Wilson Shift V2?

With the official v1 non-Labs-prototype only being released last July, it's highly doubtful v2 would be released any sooner than next summer. The current markdowns are not just on the Shift but also other silos, which to me would indicate more of an effort to move stagnant mid-year inventory than anything else.

As for the v2, though, I hope Wilson can improve the layup to better blend the two flex profiles around the cross-over point, whose gradient in the v1 is too narrow, leading to too much "all-this-way' or "all-that-way" response on all but the most purely flat or swipey stroke paths. For anything in the middle — ie. most strokes, that are some mix of back-to-front and side-to-side motion — the flex you get out of the frame is often a bit unpredictable, leading to the randomness of launch and control problems that quite a few noticed. If Wilson can get a handle on that, then they may have true fire in their hands in the v2. We'll see!

Going by what is due to be updated... no. Clash and Ultra will likely be updated in 2025.
Correct- likely Clash first (from Feb.2022) then Ultra (From Feb/March 2023)
Shift was a dual release - first with limited “Labs” version then with V1. Likely 1.5-2 years away.

Tennis brands frequently renew their ranges, with an "average" periodicity of two years. Given the Shift is a brand new racquet (I don't count labs), I could see them pushing this forward, if only by a few months, especially with 2024 pro season winding down.

Time will tell.

Everything I’ve heard and read is the shift is selling well. I think the clash v2 and Ultra are bigger concerns- especially Clash v2 was not as popular as v1.

I love mine (and own 3) but I've only seen one other playing using the shift across my club and the USTA and Ultimate leagues I play in.

I see way more Clash's in the wild.

I Hope it does well though.

I've been a huge fan of the Shift Pro, though admittedly I don't see many around where I live. I don't actually know if I agree with your assessment if we're talking Shift Pro @Trip , though it may be right for the regular shift. I think the 18x20 makes the Pro very predictable, but you do encounter unpredictability when you don't commit to the shot. The flex is such that you have to really trust it'll give you the spin, and a lot of my friends say while they were surprised how much they like it, it's off-putting.

I'd love to see the 18x20 go down to the regular shift so it can be more of a platform racket, or at least maybe shave 5g off the pro so you can add it back where it suits you best. I think they'd also get more people to try it with a slightly lower stiffness rating, but I'm pretty happy with where it's at so I'm a bit of a mixed opinion on that.

I also acknowledge that an 18x20 pattern on the regular shift would proabably kill sales to the target market for the frame, so that sucks. I'm just a sucker for a 100 18x20 frame

A racket that is all one color can get boring to look at. Not to say some won’t like it but the darker limited edition Shifts all looked very good… so I’d say that’s a successful proof of concept color wise

I have the US Open Shift 99 and IMO it’s a very nice looking racquet. Not Gravity beautiful but better looking than the new Ezone or PD (I also have).

Gotcha. To each his own.

Personally I love that it's just a solid white(ish). Very classic.

Though color is pretty much the last thing I consider when choosing a racquet.

I like the pearlescent white as well.
More unique than the TF flat white racquets.
And depending on the string color it can really pop.
Also agree it isn't my first consideration.

Yeah, and the actual racquet seems to be that color.

My Clash's were nicked-to-heck playing on clay all the time. Whereas my Shift's still look good. if you look closely you can see dings, but it seems to be the same color below the dings.

-wilson needed to change the color scheme! they were getting TOO dark!
-color does sell/move a racquet!
-specially when you have so many other brands and/or types sitting on a shop wall next to each other..
-people first see COLOR, then they inspect closer for specs and/or details

you’re right. they were getting too dark. and then they went a released the new ugly as sin clash…

Most spin racquets have an aerodynamic beam in the head and neck. The Shift has a slightly wide straight beam that does not say "spin" to potential buyers.

Shift 99 is pretty whippy and the vertical bending definitely adds spin. I quite like this frame and use it from time to time but occasionally it gives me bit of elbow and shoulder pain as it's not overly comfortable on flat shots. What world do we live in when I actually switch to a PD when my arm is hurting lol. This is one area I hope they address with V2.

Pretty sure Wilson was doing some marketing and photo shoots for the shift v2 a couple days ago at Indian Wells. They posted some stories on instagram with a racquet I didnt recognize and color looked somewhat “grey” even Sabalenka posted a post on instagram and she was hitting with it on the last photo of the post. DeMinaur was also hitting with it.

Interesting. It looks like she is hitting a Wilson Profile in that picture oddly enough.
