Wilson NXT17/AluPower125 – Alternatives

Hi,

For the last 10 years, I have been using only one hybrid string combination – Wilson NXT17 for mains and Luxilon AluPower 125 for crosses. Mostly 24/23.5kg
Sometimes I exchanged NXT17 for X-One BiPhase 17 which I guess was more powerful, durable, but with a bit worse touch/feel.

I was wondering if you could recommend me some comfortable alternatives with great feel/touch.
What do you think about NRG or NXT Control? Are they worth to use in hybrid?

I probably tested at least 100+ rackets during last decade, but I have a very little experiance with strings.

I am mostly flat hitter with one handed backhand. Current rackets of choice are Head TGT293.2 (IG Prestige MP, 18x20), Head TGT291.2 (IG Prestige S/Pro, 16x19) and Blade Pro.
Also liked Wilson H22, Dunlop CX200 Tour and Tecnifibre 315 Ltd/Tf40.

NRG and x one biphase are both not bad

Wilson sensation isn't bad either and also somewhat cheaper than the nrg and biphase

As far as crosses , if you weren't using a textured poly such as luxilon alu rough, you have alot of cheaper and arm friendly options for a cross in place of luxilon alu power

I'd say try for the crosses:

Volkl cyclone tour
Volkl cyclone
Tourna big hitter blue rough

If you are use to regular NXT, stay away from NXT Control. It is a low powered brother to regular NXT with a stiff coating for durability. You may also want to use a cheaper round polyester like Gosen Polylon. The ALU cross will not have more longevity than the Polylon; they'll be similarly bad.

I remember I have tested both NRG and X-One. They seemed both fine, but not better than NXT. X-One was more powerful and durable.
However, I didn't like Wilson Sensation at that time. The sound and touch was much worse.

I guess cheaper options for crosses would be good options. Thanks for the recommendation.

Thanks. I will avoid NXT Control. What would you recommend more durable and maintaining the tension than AluPower and Polylon?

my best hybrid is natural gut (tonic) with kirschbaum max power on cross.

but, when it's the rainy season, my best alternative is pro supex maxim touch classic with kirschbaum max power (try tourna BH silver 7 tour who having a best tension maintenance compare to max power), but, prefer round poly on cross)

BHBR is one of the worst TOURNA strings; I don't know how you came up with this one.

I want my poly cross to have above average tension maintenance, but the Cyclone string family doesn't do well in that area. So those are puzzling choices, too, ime.

I'll give +1 for Max Power (smooth or Rough) as a value poly cross, especially with the pricing TW has on reels currently.

Well I don't personally like BHRB, but I do know alot of people fond of it, and it is definitely cheaper than the luxilon alu , and still has the alu fibers .
I've heard good things about kirschbaum max power as far as tension maintenance and playability. Pre stretched isn't it?

If you aren't going natural gut, I think nrg and or x one biphase are your best choices quality wise

Although of course at that close to $20 price point some people say just go up and get the natural gut though......

Max power is my go to cross now in any hybrid. It holds tension very well, much much better than Alu power.

Mayami Absolute Perfection mains 17g and Tier One Ghost Wire 19g in the crosses. The combo is around $8.95 a set. You can still pull people off the court with slice serves and you will appreciate the directional control.
