Wilson Pro Staff V14.0

I've been using a customized PS97 since it's introduction in 2014. Bought a few V14s a couple of years ago. Decided to switch to the EP a couple of months ago for more spin production and a pusher feel. While I do like the racket for these reasons. My long time practice partner keeps telling me that my groundstrokes are heavier and getting through the court much faster when I hit with the V14. He says that the EP is producing a slightly heavier serve. But the PS97 is producing a much more damaging ball on groundstrokes. I can't believe I'm going to say this..... but Im actually considering switching back to the PS just days before my usta season starts.

I’ve been getting a similar response, except I switch to a pure drive. My shots with the PS are apparently ‘deceiving heavy’ and kick up more on ground strokes. While the PD the shots are ‘fast’, other than on serves and put away winners, the PS produces a tougher ball to get back.

Basically the same thing my hitting partner is telling me.

I also keep returning to my V14 Pro Staff. I have flirted with the 2023 Gravity Pro and 2025 98 Ezone as well. I love playing with my V7 blades as well to take it easy on my arm but the V14 calls to me and won’t leave me alone.
I know the feeling. My V14's keep asking me why I switched.

I can confirm this. I spoke to a Wilson Rep through email about this a couple of weeks ago. Just be ready to drop like $320 for a racket.
They have the Ultras coming out so would have to be pretty late in the year to launch them. Surprised they arent waiting for AO but its definitely about time for the new one

Anyone increase the weight of their v14 315's to around 350-360g strung? Mine currently with RF Leather Grip + Wilson Pro Overgrip & string is at ~335. Reason I'm asking is I bought a Six.One 95 v14 and it's currently at 360g strung and man I played some of the best tennis of my life. It felt amazing and was getting so much plough through and was able to play so aggressive with it. The only struggle I had was with serves, but that takes time. I don't really want to move backwards and switch to a smaller 95" head, so I figured I'd see if anyone had success increasing the weight of their 97 v14's.

Add a few grams to the tip and silicone in the handle to get it up to RF specs. I tried this last year. And like you said... tons of plow and stability. Hit a huge ball. But I found it too heavy for me to generate lots of racket head speed on serve without destroying the front of my shoulder. So I went back down to 340 strung w/og. And that's perfect for me. But give it a shot.

Thank you sir! Yeah, 12 o'clock was definitely where I was looking at adding some weight and put some in the handle to balance it out like you said. I'll probably bump it up little by little, try 345g first, then 350g, 355g, and then 360g to see what I feel is best. Unfortunately I've never been too keen on light racquets (anything under 330g strung) as I was never then whippy/high racquet head speed player, never fit my playstyle.

How soft do the Six.One 95 v14 feel and have you owned a previous version of the Six.One 95? And anyone willing to compare Pro Staff 97 V14 and the Six.One 95 V14 as well?

I purchased mine off someone on here and it has restring zero 17 on it and honestly I haven't played enough to tell you how soft it feels but I def get more feel/feedback than I do the 97 v14. Also, I have not owned a six.one 95 before, this is my first.

Using both, I currently prefer the six.one 95 v14 over the 97 v14 due to the heavier weight but still HL balance, super solid/stable, and man is it surgical. Haven't measured my SW's but according to TW it's crazy to see the Six.One have the same SW as the 97 v14 while being almost 20g heavier.

So i'm in Tokyo at the moment and not finding much time on court or the gym lately as it's super competitive to get a court and don't really allow tourists to join gyms so i'm not at my best form but happened to get lucky and played 2 days straight. I ended up with some forearm pain afterwards.

I'm quite sure it's from lack of conditioning and lack of practise with technique failing a bit.

I just cut my strings (Alu Power 22.5kg/ Nutural Gut 24kg ) out and about to restring as it had been 4 months and I know Alu goes dead really fast. It was feeling a bit boardy and wondering its harsh on the arm?

Yes I know I should string more often, but I can't bring myself to cut out the gut so often so maybe looking for a more durable longer lasting poly? Any recommendations for a Alu Power alternative to hybrid with VS Gut?

Otherwise i'm really happy with mine. I just need to be optimal fitness and technique wise. Everyone says, the ball comes at them quite heavy and hard to deal with.

Can anyone compare the v14 PS with the CV one? I currently play own two CV prostaffs. Both are on spec, but one of them is a bit head heavy. I like these rackets, they're good for my ohbh and I find I play good attacking tennis with them (both from the baseline and at the net). The only downside is that I find the stringbed a bit erratic. Sometimes the ball lands short and others it goes to the back fence with the exact same type of shot. Do they still have that kind of issue? Do you think it is worth getting a new v14 instead of my current model?

I'm using the PS97v14 - i've also used the V13, but not countervail, but the v14 is brassy and raw, but also smooth (if you use gut hybrid). Erratic? Not if i'm in position. The most predictable stringbed i've ever experienced involved a hybrid of kevlar + something else, whether nat gut, poly, or zyex. Honestly, the stringbed did exactly what I asked of it every single time with no surprises, so you could look into that I suppose. If you want to avoid arm problems, then hybrid it with zyex. Otherwise, analyse your technique for the erratic shots? Not sure you can blame the equipment THAT much, but kevlar will stop you hitting out that's for sure.

Maybe part of the effect is due to the fact that I play with full beds of syn gut. I noticed my elbow can't stand polys since I was young, so I've kept playing with syn gut and have never had any arm problem ever since. And of course, my technique is what it is. My footwork can be decent, but I must be completely focused on it and when I start getting tired, I start hitting a bit late and missing more shots than I use to when I start matches.

Look, none of us are getting any younger and while I love the Pro Staff 97 when i'm my best and fittest, I'm also looking into that 'next racket' which is going to give me a bit more help without taking away the essence of the kind of rackets and tennis I like to play. After a lot of research and advice, the short list is Nordic Dots Model 99, Blade 100 v9, Head Extreme Tour 98, RF01, Pro Staff X (maybe), and maybe the Speed MP 2024 or Pro. However, before delving into that , look into a gut/poly hybrid, or Kevlar/Monogut ZX hybrid. if you don't like that, then maybe it's time to move towards a slightly friendlier racket that suits your level on your baseline level. Not when we're at our best! ps. I have this Head Radical 690 Bumblebee which is an unusual racket to bring up, but everyone around me says I play my best and most consistent tennis. It might not be a laser focused weapon like the PS, but I get everything back and even trouble my opponents with it. Let me know what you think.

The string layout changed on the PS v13 and v14 to be tighter in the middle, which I heard got rid of the issue that the earlier pro staff 97s had with being a little erratic. I have only played with the v12, though, so I do not know for sure.

Hi everyone, any thoughts on the Pro Staff X? I saw some people complaining about the clubbiness of the frame, mainly due to the high sw. However I can get my hands on 320sw model, so I'm just theorizing how this one might play. Don't really want to end up adding lead

Yeah I demoed it a month or two ago. Didn’t love it; the clubbiness is real, and although it does share the feel of the PS97 - which is great - it just lacks all the pizzazz and nuance of that frame. Sure it’s a touch more forgiving but you have to give up way too much to get that. The 97 is far superior.

If you don’t hit off-centre with the 97, then that’s the better frame for sure. But, if you’re like me and need more forgiveness, the X is a good option. I have one with SW of 322 and one with 330. Much prefer the 322 frame. 330 did feel too slow through the air.

I had to, and then I also quickly washed my hands afterwards. I'm ok if people call me a racquet/Pro Staff snob, but to me, a proper Pro Staff has to have mass behind it. And my criticism of the "regular" Pro Staff 97 extends all the way back to the 97's first iteration. It's too light and not headlight enough. So it's not unique to this v14 Poop Staff.

What is unique in my criticism for this generation is its choice of design, which shares ZERO heritage with either Wilson as a brand, or the Pro Staff line itself.

I also don't give a crap about marketing BS either. They can call it whatever they want, "paradigm bending" "hella bendy" "bent staff". No, it's a Pro Staff with a new paint. That's about it.
Lol you're funny. So mad. So angsty. Maybe you'll like the v15.

FINALLY...

Have the 97 demo
Played 3.5hrs today
Singles and doubles.
Prior person strung with their setup, ALU mains, Multi CX crosses at 54lbs. Actually a nice setup although too tight. The launch angle is quite flat and sweetspot fairly small.
339g strung with OG, so likely a few grams overspec.
I am really enjoying the racquet so far. I demoed, but not extensively, the V13 with all poly at a lower tension and I wasn't crazy about it. It was PT Rev, so I have some suspicious the string was affecting feel.
But the V14 is really nice so far, I have no real complaints except the 54lb tension.
It's got some nice weight to it and I don't find it to be muted or stiff. It's got that plush-firmness where it flexes but isn't a low-powered noodle. Reminds me a bit of the TF40s but maybe better feedback and maneuverability
I dig it so far, definitely what I am looking for in a midplus Pro Staff
Will restring at some point and go lower in tension
It needs to be at least 348grams strung to unleash its full potential. It needs weight.

Yep, my 97 v14 is 349grams strung. Swings like a beast, hits a devastating ball if you're on time obviously. I keep coming back to it. The way I got there was 6 grams of lead under the bumper (as mine was 3 grams under spec at 312-313g unstrung).
I recently added another 2g at 12 on the frame. Leather grip, 1.4 grams of lead under the finishing tape, overgrip and dampener. I love it. I made this change recently and it plays better heavier, than where I had it before at 342 grams.

Clowns are digging up what I wrote way back when? Maybe y'all are the real sad people around here... hahaha

Yeah I don't need no lightweight Pro Staffs, but I know people like you two do, that's ok. Some people likes to wear the name only.

Guys. I started tennis 5 years ago and my first real stick was PS97 V11. Big RF fan, natural OHBH, attacking player. Love and easily learnt to serve big with the Pro Staff. Then my sticks got old, and had tennis elbow for a good two years (it went away when I didn't play but came back quickly especially because of weightlifting on the side and playing poorly and tight during tournaments).

I got on a crazy racket journey these last 3 years (bought 14 rackets, yes 14, to name them: Blade V8, Speed mp 2022, Blade V9, Boom Pro 2022, Tfight 305s, PA98 and back to Speed mp 2022). I've played my best tennis with the Speed but still struggle to get back to my okayish ranking of 3/4 years ago when I played with PS97. I like the Speed and its all around reliability. But as an attacking player I miss the Pro Staff for the bomb serving, the cuts I can take on both wings, taking the ball on the rise and drop shots. The OHBH doesn't feel nice on the Speed MP. I'm tempted to stick by it and custom it, adding weight in the grip would be good for OHBH I suppose.

I haven't tried the V14. I loved the V11 which was a bit too stiff. Hated the V13. Would I like the V14? Ofc I need to try it myself but I trust my fellow PS users. Also, I liked my Booms and Speeds with Lynx Tour 17 so I bought a reel of grey LT. Could it go well with the 97 V14?

Thank you so much guys

I liked the v11, disliked the v13, and I like the v14 more than the v11. I think you’ll love the v14.

I've been hitting with a V14 PS97 Noir. This thing is a pleasure. Not only is it beautiful and cool looking, but the reward you get for hitting correctly is so good. Yes it's not the easiest racket to play with (somewhat smaller sweet spot, higher swing weight), but the head light balance makes it still easy to swing. The feedback is inspiring when you hit the sweet spot, the sound is empowering, and the heavy ball it gives your opponent is just a lot of fun.

I haven't played with other versions of the PS (except the ProStaff Classic back in the late 90's (??)). From what I understand, the V14 is more muted than recent versions, but I would say that this current version is still one of the best feeling rackets out there for those that can wield it.

In my on-going racket journey (mainly using a highly customized Blade V8 16M), I'm still looking for a companion racket that gives more power and spin than the Blade. The PSv14 is definitely giving more of that. It's not exactly what I'm looking for - probably something just easier to use - But I am for sure keeping this Noir in my bag. It's too rewarding to give up.

Isospeed Professional classic aka Mojo setup.

Wonderfull cross. Gut ist long lasting. The wear is mainly on the crosses. Almost good until breakage (of the crosses). It doesn't go dead since it is not polyester, it is polyolefine.

Beware that Isospeed Professional comes also as "nonclassic" but it's a totally different string. The magic one is the one labeled classic.

sw is lower than the sw in the v14 97.
