Really????Custom frame from Wilson????
it is surprised to see this statement from the article. "Keep in mind; you are only ordering custom paint/cosmetics from Wilson not custom weighted or balanced tennis racquets from Wilson!"

Definitely Wilson often checks TW forum so I want to say this " Wilson should focus on your quality controls instead of paint jobs anymore".
Wilson should go back to fundamental issues then start from there. Stop doing marketing BS.
I don't want to see racket companies more focus on Paint jobs instead of weight and balance.
I believe all serious tennis players care more about their weight and balance instead of paint jobs.
I prefer to buy weight and balance matched racket with bare frames (No colors at all. just bare blacked frame).
if someone really wants special paint jobs, let them do themselves (or hire talented custom painters).
rackets are not nikeID shoes.

Well to be fair those are things a person can change themselves. The Wilson QC would be nice to have addressed... but weight and balance are all easy enough to change.

A high quality custom paint job is a much better thing to outsource to Wilson than do your self.

If they did it all (Paint, weight, pattern, balance, length) I feel like it would be similar to head and cost $400+

This way I can get the paint I want and spend 10 bucks on customizing materials and play with those specs myself

You pay for $300 and weight and balance is still off???
Do you really believe custom frames will be higher quality paint job?
Quality of paint job will be exactly same as current rackets. Just different colors of choices.
Same concept like NikeID shoes.

I am a pretty firm believer that they can make paint in retail-style designs far easier and more durable than the average person could do at home. Custom paint rackets I have seen here are definitely unique and a fun way to express personality... but they never look as good as retail rackets.

I for one like wilsons current designs and the ability to customize the colors is nice. Even if you don't you are welcome to paint your rackets at home if you want. Its a good option for sure and not a full solution but its a step in the right direction.

This will be more than enough for 95% of the people who will want to use it. It is just business

Are there any other options than the camo or solid colors? Trek Bicycles did something similar with their Project One service, but they also offered some cool designs/patterns.

I don't see how this is a bad thing-- more options for players is a good thing. You can customize the frames after market if desired, or just use TW service for matching. It would be ideal if specs were matched/chosen by players, but that would almost certainly drive up the cost. Maybe Wilson will add that option in the future if there's enough demand.

i call it "Rainbow Sherbet"
You could use it in USTA to troll the opponent.

I think this is a good idea....... doing a decent PJ yourself is super hard, getting it anywhere near like the factory finish is pretty much impossible. And they seem to offer a decent range of colours and options. Whether the extra $50 is too much time will tell, and trying to sell it again might be hard with custom PJ.....

Only available in the US of A by the looks of it.

Of course!
Use a freight forwarding company like Borderlinx....... you should get a discount on your first shipment if you lucky. Australia post do "shopmate" as well and they havent lost anything for me yet......... fingers crossed.

Shopmate works, but it adds $40+ Aus dollars to the cost; with the exchange rate you're probably looking at close to Aus $450-$500 total?

I would color my custom request all black glossy including the label! Finally, an easy way to an all black shiny tennis racquet with your name on the inside throat.

Would have been nice for Wilson to allow custom weighting and balancing but they'd have to have skilled technicians to handle what could turn into a a lot of orders and I can only imagine how many complaints/returns customers would have about things not being "just right". The Angell operation is much smaller scale so the personalized attention that Paul and his team provide probably really cuts down on "complaints".

With that said $50 for a custom paint job is fine, in my opinion. No one is forcing customers to buy it.

Speaking of specs...
The downside of this custom paintjob will probably be that you don't know the specs you will be getting & by that I don't mean that the paint will weigh more or less. What I mean is that they will have the same randomness of specs as you get buying from a store without using matching services.

So while it is fun to have a racquet with your preferred paintjob if I had to choose between similar specs or a better paintjob I take specs any day.

These custom rackets don't need to have custom weighting and balancing. All Wilson needs to do is say they are guaranteed zero tolerance. So... you pay $50 to get the correct specs AND a cool paintjob.
Imagine that. Actually getting the specs that are listed. Custom specs would be cool but you could easily do it yourself if the racquets you ordered all started the same.

AWESOME from Wilson.... well played..... makes me want a Wilson frame (just a little bit).

Remember, we are the 1% when it comes to the tennis market, the other 99% have no idea about balance, customization, polarization, lead tape etc etc etc..... If you want a personalized customized specs frame you better cough up $400 plus per frame (and what benefit are you gonna really get? I still spank the fart who got THREE personalized hideous-painted frames for about 400 each...).

I think its gonna be a hit. Cheeky monkeys those from Wilson marketing. I think its very very cool.

I think it's a good idea. When selling racquets to my female clients, and some males as well, I sometimes get people asking, "But does it come in this colour?", so there is merit in this idea.
Also for the racquetholics and OCD types you can have a different colour for every day, or revel in the idea that you now have the complete colour set.

For right now Wilson will limited to three or four models. I love to get my Ultra Tour completely glossy and all black with my name on the inside of the throat. I cut back my order from 4 to 1 in the hopes down the road that the Ultra Tour will be added to the custom Wilson list. I also looking at the upcoming Dunlop Srixon CX 100 too. The graphics is just perfect for me.
