Wilson K Factor Six One Tour 90

All,

Have been a lurker for a while, but finally wanted to write my first post.

During this COVID pandemic I have rediscovered my old passion for tennis (played in high school and some rec in college). Also discovered that I cant stand new light rackets. Went back to the old trusty K factor. I am definitely not good enough to play with this racket (I am a 3.5 player) but its the racket I am most comfortable with.

Now the problem is that my head bumper is destroyed and I cant find any to replace it with, given how old the racket is.

Is anyone using this old classic? If I do decide to switch -> is there anything close to this racket that is being currently produced? Probably not in a 90, but is the RF97 the next closest thing?

Does this racket still have a cult following that it used to?

Cult following i would say yes.

Grommets, you can post a wanted ad here but other than that I'm not sure.

If you want something similar in feel but not as heavy i would start with a regular prostaff. They weigh 315g (i think) instead of 340g unstrung. It'll have that classic prostaff feel without also being a log.

Maybe look into a Prince 93P if you still want the control and precision of a mid. Nice thin beam and similar specs overall..if anything like the POG Mid it would be a great stick.
RF97 is a fantastic racquet but would take some adjusting to coming from K90. Very forgiving if you can tame the power. Another option is one of the non RF PS97s and then lead up to your taste while keeping it nice and whippy

RF 97A quite different from K90s etc maybe even clunky
Need to really concentrate with it

93p is just a pure joy

I'd just suggest something with similar weight and balance. Yes, the RF is similar in this regard, but if you want something easier to use, there are a lot rackets in this style. Heavy, but head light. Prince has a bunch. Maybe something at like 11.5 and 7+ points head light. I always say it's best to go light, and then add weight since you obviously can't take weight away.

Prestige mid.

I playtested the graphene 360+ prestige mid recently and it played very well. Older prestiges I’ve tried felt like a noodle but this version hits crisper for sure. Quite a dense string bed for a 16x19 but plenty lively and pinpoint control. Only downside is no cap grommets :/

I would just keep looking for grommets. You can still keep using it. In fact you might explore other Wilson 90s, like the 2014 PS90 (and possibly add a small amount of weight at 12, with a slightly lighter grip, to try and get close to the specs of the K90).

There’s just nothing close to it. The Phantom 93 is a really sweet racquet but needs a string pattern in between its 18x20 and 14x18.

Ditto on this comment. Nothing that I've tried to date comes close. But there's options that if you commit to them you should be able to make a transition. 93p and Prestige mid are two good options. Easier to swing, one with more of the classic feel and the other with more modern easy power. I'm in the process of testing the Prestige mid, though I don't think I'm ready to commit to the change.

Still, neither scalpel-like as the k90.
If you're interested in grommets PM me, I found a site that offers them cheap, though cheaper quality than the originals. Nevertheless, they still protect the head and do the job.

I would suggest VCORE 95 but if you prefer the boxier and thinner beam, then Prince rackets should have you covered. I used to use K90 back in HS but nowadays, I went for VC95 which is soooooooo easy to swing. It is also lighter while still being a lower powered racket.

@lelopez I tried to send you a PM, but I could not do it for some reason. I think I ended up writing on your profile or something. Shoot me a PM if you can, or let me know how we can better connect.
