Wilson Pro Labs: Blade Pro Official Thread

Between the pro lab UP 16x19, 18x20, BP 16x19, 18x20 which frame(s) is most flexible? I miss the OG PT280 being flexible at the throat with upper mid 50s RA, but would love it in 16x19. Basically Murray's PT57B.

Hit with my BP 16x19 a little bit today and wasn't the most thrilled with it. The majority of the time I was hitting with the new PD since I'm on the playtest for that, and hitting with the BP really just felt like a bit of a chore, tbh. Everything was a little more fun and a lot easier with the PD. It was a bear of a day, though. Super windy and hot, and in better conditions it might have felt better.
Part of the problem I'm sure is also that I've enjoyed the PD a lot more than expected.

Haven't seen all the numbers, but my guess is the UP should be a touch more flexy than the BP, but we shall see.

If you are a fan of the pure drive it is unlikely you will enjoy this kind of frame! Not bad, just different strokes for different folks!

I thought ABM uses A-2, and the B is the twin tube radical?

Well, yeah. Traditionally I haven't been a fan of PD's. I've been using Blade 98's for the last few years, and the RF97 and 6.1 95 before that. So it isn't that I don't like this kind of frame. I was just surprised, given the feedback I've heard so far, that I didn't like it a little more initially.

Thanks for the clarification! Makes sense.

So, that makes it about 6.5% less stiff than say an AK90 or PS97 (both 66) ;)8-B
Is that 66 strung? Because if so the Blade Pro 18x20 should be 58-59 strung so closer to 10% less stiff :p. Although the hoop of the BP is firmer than the throat/shaft so I could see why people think it plays stiffer than its RA.

Just got a pair of H22 16x19. Sending it in to tennisspin for matching customization.

If this is Harry on the YouTube channel by the same name, do let us know how this works out. Not to put a downer on your plan, but from what I've seen, he's never actually demonstrated any sort of matching customisation work on a pair of racquets in any of his videos. Only ever just loaded up with a monster amount of lead tape on single frames without any sort of pre-application measurements, weighing or use of a customisation tool (which helps a great deal for checking that the planned weight additions and positions will produce the intended outcome).

Sorry if I sound a little dubious and it may be totally unfounded.

I used a 6.1 classic followed byRF97s as well. I recently switched to the Ultra Tour. My issue with the 16/19 BP was it had too much power which didn’t work with my swing style. I can play with the 18/20 BP but the SW and balance is much different than my UTs so it’s quite a change in terms of timing my swing.

Yessir. Haven't tried them yet, can't decide which color :p. Although I don't usually use dampeners and the BP certainly does not need one once the grommets and strings settle.
Nice pickups! I personally use the Green, Black, and Wimbledon color ones. good to see what other colors look like in person. Thanks for sharing!

I actually found it not to have as much power as I was expecting - I was really expecting something that felt like a v7 Blade with more power. It felt like a firmer, more solid v7, but the power level felt around the same. It was a weird hitting session, though, since my main objective was getting more experience with the PD for the playtest.

Anyway sorry about that.
Back to the Blade Pro.

mine arrive to HK this week. Will customise and write a comprehensive review!

Not sure if this has been brought up yet, but the Blade Pro 16x19 has different string spacing compared to the H22 16x19. The string spacing on the actual racket you receive is even different to the pictures on the Wilson site.

Got my specs from the stringer.

My BP 16x19 (unstrung with plastic on grip) is 315g static; 313 SW, and 325mm Balance. Better start working out. I'm estimating this will be around 325g static (I will add overgrips etc after that), around 343 SW (which sounds fine)... and not sure of balance.

I'm stringing it with MSV Co-Focus 1.18mm @ 53 lbs (Mains - as my stringer said they are quite powerful racquets), and Weiss Cannon Explosiv 1.30mm @ 57 lbs (10% Pre-stretch in the Crosses). Fingers crossed.

Btw, on topic of customization, I always found the TW tool quite easy for matching especially if your specs are not far off anyway. Give it a try you may be surprised if you’ve been reluctant to customize yourself

Some a**hole is selling a blade pro on the bay for $800. They have it listed as an H22 Pro stock and no mention that it’s a blade pro, even though if you zoom in on the handle you can kind of make out the sticker that says blade pro.

Report him. Don't know if possible on the bay but most auction sites have the option. Give a link to Wilson Blade Pro on Wilson.com and it should suffice.

315g unstrung is just a joke at that point. If you figure 2-3g for the plastic, 8-9 grams variation from the listed weight is appalling. Mine comes in Wednesday, would hate to send it back but might have to if it’s above 310

Isn’t the listed weight 305g? Is there anyone with an underspec frame?

Someone at Wilson just screwed up the weight target. Had they written 312g, all their frames would be within specs. 8-B

yeah seriously... i have not seen many under spec.. i think there were few...

What are the stringing instructions for the Blade Pro 18x20? Thank you!!
I was not able to tie off the mains at 8T which is my preference since it minimizes distance between last main string and tie off knot. I will have to manually enlarge the holes. Same for the top cross since I would like to tie off at 10H. Not a big deal but now you know 8-B.
