Wilson Pro Staff 6.0 Midsize St. Vincent

I ran across an auction for a Wilson Pro Staff 6.0 Midsize St. Vincent. Currently it's going for $200.50. I'm wondering is this racquet worth it?

Yes and no.

The SV (and Chicago) Wilson Pro Staff midsize is now a collector's item more than it is a racket to be used. The pro connection to players like Connors, Evert, Edberg, Courier, and Sampras has bolstered the demand.

Also, to those that used the frame in the past, there is the nostalgia factor.

But......the SV PS85 is a tricky one because it has a very distinctive feel that many people who don't care about the pro connection or didn't grow up with the frame have come to appreciate.

If you think the $200 is a high price, a "new" one - never used, never strung (or intact original stringing), case with hang tags - will go for over $1000.

These days it's very rare to pick up a Wilson Pro Staff Midsize (of any make) in good condition for cheap.

People that put them up on e-bay know what they have 99% of the time.

If you have never used the PS85 before, then very likely the racket is not for you. It will worth more than 200$ but it has no meaning for you to go chase after it.

You can find some St. Vincents fore much cheaper than that. I got one off the bay for $140 but the person selling didn't know what they were selling. I worked out an off **** deal right away before bidding started. I guess patience pays off.

I was not planning on buying it, just surprised how high it would go. It's not even in mint condition. Has a code of "JWQ" on the butt.

FWIW, fellow TTW posters drakulie and gsquicksilver have gotten their Wilson Pro Staff midsizes (Chicago or SV) for $1 at garage sales etc.

Mind you, they live in tennis hotbeds (Florida and SoCal) where a lot of people play tennis and there are a lot of left over frames from the 80's....

I haven't fared as well, but a couple of my PS85s I got one for $5 and the other for $10 (recently). Both are in great playable shape.

Yes, $200 is high, but $1,000 is ridiculous!
