Wilson Pro Staff 5.1 specs

I was one of the winners of a few David Wheaton sticks on the bay. When I do a search for Wilson Pro Staff 5.1 mostly only Hyper Pro Staff Surge comes up. Anybody have any specs or interesting info on the regular Pro Staff 5.1?

Yep, that 95 is it but I can't translate any/all of that. Wonder what the story is behind Wheaton using this rare racquet. I put in an email through his site...

It may be this one ?

This model was sold only Japan. It was about from 1999 to 2000.

Are you sure it was sold only in Japan? Why would Wheaton be using a racket only available in Japan?

Does anyone read Japanese here who can translate what that page says?

Let us know if you hear anything. I researched that frame, too and it is like it never existed. Lots of references to the Hyper Surge version but nothing on that version. It is pre-hyper so it has to be mid-late 1990's era.

I'm assuming Wheaton used the 5.1 after the Head Pro Tour. It must play okay if he transitioned from the Pro Tour 630/280 to the Prostaff 5.1

Most of the pics I see where he's using the 5.1 seem late in his career. And he lists it as his racquet of choice on his current website.

And I think at that point, the 5.1 was long out of production. The Hyper Carbons can in around 1998-99 so I think the 5.1's must have been around 1995-98-ish. They spec as players rackets and if he still plays serve and volley the 5.1's must have good feel.

I used the 7.1 (also listed in the table) for many years. Very flexible. I played with the 5.1 as well, it was fairly stiff, and played a lot like if not the same as the 6.1. Both the 5.1 and the 7.1 were sold for many years in Europe, I would guess around 1992-1996..

Since the 5.1's in question were made for a sponsored ATP pro, they are probably pro stock frames and are customized in terms of layup, weight, balance, etc. Anyone know where Wilson makes their pro stock frames? Chicago maybe or is that done in the PRC now, too?

I doubt if the Pro Staff 5.1's Wheaton had are the off the shelf 5.1's that were sold to the masses so the published specs may not mean that much.

Just got an e-mail from Mr. Wheaton this morning. Very cool of him to give me his thoughts on the racquet. He stated they caught on more in Europe than US which is a reason for the info to be so hard to find.

His description of the racquet is: "The 5.1's will be slightly stiffer than your 6.1's. I really liked the 18 x 19 string pattern of the 5.1 and it's a stable frame."

He mentioned he used lead tape. They sound like great frames. I may hit with one to check out the feel before they get retired to the memorabilia collection.

The proof is in the hitting. Specs are not necessarily consistent across different racket manufacturers (like tires among other products). Besides, it seems very likely these are pro stock frames so the published specs may not mean a whole lot.

Did you ever hit with this? Any thoughts?

Wilson pro staff 5.1 MP. 18 mains?
Found one in the trash in a hell of a state.
Cleaned it up & regripped it a few months back.
Hit with it last night, nice stiff racket.
After 10 minutes returning a friends serve broke 3 mains strings on a crushing forehand, very old, brittle, dry, original strings, I think.
Thinking restringing it in Forten Fibretech 16g & giving it a sweet black [W] vibro absorber.
