WILSON NATURAL GUT

Hi

How good is wilson natural gut. I was told that it's comparable to VS touch and the string is actually made by babolat.

It's the babolat vs power from ages ago. I never liked the stuff, even during stringing it would fray. I belive it is old stock, which never got sold because babolat phased it out in favour of the vs team, which is MUCH better. Serena seems to like it, but thats because she gets it for free. I broke a set of the stuff while stringing at this year's US open, my only broken gut job, was on Sargisian's frame i think, or might have been Kutznetsov, they use the same rackets

I've used both 16g and 17g. The 17g is much better and comparable to NRG 18g. Never had any problems stringing it. Lasts about the same as a 17g multi in my PK 15g Lite.

I've also heard it's the same as VS/Babolat Power, but for the cost I'm sticking with the NRG 18g which may even be a little better.

My hitting partner tells me the gut is a heavier ball, with slightly more power than the NRG but to me the NRG feels better.

18g?

you've had a whole racket strung with 18g? how does that feel?

I've tried the KLIP natural gut and it feels amazing. I've used the nxt strings by wilson before.

thanks

I've tried almost every types of string, and everytime I'm disappointed when it's not Babolat VS gut. The consensus is right, not all guts are the same. Although some said that Wilson gut is an older brand of Babolat VS, but from my experience, they perform the same. Right now, I have Babolat VS Touch on one St.V PS 85, and Wilson Gut on the other ST. V PS 85. Both are strung at 64#. The power, control, and feel are almost exactly identical. I alternate racquets every time I play, so I'll see if its duration is the same?

NRG 18g is the best string I've found so far. Great feel, excellent power. Of course doesn't last as long as 17g or other multis, but I'm not a string breaker and neither is my racket. I usually cut them out in 3 months anyway.

NXT is very good, but I like NRG's better. The NXT Tour 17g is very similar, softer than NXT

Have Babalot/VS team 17g coming from TW today and will compare with NRG 17, NRG 18, Wilson Natural Gut 17g and NRG Bi-Phase 17g and NXT Tour 17g. Ya, I have a bunch of PK 15g frames. I string at 50 to 53 lbs, depending on string and weather on a Neos 1000.

Yeah, Serena has just started using that stuff recently, maybe as recently as the beginning of 2003. Much better than synthetics that she's used in her adolescent years. However, it's not as good as the VS Team or VS Touch. Venus, on the other hand, uses Babolat VS Touch, which she probably has to pay for since it's not Wilson. From what I've seen/heard Venus is much more picky about her strings than Serena.
