You guys still hitting with it? For the past 3 weeks I have been hitting the the BP 16 and BP 18.

I need to bust this back out. My BPs are at 339g with a leather grip and 4gs at 10 and 2. 10 and 2 was much better than 3 and 9 for those.

I still have Cream in my UP but thinking about trying something different. My BPs have Hyper G/Vanquish and it has been a great combo.

Yeah, I still have my UP16... it's on rotation with all the rest.

Yup, the UP is still in my bag. Sentiment on the board leans towards the BP’s and I think that it is somewhat of a herd mentality. The UP is an awesome racquet but I still haven’t gotten mine dialed in yet.

If given the choice between more power and more control, I think the majority on TTW would choose more power, and that is reflected in a preference for the BP over the UP.

I love playing with the UT18 and the UP16, but the feedback from my hitting partner is that the weight-of-shot from these racquets is not as heavy as when I'm using the BP16. I can also see this in the number of shots it takes to win a point and the fact that my hitting partner gets to more of my balls when I'm using the Ultras.

So, for me personally, it comes down to what I am trying to achieve... win the match as efficiently as possible or practice my technique, hone my shots, and work to get fitter. If it's the latter, then the Ultras are perfect. I love how they feel, I love their precision, and I love their versatility. If I want to intimidate, scare my opponent on the return-of-serve, and hit big winners, I'd pick the BP16.

All three are great racquets though and I'm happy I don't have to choose just one.

No doubt the 'herd mentality' is a force on these forums, and I think it also applies to the more apples-to-apples discussion of the UP vs UT. I prefer the UP over the UT in just about every category, but I'm usually quickly 'corrected' and reminded of its inferiority. As far as the UP vs BP discussion, I see them being for completely different players and styles. The UP is a great one for mine, and I'm also still dialing mine in with mods/strings/tensions/etc. I shouldn't still be dialing it in, but I've been hitting too many frames. Always seem to come back to this one though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but let's say, hypothetically, you had to choose just one. I doubt it would be one of these three anyway. Am I wrong? I suspect the TC95 18x20 would edge them all for you, right?

Yes, I'm guilty of having too many racquets on my plate as well and therefore not being able to get the UP dialed in. I will spend some time on it. To me, it's a crisper UT with a more open pattern. Remember when we all dreamed of the chance to have a UT with a 16 pattern?

The whole subjective 'feel' thing is an interesting topic because it means different things from person-to-person. I actually find the UP more muted than the UT, which I prefer, because I like a muted frame that transmits just enough 'feel.' The UT is almost overload and off-putting for me (but the gold standard for others). However, I do find the UP slightly stiffer/firmer (in the throat) than the UT, despite the readings of ~61 RA by those who've measured, but I think that's why I'm getting the ball quality I'm getting with it at only around 335g. I wish the UP had the flex of the Gravity Tour or V7 Blades while maintaining its current 'feel' (likely an impossibility). To get that, you'd probably have to go 'Raiders' for an outrageously priced H19 16x19 or five, but I can live with the UP:)

I bit the bullet and bought a cheap, new Touch PP to satisfy the curiosity. With an ice storm over the weekend and rain and more wintry weather all this week, I'm not sure when I'll hit it. I've been banging volleys against the basement wall strung up with Cyclone Tour/Ghost Wire at 48/48, and my initial impressions (take with a grain of salt) are that there's a noticeable head wobble in the PP. Great 'feel' in the center, almost UT-like, but the frame itself seems more substantial (probably because stock it is8-B) than the UT. The UP seems more stable and much more forgiving out of the gate, but I get the impression that this PP will hit lasers from the baseline. The Touch PP should be my last hurdle before full commitment to the UP 16x19, unless it proves to be an insurmountable hurdle:-D Hate the TK82 grip shape, though.

I switched mine out to the TK82S grips, made a lot of difference for me. They are great racquets, UP16 is just GREATER.

Overall... Yes.

When you find the "one"... there is something great and thrilling about it... but also something sad. Does it mean that there will never be something better...? Does it mean that we stop searching...? Does it mean there is no reason to ever play with anything else...?

Since I'm not a Professional making money from my tennis... the answer is no. So, I experience all the flavours... but if I have to pick just one... at this point, it's the Angell TC95 18x20 63RA.

I experienced this "sadness" after getting the UP16. I was elated that I had found my perfect racquet, and I do believe it is perfect for me. It also meant the end to my "searching". I will play these racquets until the are unplayable. That means no racquets for me for a couple of years. That realization brought "sadness". The bright side is I know my equipment is solid, can focus on skills, mechanics and decision making to make the leap to 4.5. I think I'm almost there. Played a solid 4.5 a week ago. Split sets and lost 10-8 in the TB. Sooooo close.

I know you're right... makes one question the "racquet collecting" hobby though... is there a point...? Should we sell all the rest...? Can we enjoy the rest when we have "our" best?

Things to ponder... while adding more racquets to my e--- Watchlist. :D  :-D

The only time I'll sell is if I KNOW I won't go back or want the occasional nostalgia hit. I have matched pairs of:
Wilson Steam 99S
Head Graphene Touch Prestige Pro
Volkl C10 Pro

Not selling any of them.

Finally found the magic in my UP16. Lower tension was the key. My strings have dropped down to around 35# now and it feels great. Finally has the deep pocketing feeling that I find with my UTs and PPs strung at 45/43. Fantastic stick.
Sweet!!!!

The wobble you describe with the PP is what I described as a ”livelier” feel. Both the UT and PP have this livelier feel in the frame although the PP is more stable than the UT. I don’t find my PPs to be any less stable than my UP. The UP is definitely more stable than my UTs. I’ve found what you describe as “wobble” doesn’t necessarily equate to less stability. My PA19s have a lively feel as well and are very stable on volleys - in fact, they are more stable than my UP.

I think it is a relief to find the one. I’ve been on a tear with trying out racquets last year and frankly I’m starting to get a little weary of it. I’m down to the UT, UP 16, BP 16 and the VCP 97HD. I’ve got them weighted to my liking and now have to work out the string and tension that suits me best. Once I figure that out I could see just playing with one for the foreseeable future. I agree that picking one and working on skills is the way to go to get better. Good luck on your quest to achieve a 4.5 ranking. It sounds like you are close!

'wobble' was probably the wrong word, but you got my meaning. It's an immediate feedback frame, similar to the UT, but I just get the sense this one will reward clean hitting even better than the UT (more plow/stability). The UP probably 'masks' the mishit a little more (muted), which is why it gives the impression of being more stable, but the ball is probably doing similar things, although I do have 9g of lead added to my UPs. I haven't even gotten the Touch PP on court yet, so I'm basing all this off of volleys against the wall. Think it's gonna be very good and essentially render the UT obsolete for me, leaving me with a pair of UPs, a Touch PP, and Gravity Tour. And I have to admit that a pair of V-Sense 10 Tours have entered the conversation, but my son has first dibs on those.

Enjoying 16x19s again and shocked how much I like an 18x20 in a 100" tweener.

Latest string setups for this guy? I am pulling it out of the bag this week, but want to put in a fresh set. Had Isospeed cream. Hit with it yesterday and launch angle was way high. My BP 16 and 18 have hyper G and Vanquish and it is a good setup for me. Those are strung at 53/51.

Cyclone Yellow 1.30/Ghost Wire 1.27 is very good. I strung it at 46/48, but would drop that to 42# next go round. Up next for me is Cyclone Tour/Ghost Wire. I wouldn't string this one with poly above 45#. Wonder why your Cream is launchy? I don't find this to be a launchy frame for a 16x19. If it was, I wouldn't be hitting it.

Have PPBF 1.19 at 45# in one (this is my normal setup) but just happen to have Cream 1.23 at 45# in the other. I do not find Cream to increase launch angle compared to my normal string. I get more a little more spin with BF but a softer feel with Cream. Both are soft to begin with. While I like Cream in this frame, I cannot justify the cost vs performance compared to BF.

I'm tweaking the mods on my UP 16x19s to dial them in permanently, and I found something interesting. Maybe it was mentioned before, but on my preferred frame, the handle was filled with silicone in one chamber and foam in the other. On my second, both were foam filled. I wouldn't think anything of it, but I prefer the feel/response of the frame with the silicone. Funny how there's always a preferred one even when matched. Until now, I attributed my preferences for the one frame over the other to string differences (different hybrids in each), but I'm thinking it's the silicone. Am I overthinking it?

@Pneumated1 since the strings in my Touch PP and my unicorn 2015 blade 18m were completely dead towards the end of my hit yesterday, I thought of you and pulled out my UP16. I really enjoyed playing with it for the last hour. :)

I'm actually using your method to mod the hoop, starting with a 4" strip at 12 and staggering another 4" and 3" strip, respectively, to the bottom of the silver, both sides, 5.5g total. Still experimenting with counter mods.

I won't be able to hit it until later in the week. I've always liked the feel at contact, but strangely enough, I've never been able to dial in that ideal 'swing feel.' It's close now. I think it just needed that little bit more at 11 & 12 that it has now (and spread out a bit). My balance preference is 32.4cm usually, but if I just throw an over grip on it as is, it'll be 32.7cm. And just a few grams will make the difference.

What are your final specs and current string?

Is anything ever “final”? :)

I haven’t spent much time with the UP in the past month. Yesterday was the first time I pulled it out in about a month. Most of my time recently has been with the PA, Prestige Pro, 2015 Blade and a Prince Boron as my blast to the past fling. I only pulled my UP out because the strings in the blade and prestige pro were dead. I didn’t want to wear out the strings in the PA and realized it’s been awhile since I hit with the UP.

I want to say maybe you are, but I have two UTs matched with matching strings. I prefer one over the other and it is half silicone/half foam also so maybe there's something to the silicone.

Good point. I'll probably be playing it at 350g and 31.5cm next month:laughing: If only the Touch Prestige Pro had a slightly bigger hoop. It's perfect for me with just an over grip. Actually, it didn't occur to me to match the UP to the PPs specs. Maybe I have already. See how permanent this is?

Maybe there's something to this hypothesis then. I'd really like to dial in a final spec on this pair because then I could do something drastic like mod with silicone. Having never used silicone, I wouldn't know how much foam to remove from one chamber to get 'X' grams of silicone. On the positive side, the foam would provide a sure stopping point for the silicone. Now I know I'm overthinking it.

I have to think there is a reason that customizers use it other than to add weight. I'm thinking of using my third UT as a guinea pig for modding frames. I could try silicone, though I'm not even sure what kind to use. It will also be the guinea pig for the @moon shot pallet treatment to put TK82 pallets on it

One way to find out... put the same strings in both before you change anything... and see if you still prefer the silicone handle one. Then make the necessary changes if your suspicions are right. I'm guessing you might be right... wholely or partially. As has been said, when they make mods for the Pros they use silicone... there must be a reason beyond weight.

Added 4g total at 3+9 to go with 5g from 10-2 and a leather grip. Took a couple sessions to get used to it but now really enjoying this setup. Without the additional weight the string bed felt a little boardy and power just wasn't there, but I could hit with crazy fast racket head speed so was getting really nice spin. I picked up a Blade Pro 16x19 just so I could understand all the differences between the H19 and H22 molds, and that sucker packs a punch and has this crazy hoop flex that just seems to hold the ball for an extra millisecond and feels awesome. This pushed me to add the weight to the UP. Stringbed is now silky smooth with a huge sweet spot (so much actually that I'm going to string tighter next time as the center of the sweet spot was a little too trampoline-y), and the even flex throughout the stick really comes out.

Ultra Pro w 125mm poly, Pb, leather grip and overgrip: 32.2cm, 343g
Blade Pro w 125mm poly, leather grip, and overgrip is 33cm, 335g

This frame takes mods very well. I'm experimenting with 5g (spread out from 12 down to 3:30/8:30) and 5g right above the butt cap on the pallet. Seems to have really brought this frame to life, especially the handle mod. I previously had 3g at the top of the handle, but dropping this weight is noticeably better for me. I have to agree with the poster above that the string bed feels very plush and explosive now, and yes, even 'trampoline-y' (in a good way). It's a pro stock mold; I guess I shouldn't be surprised that weight brings it to life. I'm probably looking for a third and maybe fourth very soon.

Also @zipplock, just wanted to commend you on your new signature;) Saw it elsewhere but figured I'd recognize it here. Nice!

How is the Blade Pro 16x19 on touch shots? (e.g. drop shots, angled volleys, etc.)

Serves? kick serves?

I've compared the two string patterns and it's interesting that one has 6 Mains in the throat and the other 8 Mains...however, the Mains pattern is identical (or so close it doesn't make a difference). It's the Crosses that are more spaced out on the BP compared to the UP.

I think when it comes to serving, the BP is capable of both flat and kick serves and due to the string pattern and the inherent power, might be better than the UP. However, the UP might be slightly better on the touch shots and volleys (but the BP would not be far behind). With the BP one has so much power on tap, and the racquet is so stable and has so much plow, that it's hard not to just blast shots left, right, and centre. It's almost necessary to remind yourself to try finesse.

Debating on biting the bullet and buying either the UP or a Pro Staff 97 v13. Current frame of choice is the 360+ Prestige Pro and the Angell TC97. I was planning on weighting up the UP similar to the prestiges I have (so around 335g strung and a 325ish SW). Can anyone compare the UP to the current Prestige Pro? I am afraid this frame will lack the power/pop I am getting off the prestige right now. I imagine for control they are pretty similar and spin to me is secondary. Just afraid to end up with a noodle like the 360+ prestige mp.

Prestige is stiffer in the upper hoop compared to the throat, so if you hit near the top of the hoop you get that extra pop from stiffness. The UP has a more uniform flex, similar in the upper hoop and throat, so a ball struck at the top of the hoop will have less pop than the Prestige.
