Wilson prostaff classic 6.1 95 vs 6.0 95...

I'm wondering why Wilson Prostaff Classic 6.1 95 became more popular than that of the Wilson Prostaff Classic 6.0 95 or am I wrong? Which came first after the more famous PSC 6.0 85?

thats a good question, i played with the 6.0 85 and then switched to the 6.1 classic for years, didnt even know about the 6.0 95 for years, i tried one and loved it. been using it ever since.. i add some weight to the head and handle.
but i wish they would have kept updating the frame like they did the 6.1

Flex Rating 67 Range: 0-100
Swing Weight 317 Range: 200-400
Maneuverability 75 A

Looking from the 6.0 95 stats, it's just a shy lighter (12.6 for 6.1), a bit more flex (72 for 6.1) and better swing weight so much more maneuverable than the 6.1! I just got so used to the 6.1's overall heft that I'm afraid I'll end up customizing it like what you did, adding weights. Or I'm afraid that I may like it and end up retiring my 6.1's. They're both discontinued as you know for a while and the only place I can think of to get one is from ----. And they don't come cheap used! :(

IIRC, the ps 6.0 85 and ps 6.0 110 came first followed by the psc 6.1 95. i believe the ps 6.0 95 came after the psc 6.1 95. but as i get older, i find my memory failing me more often... :)

Thanks for shedding some light on this- I just found out about the existance of the 6.0 95 and now you're saying there is a 6.0 110 version??? I would love to try all of them (6.0 85, 95 and 110) because there's just much history behind it.

They actually been updating it the latest being the Federer racket, Wilson BLX 6.1 tour 90 but..... with different materials. It's gotta be the good 'ol graphite and kevlar or nothing! Sad thing is I didn't even get to own a brand new one! :(

yes, there's a 110 version of the 6.0. don't come across many, but when they do, they're more affordable than the 85.

I liked the original 85 but hated the 95, two very different sticks, the 95 is a little unstable at certain places, the 6.1 is much more stable and ofcourse stiffer, from the 95 sq range the HPS 6.0 is still my favorite Wilson, a little less stiff then the 6.1.

i meant in the 95 head size, 90 is a bit too small for me.

What's the specs. on the HPS? Again, this racket was also retired by Wilson and was replaced/updated with diff. material if I'm not mistaken.

If you want a 6.0 95 for your collection, drop me a line. I'll post it officially in the next few days.

Very very interested Coachrick! I also found the review of the HPS 6.1 95 and lo and behold, it's the closest to the PSC 6.1 95 that it weaved out of carbon and kevlar- now that's the specs. I'm looking at. I want both on my collection- within my budget of course. Thanks chief.:)

There was a 125 version as well of the original. That thing was a butterfly net, with a unique pair of reinforcing semi-cross bars running from shaft to throat to reinforce the middle part of the frame.

Like Mad Dog, I remember the 6.1 Classic (which also came in 110, incidentally) coming first. It was the Widebody Revolution's version of the venerable 6.0. (I know 22mm frames are not now considered "wide", but it was not always so.) Though it was extremely successful, there were still lots of players murmuring, "You know, it isn't really a 95 sq" version of the 6.0..."

When the 6.0 95 emerged, at least a decade after the original, I assumed it was an attempt to sell some sticks to those murmurers. AFAIK, it did sell well (Coach Rick would know for sure), but the 6.1 Classic remained king of the Wilson players sticks.

I've read a few threads here about it, and a number of people have said the 6.0 95 lacked oomph in the upper head and therefore responded well to a little lead tape in the 10-12-2 area.

Nice to know all that history! And to think that Wilson will come up with a 125 boggles the mind when a 22mm at the time is considered wide like you said- whoever use it will probably look funny to other players!:)

You mean there was HPS 6.0 95 as well as HPS 6.1 95? Never heard of the HPS 6.0 95. I would like to know more about it.

Thanks

Yes both in the same paintjob apart from the W in yellow on the 6.0, the 6.1 had both the yellow and silver W on the hoop. Anyway the HPS 6.0 has the same mold as the orginal 6.0 and is an update version of the 6.0 with lots of stability. The HPS 6.0 was a European release.

I always preferred the 6.0 95 to the 6.1 but i can easily see how the 6.1 gets so much love from high level players. It's a very very solid hit. The 6.0 was a lot more headlight and despite it's relatively high stiffness rating, played a lot lot softer than spec.

With most Wilsons, I always found the throat/yoke area a little "wide" to hold in my free hand. Still, the 6.0 95 is one i regret not having in my collection.

It looked funny, but the 125 wasn't the only 125. Prince had really nice "Series 125" versions of the Graphite, Precision Graphite, and Magnesium Pro. And of course the Weed racquets. There were probably others, too; it was considered a good size for doubles, and the top-ranked amateur seniors wouldn't even lace up their shoes without one.

The Pro Staff 125 was way before the PS Classic 6.1 and way before there were any widebodies. It came out in the early 80's with the PS Mid and the PS 110 (I think Wilson used the term "Largehead", if not at the time then soon after) and was thin like they were. The PS Classic 6.1 was early 90's, and the thin-again "retro" PS 6.0 95 was more like mid-90's.

Thanks Let It Bounce for sharing all that history. I still can't believe how the Pro Staff lines (classic, tour, 6.0, 6.1 etc) evolved in such a manner that it developed almost a cult following! I mean, there's the St. Vincent 85 Sampras racket that still sells for an astronomical amount and it's used!!! I bought 3 used 6.1 95 (1 18x20 classic, 1 18x20 tour edition and 1 16x18 psc 6.1 si) just recently and couldn't be more happier because I may never see these rackets again. Bottom line for me is with all the tech. they put on the racket, it will only help the player depending on their own ability! Demanding as this racket maybe, it impoved my overall ability to anticipate and be on the right spot for that perfect shot. In other words, it challenged me to use it and it rewarded me with winning shots I've never seen! It challenged me to stay fit and really work hard on my fitness and focus. Long live the PSC!:)

for what it's worth, I tried many times, but I never liked the PS 6.1. Too stiff and jarring; weird string bed response. LIked the 6.0/95.

I agree 100% it's stiff as hell but that's where the whole mystic on this racket, how do you tame this beast and let it surrender to your will! Was it the graphite and kevlar ingredients? Play with your strings, you can't have a super rigid frame and string it at 62, right? It'll kill your arms and elbows. Hit it on it's sweet spot and get rewarded. I actually own 1 used Prince Precision equipe 95 which I used as a back up on my PSC when I only have one and they play almost similar and it's a beauty when hit right. I would really love to give the 6.0 95 a try if I can get one- last time I check ----, the ones I can afford looks like it's been through war and back, and it's used!

There's still plenty out there and start at ----, you just have to settle on the condition of the racket.

I've always loved the pro staff 6.0 95 original and have used them a fair bit over the years. I was delighted to score 3 of these frames brand new in k tour paint job, they were frames set aside for Alexandr Dolgopalov he's now using the 6.0 95 original with BLX paint job.

I'm loving these frames again !!!

hey tnsanydy you might wanna change your sig, wilson released PSC in 92, so I doubt that you have used it since 85:)

Thanks for the correction BigBang. That was a big typographical error on my part- I meant 95, not 85. I'll get it fixed right now. :)

tnsanydy, i have 2 6.0 95's in brand new condition, 4 3/8 grip if you're interested. email me at kidkreative AT yahoo DOT com.

Thanks for the offer but I know it'll be expensive because it's new. I'm looking at used one that's within my budget.

Here's a pic of my PS 95 Original with k factor PJ

Man, you lucky dog! May I ask how you got your hands on those paintjobs? I would love to get some PS 6.0 95's with either the K-Factor or BLX paintjobs.

That's messed up. I do love the K factor PJ than the original though but if they still makes them assuming that they still use the original 'BREW" graphite and kevlar, why not re-release them and have the customers makes the decision which one to buy?:-?

because that would have no new technology where is the exciting gimick to get people to upgrade?

I don't know what kind of deal you got going here but can I buy one from you?:-?

Will have to see how it plays before deciding to sell. But I can tell you where to find one or a few:)
mail me thru my profile if you are interested.

Thanks much for the email. It looks like it is an actual K-Factor version of the 6.0 95, as opposed to a paint job of a 90's frame. I look forward to hearing your opinion on how it plays.

You are welcome.
It does say K-factor six-one tour 95, but as others said it should be a 6.0 95. But lets see when I get to to hit with it:)

I mailed you 2 mins ago:)

I look forward to your review of the rackets. I hope they play like the K Factor series (or better yet the Hyper Pro Staff).

I have court time this thursday, hopefully I will get them by then.
Will post as soon as I have had the chance to hit a few hours with them.
