wider than Adidas.

try a pair of asics. they won't last as long as BII but the cushioing is one of the best I've found in a shoe, especially in the forefoot.

i have a friend who wears the gel invasion and he has feet like fred flinstone so they should be wide enough for you too.

Of course, that now begs the question, which is the 1st best shoe that you've ever worn?

How long do the soles last on those Ultrascendors? Also, have you tried the Barricade 3's? Do they have more cushioning than the 2's?

if you can get your hands on some gel eqvists they are pretty sweet. from the tw range, the challengers are a good bet. Like I said before durability is not the strong point but if your not a toe dragger you should get reasonable wear out of them.

cushioning is much better than the Barricades and they are lighter too, although my barricades are far more durable (but I miss the cushioning). just depends on what your priority is in a shoe - comfort or durability.

do Asics fit true to size? I measure 9.5 and wear 10 in Adidas , 9.5 in wider Nikes but 10 for narrow Nikes like Vapor Speeds.

Has anyone heard anything about the Asics Gel Sensation or I con? They seem to feature a new sole warranty.

I play about 3 times a week for 1.5 hours each time out and I average about 4 months on the KSwiss. I didn't try the B3s since the reviews on the B2s were better.

The BIIIs do have more cushioning than the BIIs but also are a lot heavier. Have you tried getting an insole? That might help your forefoot since most shoes will wear down in cushioning before the outersole wears out.

Heheh. I intended on saying that in my original post and didn't realize until seeing your reply that I didn't.

The Nike Oscillate is my favorite tennis shoe ever.

I liked the Crossfires as well, but when the cushioning goes, it goes. And they are hot in the summer. My current shoe is the Resolves and I've had several pair, but this summer they seem to be too hot for me, or maybe it's the thick nike socks I bought. I'm moving to the Breathe Free II's this week w/ some nice thin Eurosocks and hope to be cooler. Will save my resolves for the winter.
