Wilson Plans Anniversary Edition Six One 95? (Putting this post out for general discussion/debate – You heard it here first!)

The Wilson Pro Staff Classic marked the beginning of what has evolved into 25 years of the ‘Classic’ Wilson Six One 95 - 1990/91 – 2015/16.

Will the next 2016 iteration (predicted late 2015) mark a 25 years Anniversary Edition of this ‘Classic’ frame?

Is the recent global price drop of the back stock of the BLX2 and the current BLX3 versions designed at clearing stocks to make way for a marketing success of an Anniversary Edition?

Will an eighth Anniversary Edition poignantly finally mark the end of the Six-One ‘Classic’ 95 era? - RIP or continually evolving?

Would you like Wilson to produce a 25 Year Anniversary Edition?

What should be its looks, materials, etc.? – I’m thinking it should certainly show a nod to its 6.0 & 6.1 PSC heritage. – Post your designs.

What are people’s views and thoughts? - Let TW and Wilson know.

The Six One 95 25 Year Chronology:

1991 - 2001 - Pro Staff Classic 6.1 95

2001 - 2004 - Hyper Pro Staff 6.1 95

2004 - 2007 - nCode (Pro Staff) Six-One 95

2007 - 2010 - (K)Factor Six-One 95

2010 - 2012 - BLX1 (Basalt) Six-One 95

2012 - 2014 - BLX2 (Amplifeel) Six-One 95

2013 - 2015 - BLX3 (Parallel Drilling) Six-One 95

2016 - The 25-Year Anniversary Edition???

I would add the 2000 Millenium edition to the list. It was painted to look like a Jack Kramer autograph and was a limited edition numbered release with a COA and signed card from Jack Kramer.

Take the nCode, add parallel drilling, get a great new paint job & re-release.
Avoid amplifeel and kFactor stiffness.

Definitely should my opinion is that it should be all black with only one side of the throat painted classic rainbow

If the Pro Staff anniversary edition is any indication, it will be initially priced at $360 and then drop to $130 a half year later.

It's down to $119 and still dropping. My point about how Wilson doesn't respect their customers. I wonder how the initial buyers who paid $360 feel seeing the PS and Juice Anniversary Editions priced at $119?

I recall Wilson claiming they would limit the release to 2 racquets per dealer to justify the outrageous price. No respect.

I agree the frame should be predominantly black but with a very discreet and subtle wink to the rainbow reference of its PSC heritage.

Materials wise, like the RF/PS97 I'd also return the frame to its hybrid graphite & Kevlar origins. (Indeed, after 25+ years the RF/PS97 materials have gone full circle returning to this)

If as many prophecy the end is nigh for the Six-One 95, rather than just fizzling and fading from view, a final 25 Year Anniversary Edition would mark a fitting farewell as its heritage evolves into the 97 range.

Ultimately, if there is to be a final Anniversary Edition as with all things it will come down to profit and whether sales of it would distract from other Wilson lines. Personally, I think an Anniversary Edition would be a fitting farewell but I am a hopeless sentimental romantic.

What are others thoughts and views?

What are Wilsons thoughts and views?

Wilson Anniversary Edition Six One 95

If the Pro Staff anniversary edition is any indication, it will be initially priced at $360 and then drop to $130 a half year later.

My proposal would be that the Anniversary Edition is not an expensive 'special/supplemental' edition to the range. Rather, that it is simply the next, 8th ('possibly' final) iteration of the Six One 95 therefore retailing around its usual entry price point.

The Anniversary aspect would simply acknowledge and celebrate the quarter of a century heritage which this iconic and classic racquet has given; whatever its future thereafter maybe, whether it separately continues or morphs into the PS97?

Wouldn't mind if they borrowed the color scheme from the Roland Garros APD and Wilsonized it.

I just bought a blade and black is cool but let's mix it up a bit.

Agreed!

As the PSC 6.1 served 10 years 90/91 - 2001 of the 6.1/Six One's Twenty Five Year legacy it would be only right and appropriate that the 25 Year Anniversary Edition should in some way acknowledge the aesthetics and origins from which the 6.1/Six One 95 family lineage was born.

('Few' other racquets can make the claim of having been largely unchanged for 10 years. This no longer happens for commercial reasons (now seemingly 2 year Wilson rotations), nonetheless it remains a fact of the PSC 6.1, and upon which the subsequent 6.1/Six One 95's has thereafter largely continually evolved).

However, that said, and I think what heninfan99 identifies (and maybe knowing or not eludes to in regard of the Babolat RG APD) is that the subsequent 6.1/Six One 95's (while admittedly following the cosmetics of Federer's Tour 90 iterations) has also always encompassed the predominate colours of Red, White and Black.

So, equally I think the design of the 25 Year Anniversary Edition also needs to subtly (or boldly?) capture and encompass this aspect of its history - Perhaps not an easy task - enter PeterFig!!!???

Personally myself a 25 Year user, collector and advocate of the 6.1/Six One 95's I'd like to see its continual rotation. Indeed, I'll be sad if the end is nigh for the 6.1/Six One 95 as many posters on other threads forebodingly predict. However, sentimental as I am, I know and accept change and progression. I've played both the RF97 & PS97 and can certainly tell and feel the 6.1/Six One 95 heritage within both, easily more so than the 6.0 or Tour 90's (which IMO should never have had Six One in its title). The conclusion of which is that whilst I'd desire to see the ongoing continual 95 rotation I, and I believe fellow 6.1/Six One 95 users could relatively easily (compared to other racquets) with a little adjustment make the transition of transferring to the RF or PS 97.

The 6.1/Six One 95 is the longest serving 'evolving' Wilson racquet of 25 Years. I use the term evolving in the parameters that it's has largely retained its specifications within the frames moulding process, whilst embracing new materials/innovations/cosmetics etc.

Yes, the 6.0 has served longer and is itself the origin of the PSC 6.1, but the 6.0 has has not evolved in the way the 6.1/Six One 95 has. Rather, the Federer Tour/PS 90 iterations are closer (but separate) in design to the 6.0. Indeed (although inappropriately titled Six One), the now discontinued Tour/PS 90's never made the 25 Year cut.

Both separately the 6.0 and Tour/PS 90's are great frames, undoubtedly the greatest Grand Slam winning racquets of all time. However, by itself the 6.1/Six One 95 'currently' over its 25 Year history is arguably worldwide (I'm sure Wilson have the marketing and revenue numbers) the most popular Consumer and Pro used racquet within Wilson's 100 Years history.

Personally I would love to see the 6.1/Six One 95 continual rotation beyond its 25 Years. However, if this is to be the end, the final farewell for the 6.1/Six One 95, don't let it's Anniversary and retirement simply fizzle and fade away. Rather, lets celebrate it and have Wilson give it the proper send off it has so richly earned and deserves with an 8th edition - 25 Year Anniversary Edition!

Come on Wilson Make it happen!

I would like the 6.1 95 Anniversary edition to resemble the classic look of the past.
Matte black with Red & Yellow accents.
Classy and mean looking

First of all great idea! I am an HPS and 6.1.95 blx user and I must say that this line rocks.

The best of the bunch I agree with someone above is the Ncode, although each version has its own strenght. The BLX has the most power and stability.

The look should take after the Hyper pro Staff, one of the best looking racquet ever made for me.

Looks like most of us are vectoring towards a pj with some red in it and the nCode. Wilson, are you listening?

and no new flared butt cap, please.

I agree. I'm not convinced Special or Limited Editions ever work (except maybe to collectors) - Excalibur, Jack Kramer (graphite) Pro Staff, and indeed the Centenary Pro Staff & Juice. (I'm particularly baffled by the zero heritage 100 year Juice!)

For clarification, I'm not suggesting the the Anniversary Edition should be a 'Special or Additional Edition but rather that it should simply be the 8th 6.1/Six One 95 iteration with a RRP in its usual range but at the same time recognising/acknowledging the anniversary (& revenue) of its 25 year history.

I'd like to see it painted with the flags of different countries...make them 250 a piece and make only 1,000 of each country. That would be awesome...as long as they have them available in the 95S variant.

Wilson thoughtfully recycled elements of the 6.0 85 when they designed the KPS88.

I would like to see a 6.1 95 anniversary edition using elements from the 6.1 Classic.

It would be great in red and White, same design of RF97 and Burn, a few grams slimmer, sw in the 320 region. Or a modernized Hps paint job.Wilson: do it!!

Agreed with @Seth ... Good call mate, hopefully we get some touches of former iteration cosmetics, K-Factor/nCode/BLX/Hyper Pro Staff/

Hopefully @PeterFig sees this and can pass on our preferences and thoughts!

If this makes it to the US, I will buy three.

As I said in a different thread: I wonder if there will be a matching bag like Wilson released with the KPS88?

Unfortunately just heard from a very reliable source that they'll be no US release of this frame. That ruined my day:(

I really hope your source is misinformed.

It kind of makes sense, though. Until the nCode series, the 18x20 Wilsons were mostly European releases.
