Wilson Ultra; Is there a modern day version?

Just picked up a Wilson Ultra of Craigslist for $20 just to try it. I couldn't believe how well I liked it. I have a BLX Six.One 95 in both patterns and the Ultra felt more comfortable and allowed me to pull off better shots than the Six One's. I'm figuring it's the dual beam and more flexible design. Maybe the PWS feature is helping me out too.

I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a modern day racquet with similar design characteristics with perhaps upgraded materials? I tried doing a search on tapered beam on Tennis Warehouse but it didn't show any results. I know there are a few tapered beam racquets out there.

On the other side, maybe I should just keep it. I've heard some talk that older racquets can lose their pop. I don't know if there's any truth to that. Thanks for your feedback.

I don't know anyone making a racket that tapers thinner from the handle to the head currently. Typically, racket makers go the opposite direction. Though, with proper use of composites, the external shape is much less of a factor in the overall performance characteristics than it used to be - I'd look for something with tapering flexibility from the handle to the tip of the head rather than the physical shape. Not sure what would be available, something like an old Volkl C10 Comp, maybe? Or the Fischer Vacuum Twin Tech Pro? (Though, again, not current...)

Someone recommended a Vantage racquet. I see here they have tapered beams along with some of the Donnay's. I tried calling Vantage today a couple of times to get a recommendation but no answer both times I called.

Before i read this one i was going to say vantage. THeir 90 inch frames are nice, foam filled solid feeling which is closer to old style graphite frames than many.Worth a demo i would say, they are avaliable in 63 and 70 ra but you should be able to match in most other specs you like.

Ultra Graphite. I just got it restrung this weekend with a hybrid combo using Pacific PolyPro Soft and Technifibre Multi-Feel, strung at 54# all the way around. It had synthetic gut in it before and am thinking full synthetic gut may be the way to go with this racquet.

Pretty soft feel. Unsure of any current racquet like that. Believe Fischer made a racquet with a tapered beam.

Forgot to mention, I had the racquet spec'd on the Babolat machine at my local tennis shop. Weighs about 12.1 strung with leather grip. Swing weight came in at 335. The flex came in at 62 unstrung and 58 strung, so it's a pretty flexy racquet. This racquet is all about using the mass to generate power, but what I liked most about it is the control and touch. I guess that's part of having a more flexible racquet.

Used the Ultra FPK and was pleased until playing someone with extreme topspin which was tough to handle. A bit weak in the upper hoop compared to a racquet like the iPrestige mp.

I bought the Ultra 2 last year on XBay last year. Heavy as hell compared to my PS85. The serve is unreal, lots of fun to hit with. It's so massive that off center ball has no effect on it. I have mine strung with synthetic gut in the high 50's.
