Hey guy,

I got this racquet from local store, wilson hammer 5.5 spin. It looks really good racquet, but has a round and too thin beam. May be 14-15 mm ? Anyone can point me out about its history? Is it a classic racquet? I did't try it before, so have no any ideas about it. Would you please suggest me about string type and tensions?

It's hardly a classic but a collectors item for sure. I'd be interested in a getting another one of these in a clean condition. As for playing characteristics, it's way too flexy and i find it really hard to play with it.

Without doing the research, the Hammer Spins date back to sometime in the mid- to late-90s, if I recall correctly. The ultra-thin beam was their claim to fame. Failed to catch on because there are practical reasons why an ultra-thin beam is not that workable, like too much flex and lack of twist-resistance (both of which Wilson tried to overcome with their Hammer technology). No question the Spins have true "feel appeal," though - you want that kind of whippy beam to work, no doubt. Hope you like it.
