Wilson tennis is stuck in the past.. Adjust or keep losing market share!

I think if nothing else, this thread shows that a lot of people like and would like to use Wilson racquets as a brand, but really want something that matches what their opposition has on the market. The PA and PD are hugely popular for sure, but seems that everyone also want someone out there to make a viable alternative.

#7 - about 3/4 of the guys I play with/against in doubles (all over 65, like me) use the Clash, and they all say it is to save their arms. None of the younger guys I play singles against use the Clash, they mostly use Babolat PAs. I use Princes with an RA of 56 for the same reason the other old guys use the Clash, but if I had to buy new sticks I'd be looking at the Clash line in addition to other low RA racquets.
The Clash is surprisingly good at the net- Absolutely agree that it's better for doubles. In singles, the stringbed gets a bit erratic, especially during long rallies where balls are taken on the run. The Clash is also pretty decent on serve, but I don't think that it's aerodynamic enough to really get pace behind the ball like an Ezone. A Clash with an aero throat could be near perfect for doubles play. Better maneuverability and serving. Would recommend that over a PD for most sub 3.5/4.0 doubles players any day of the week.

Hard to deny Wilson still has massive market share overall but can see where danbrenner is coming from. The trend right now seems to be power and everyone looks to PD/PA/Ezone in the 100s and PA/Ezone in 98. If you want a Wilson, where do you look for this?

I remember the episode of Intuitive Tennis where Nick was testing the Ultra range and how it made no sense for him to have the Ultra Pro in there with the Ultra 100. The Pro Labs range really muddy the waters imo.

Reading through the thread got me looking at Wilson's lineup and I had no idea they made a 6.1 100in2 16x19.

it came to me. I have found the name for the new Wilson Silo

“Power Staff”.
Pro Staff XXL. Some 105-110 frame, a bit stiffer. Would fit into the line. The original braided Pro Staff was sold in 85, 95 aaaand 125. Thus, it would be still fully in the tradition.

What do you guys think. Of the name for the new silo ?

“Power Staff”

It’s perfect. It fits in with their DNA of old but yet gives them a fork for a new DNA going forward.

The PS X and the Blade 100 v9 (with leather grip), both played with overgrips are IMO by far the 2 best rackets for intermediate rec players. Anyone 4.0 and above should give them a demo! I’m glad I have these options amongst the sea of dampened, soft, muted modern frames from Yonex or Head.
If you liked these 2 models, you should try the CX 400 Tour!

Power staff 98. Power Staff 100.
It’s literally perfect

Black gloss PJ with silver striping going around the whole frame.
That's quite literally what Furi has created with the Arma Pro 98 and the Arma Pro v2, minus the gloss (but still black) and silver striping (subtle yellow/orange/red hints).

Well, that just shows that they have good taste. But will do it differently here will make the paint job kind of similar to the V4 blade, but with more of a custom pinstripe that goes around the whole edge of the frame like a pro stuff, but in silver. And what name is better than PowerStaff There is none this idea of a power line done the way I said with this name is going to be unstoppable

the Wilson "PowerStaff". the first respected silo of power sticks from this acclaimed company. and finally well be out of that one word name game, that often ends up in embarrassment. too childish. And with the staff in the second part of the name, we are keeping that sacred heritage at the same time. what a win win here.
Wilsonnnnn. are you paying attention here. im literally fixing your problem here ..

Better than anything they’ve cooked up lately. This was the natural silo name for the RF01, which basically represents this train of thought. If they didn’t want to make it so tied to his likeness they should have done something like this

Power Staff Pro sounds great

why complicate it with the pro at the end. PowerStaff is literally divine. from the heavens. or you meant it as a specific model reference. like PowerStaff 100 (Pro or Tour). ?

This reminds me of a conversation I had with one of my players a few years ago. You can't turn a Pro Staff into something it isn't. That line is what it is and its foundational elements aren't going to change. You can't make a PS swing like something else. It's not what that frame is.

Wilson has both the Blade and Ultra lines that are covering the aspects of the modern game. I get if you don't like either of those. I hate the standard lines of both silos and think the BP and UP are the only ones worth hitting. But that doesn't mean those lines don't meet the needs of "modern" players. Hell, I'm a relatively modern player and I'm still maining the BP with gut/poly.

It is an interesting thing to muse about though. I was just thinking the other day what if Wilson made the BP layup but with PWS and a 97 head size. What exactly would that be or feel like?
That is the same thing for the Pro Kennex Kinetic tech, nothing feels like the Pro Kennex tennis racquets with Kinetic tech. Similar for the Prince Twist power or the models with the big O ports the strings go into on those models. The other that would be like this is using a sweet spot trainer like from Saber or Tolson as your main racquet, only a few are similar like from that Chinese brand or from the other manufactures of sweet spot trainers like the one Yonnex makes.

You look to the classic Wilson Pro staff models as this is about as best as the brand has to offer for this power. Or you look to the other model from the Hammer lineup that is the main current model for this the Hyper Hammer 5.3 and use that model becuse of how wide the frame is and fact the model is not head heavy like most of the other Hammer frames made in limited numbers that are still being made.
