Wilson Prostaff RF97 twist weight

A lot of people feel like this change reflects in their own experiences. I can say it does in mine. The black racquet feels much more maneuverable than the red one. It's not as cumbersome to use and it doesn't wear me out like the last one did when I demoed it. I still prefer the PS90, but the lower TW on the black racquet is a welcome change.

I'd have to agree wholeheartedly here. Why did they lower the twist weigh? Who knows, but having hit with both, the newer update seems to be made much closer to my numbers. Agreed on the PS90 though, as when I took a week off and come back on Tuesday (2/14), I found myself having a tougher time concentrating with the RF97. I walked back over to my bag and pulled out my PS90, and easily got right back into the groove. Even my hitting partner was telling me how much better I was striking the ball.

Moral of the rambling story: if you like the numbers of the new update, as I do, play it. But also get yourself a PS90 as a backup or singles racket.

The 90 just seems easier to yield. My son plays with the ps97. He really wants the RF97. He is only 14 but he is 6'2". I just worry that it is too heavy.

He'll grow into it. Most everyone switches to a heavier racket and notices the weight immediately, but we all get used to it. You build up the strength over time and before you know it, you're wielding a heavier racket with the same rackethead speed as folks using a much lighter one, only your shots are heavier and deeper.

I used the PS85 @ 14.5 yrs old and I was just 5"9" then and a lean medium sized kid.

As for the TW of the RF97 '16 vs '14, I tried many sticks of the RF97 '16 and couldn't find one that matched my '14. I suspect they got feedback that it was a bit unwieldy for "lesser" beings and made it more "user" friendly to generate racquet head speed. I did try the '16 but the mods I did to my '14 which I liked, I couldn't replicate it without weighing 10g more. I ended up just stocking up on the '14s.

I can't remember the '14 without mods, so I'll compare the '16 unmodded to the my personal '14. The '16 I hit with is a bit more polarized stock, which I liked (I modded the '14 to be more polarized). The swing and twist weights difference just made timing my swing and changes in feel (stability) far enough that I decided to stay with the '14, so I don't have to adjust again.

Does anyone know whether the twist weight list which is calculated by tennis warehouse is on strung or unstrung rackets?

Tennis warehouse measures everything on strung racquets. Which is good and bad. Good because you will be playing with a strung racquet. Bad because the weight of the string gives variability, and they don't mention which string they used.

They use a consistent 16 gauge from what I was told.

Thank you guys for your input and it's good to know that tennis warehouse uses strung rackets 16 gauge. After I had posted the question I dug a little further and found that adding 4 gm lead tape at 3 & 9 increases the twist weight by only 0.625 .. if this is true, then measuring a strung racket versus unstrung should have no impact on the TW measurement.
