still a thing of beauty, if I didn't have two already I'd buy one.

You can't ever have too many. I'm up to five Ultra 2s, six if you count the one I retired because the braided graphite was showing. If you play with the racket, stock up now!

Yep, stock up, everyone---I got my 5 Prince Graphite Longbodies, thanks to TW, while I could.....

ok i just cant see the point with this... Who would like to buy 85sqin racq today and to play with it?

Their KPS88 already done bad... cant they learn something from that.

It's one of these times I wish that I'd taken a summer job the municipality had offered. I can afford it, but I need to pay some tickets and stuff... Please TW EU, put it on sale!

Just ordered one with full VS 17 at 50lbs. Super excited (even though the blx buttcap is a bummer). Anybody else notice the specs dont match was TW had before for the ps85?

Old specs:
strung weight = 12.6oz
balance = 8 points headlight
swingweight = 329
stiffness = 66

Anybody know Sampras' tension?
Heard it was 65, 74, 75 lbs...?

Also what string (exact name) and gauge if possible.

And also if anybody knows his string saver setup and grip size.

I am tempted to buy this racquet and than get it to Sampras' specs.

I agree for the most part, 95 is the smallest people usually go with. Having said that wilson puts out some idiotic racquets, blx coral reef, Wilson BLX Stratus Three, Wilson BLX Tidal Force XD so why not pro staff

Completely agree. 85s are just a waste of time in the modern game.

People should buy and hang it on the wall along with their Sampras, Budge and Perry pictures.

Great player though, Samp. One my tennis heroes when growing up but never in a million years would I want to play with a Pro Staff. It was hideously unforgiving then, and even more so now with the heaviness of shots that your opponents in this poly dominated era.

I think 18g VS at 75 lbs...

Who would like to play with this stick? Oh, I dunno, maybe people who appreciate history.

I can't believe this is true. Can we have some PS 85 afficianados weigh in here? Is this for real or is this some kind of cruel joke?

I also noticed in their specs it only says 80% graphite and 20% kevlar...it did not say "braided" graphite!! Better call TW to confirm if their composition has changed. Also the BLX buttcap is an insult for this classic racket so I'm going to order their regular black buttcap and install it in place of the one that came with this re-issue!:mad:

This is not for the weak player which I would assume includes you so give it a rest and let us strong players have our fun!:)

Go play with a woodie then, after you've driven to the courts in your Model T Ford, and when you've got back home, you can then watch Wimbledon on your black and white TV ;-)

the only thing the PS85 lacks is head size. It's nothing like a wooden racquet. You can still easily be competitive with it

I would be glad to buy one of these 'idiotic' racquets and beat you with it. :)

apparently quite a few good players here are still using this stick.

but I'd say for most people, this is a collection item... for me at least... already shanking balls with 90 sq in head... 85 would be a big no no.

actually just an hour ago I hit some against wall with a 80 sq in Head Graphite Edge - yup, it was only good for hitting against the wall.

Yes I do. The stiffness is now 62RA which is what my St. Vincent's are at if memory serves me.

I have to be honest that I have never played with this racket but I did bought it just for my own satisfaction although I played with Fed's BLX90 with good results. Here's what's interesting about this latest re-issue.

Under Specification:
Weight- 12.5
Stiffness 62
Swing weight 321
Balance 10 HL
Composition 80% graphite/20% kevlar

Under Review:
Weight 12.6
Stiffness 66
Swing weight 329
Balance 8
Composition 80% braided graphite/20% kevlar

I think the review and it's stats are from the old one years ago. I think they're reproducing them and the new stats in the left shows a "more forgiving" PS85. I certainly like the lower stiffness rating, swing weight and higher HL balance which means one can whip this racket a lot faster! Braided is unfortunately missing in the new stats so until I see the actual racket will I know for sure.

I ordered mine too! So the old china ver was stiffer? and more HH? interesting.

62 rating must be some feeling hitting with it.

Can't wait! I wasn't gonna buy a new racket this year but this one done it for me.

My guess is the new specs are the actual measurements taken from this batch, while the old specs were not updated to reflect slight spec changes from one version to another.

I haven't been active for the last month, and THIS happens? What on earth did I miss out on?

Anyways, well, it's nice that Wilson finally listened to the classic enthusiasts. So many of TTers here begged for a reissue. Great job!
But my question... what's the point? I mean, it's great bringing back a classic. And I'm sure that there's a lot of people that are going to be extremely happy with stocking up on some classic feeling racquets. But just like Nadal vs. Federer, the modern game has taken over. So sales wouldn't be that hot on the majority level. And with the classic remade, the "classic" wouldn't be as classic anymore. Unless we only care about the actual classic versions, these new ones may have no value at all in the long run. But then again, a good playing racquet is top priority.
Also, is it EXACTLY the same mold and formula as the older versions? I can't help but just wonder if Wilson tried to throw in a touch of BLX technology or something, in order to truly distinct the new and old models. But for that question, I would love to hear some feedback from you guys soon. And thanks ahead of time!

Could different measuring equipment also contribute to the differences between the specs?

Yes, I noticed that as well.

The new specs are:
strung weight = 12.5oz
balance = 10 points headlight
swingweight = 321
stiffness = 62

That's quite a bit different from the old specs. If these differences are true, this new one probably plays differently from the old one.

Frankly, I like the new specs better. It's actually closer to the specs of the PS 6.0 95 except for the headsize. :)

Stiffness RA 66 vs 62 is quite a big difference. I doubt it is the manufacturing variation. Perhaps it is the raw material Wilson uses now is a little different from the source they had a few years ago.

Just ordered one to see what I missed out in the 80s. (Yeah, might not feel the same, but still the spirit is there.) The blx butt cap is a little annoying.

I remember my tennis coach in the 80's had a bunch of these in his bag. He had massive spin on his serve and fh - strings lasted only 2-3 hours for him. I would not count it out just because it's not popular with today's top pro's and the perception of the "modern game" mentality.

I just wonder what the difference is in hitting. I dying to buy one but maybe be safer to wait for the reviews of the first buyers. I will decided tomorrow!

PS VS POG
go

POG OS or mid?

I used POG mid back in the days. Don't have experience with PS85, only hit with it once or twice. I remember PS85 felt more harsh than the POG mid but that might be because of my lack of skill in finding the sweet spot.
