Wilson Pro Labs - Grip Sizes

I have a grip size 4 (4 1/2) in the Wilson Pro Labs 6.1 95, Blade Pro 16/19 & Ultra Pro 16/19. Enjoying comparing these 3x frames

I found the grips to feel quite different across the 3x models. 6.1 95 is the thinnest. BP feels average in thickness but some taper in the top hand (2HBH). UP is the thickest and also fuller in the top hand vs. the BP. Measurements with a tape support how these feel in the hand

Has anyone else compared these racquets and found differences in the grip feel? Or is this perhaps something that is specific to grip size 4?

The UP actually feels a full size bigger than the 6.1 95, but I'm not sure whether it would be safe to go size 3 (4 3/8) in this model, or whether the difference is specifically in the size 4 for the UP. Perhaps the 6.1 95 is an older grip pallet to match the HPS that its based off?

I use Wilson leather + Pro over grip. I'm confident that my grip installation is consistent. It is possible the leather thickness varies but seems unlikely it would make such a difference

Interested to hear any thoughts, thanks!

I find there's a little bit of variabilty in handle molds. For example, my Pro Staff Tour 90s are square feeling compared to my BLX 95, and then I have two Pro Staff Tour 95s that are very slightly different from each other.

I cared enough to "fix" my BLX 95 by strategically adding masking tape to build up certain bevels.

I don't think I will modify my Tour 95s.

The problem is the Wilson leather grip. A few years ago I bought 5 pcs and all were feeling different, the texture of the leather was different. There are other leather grip brands which offer a better consistency than Wilson.

Thanks for the responses

I agree that the handle molds vary in feel and taper as they near the throat of the racquet. I guess I just hoped that the area where your dominant hand grips the handle would match the actual grip size. However when comparing grip size 4 (4 1/2) in these 3x different racquets, theres definitely a difference. In my case, I don't think its the Wilson leather based on using these for years and regripping the UP twice with 2x different grips

I will try the dedicate UP thread and see if anyone found the same

What I did was take a cheap ($15) pair of digital vernier calipers and measure across the bevels of the racket I liked and compared it to the racket that was "off".

Then, I unwrapped the original grip, added masking tape to make the difference and then replaced the grip with a Wilson leather.

I would suggest measuring in a few places as the grip is not perfect in every dimension along its length, but also realize the most important dimensions are in the area where you actually hold the racket.

Also realize if you are using vernier calipers that you can't really feel 0.1mm difference, so no need to be OCD about making it match perfectly.
