Wilson Shift 99 wrist

Hello, I’ve recently been playing with the Wilson shift 99 and I’ve been having hand/wrist pain. I’ve been playing tennis for over a decade and this is the FIRST racquet that’s ever hurt my hand/wrist. I currently play with the Wilson blade 18x20 v8. I’ve played with many many racquets. Light and heavy racquets and I’ve never had issues before. And it’s not because I’m playing tennis too much. I’ve taken breaks to let my wrist pain and heal then I go back to the shift and the pain starts up again. I’ve tried different strings and dampeners but still have hand/wrist problems. I currently use luxillon 4g. I love using the shift and I don’t want to part with it. Im willing to try anything to play with it. Thanks!

I think you've gotta just try something else for a bit, see if the pain goes away.
Then go back to the Shift (I love mine too) and see if it returns.

I've read all the Shift feedback pretty closely since I dearly love mine, and haven't heard any wrist complaints. But we all have different swings & bodies.

So I think you just need to take a break from it, see if you heal, then go back to it and see if it reappears.

Have you been playing against the same players as usual recently or have you been playing heavier hitters? Possible that the extra weight and speed of the incoming ball is causing you to overcompensate with the wrist, which the shift may not be balanced for. Just a guess though. I also would consider an alternative to 4G as it's one of the most arm-pain inducing strings amongst most of my clients.

A Wilson lover here..I use to love their huge butt on their grip..
But I realized that the Big Butt was giving me wrist pain as it tilts my wrist to much..
So now I have to wrap my overgrip in a way to reduce the flare.

I personally liked the shift too, but steered away cause I could tell I was going to run into discomfort pretty fast if I kept using it. I have a pretty sensitive arm though. Blade is butter compared to the shift.

I thought that I was the only one. I had similar issues with the Blade V7. I switched to the V8 and it went away. However, I really never played well with the V8. Then I tried the Shift prototype and switched immediately.

After playing with the Shift for 9 months, I started to get similar pain in the wrist that I was having with the V7. I suspect that it has to do with the way the racquet flexes. I had never had wrist pain in my life until the V7 and Shift.

I'm having trouble making the adjustment to my new big butt blade v9. Could you show me a picture of how you wrap it? I used to hold my racket with my pinky wrapped around the butt but that's making my wrist and forearms quite sore. Having a bit more comfort by having the pinky rest at the top of the protrusion, but finding a bit less spin when I hold it this way

Shift responds a bit similarly to the clash. Needs a soft poly.

I had to drop a grip a size on some rackets since wilson changed their grip after the v7's

I can concur. I just used 4G on my shift pro and about ruined my arm. I’m not sensitive to stiff layups, but that is a combo that I’m not trying again. I’d recommend trying a new string, maybe gripping different to reduce the flair.

Been testing a shift 300 for a week now. Strung with topspin cyber blue 1.20 but broke within 4 hours and now lynx tour. Both feel plenty comfortable to me and I had serios TE last year. Added 6 grams in the butt cap and 1g each at 2 and 10.

Hii!
I used it 3 times and I feel a lot of vibration in my hand left hand when I hit a backhand (2 handed backhand).
I starting feeling my left hand weird, it is not pain yet.
I was using blade 98, but I had to find a new one cuz blade made my shoulder and back hurt.
With shift 99, no shoulder or back issues, only my left hand! I am using same grip size than blade. Stings:Head Hawk touch (45 lb)

Head hawk touch 1.25 gray is pretty stiff, red 1.25 is very stiff. The 1.20 gray is medium stiff and good to play with.

What racquets have you been using before? You mention weight (“light and heavy”) but not stiffness. The Shift is a pretty stiff racquet (68 RA) so if you’re coming from a more flexible stick AND using a stiff string you might experience joint issues.

Also worth checking your technique.

I used ultra 100 (300g & 70ra) and then extreme mp (300g & 63).
Prostaff 97 (315g 66ra) and blade 98(305g & 62ra) and now back to 300g.
The weird thing that I feel the vibration only in my left hand, maybe it is cuz it is neared to the throat of the racket.
I will also check my technique just in case.
What stings and tension do you suggest me?

Strange stuff, everyone is different. Im coming from serious TE last year. Feels firm but not uncomfortable with lynx tour 1.20 at 48lbs. Played 5 days in a row last week. Blade 100 v9 was giving me soreness on the forearm. Blade 100 v8 is very soft but not enough power.
