I am currently using wilson ps 85 (code GCS on the butt cap). i have a chance to trade one of my spare 85's with a wilson st. vincent ultra 2 pro staff of the same head size (85). However, i never played with one of those.

Can anyone pls provide inputs as to how it compares to the PS 85, which i really love ? esp. how does the ultra 2 compare with the ps 85 in swing weight, feel, stiffness, control and power ?

thanks a lot !!

I just pulled my old PS and Ultra 2 from the early 1980s off the rack and they have considerable differences. The Ultra 2 I have is an M (medium) weight however and it's a beast; thicker beam, slightly smaller head than the PS. Haven't played these since then so that's all I can offer...I remember the Ultra being great off the ground, not so nimble at net, where the PS dominated...

The Ultra 2's are much stiffer, good control but I wouldn't trade unless it is more for a collection than playing as a back up frame.

pbody, thx.

but how's it on the arm ? and how's the power ? i can handle the ps fine though i get the occasional sore shoulder that goes away after a couple of days rest (usually when my timing is off on the serve).

It all depends on what level you are.
I played the Ultra 2 (St. Vincent) for a few years. I had power w/serves and groundtsrokes, but volleying was tough. Also, hitting forehands on the run was hard. It is a very, very stiff and solid racquet. Now, my old tennis buddy was a good college level player (best finish in high school was QF in the State Tourney). He could wield that racquet like no one else. His kick or topspin serve was outrageous. He hit with spin and velocity. He was awesome with the racquet. Again, depends on what level you are.
