Wilson Ultra Tour!Help!

Hi!
I’ve been testing the Wilson Ultra Tour.
It’s a fantastic CONTROL racquet,for sure!
Great touch and feel!
It requires a bit more from our “legs” but when you hit on time, the effort rewards!
However, I come from an “ultra” confortable frame, the Angell TC100(too much power and no control!), and I found some wrist pain when testing Wilson...
Have anyone got issues/arm pain during testing new racquet for 3 hour training, even if it’s a low RA frame like Wilson UT???
I’m a little bit worried because I would love to make this change, but ... with no pain for next season!
Advices,please?
Thanks!

Yes! it's a great players frame..for me, I knew immediately it needed about ~30 grams of lead weight, 10pts HL, ~335 SW and you have an unbelievable weapon. The wrist pain you have could be actually coming from the lack of weight, try that setup and let me know your thoughts [emoji4]

Low RA + Low weight = It puts the lead on!

The transition to the Wilson Ultra Tour from a 16 x20 is tricky since the tight pattern is so different. Dropping the tension and/or a powerful string and time is required.
Wilson needs to release a UT in a 16 Mains version.
If you need more power than the UT, try the pure storm gt or pure control with some lead.

Also check out the string job.....so much influence on a racquets performance......stiff poly....you got problems....also too much tension in string bed?

I can imagine the biggest details that could have been hurting my arm is the string pattern, from 16x19 to 18x20, and, tension.
WUT is now with hybrids,22/23, Solinco TB 1,15 mains and Wilson Sensation on crosses.
Wich kind of CUSTOMIZATION do you suggest?
Im not a big fan of that because when you have 3 frames it’s very difficult to match them all...
I must have a fast swing and very HL because of my Tennis Elbow history...
If pain persists, K7 will probably be my next choice for 2019 because of the string pattern and same 305 weight.

Happened twice for me - once with cv blade 18x20 - damaged shoulder on second service game (it was soooo head heavy !) and then several weeks later the Pure Strike VS - so little power and plough I had to swing so hard I almost dislocated my shoulder ! After a set I switched back the other racket I was trying out and everything went back to normal! Also I’ve tried various stiff racquets over the years that you can tell pretty quickly will cause elbow pain. I also notice that trying an unfamiliar grip shape can result in some aches in the hand afterwards but they seem to go away soon as my hand adjusts.

A friend of mine let me try his the other day. I found it to be way too light, and lacking stability. It would have definitely given me arm issues in stock form. However, like with a lot of other racquets, lead tape could probably do wonders for it.

TB is stiff.

I really liked the feel and comfort of natural gut (KLIP Legend 17) mains with a soft poly cross in Ultra Tour at 50/48lbs (23/22). Too bad lively main is not the best fit for this racket.

As far as adding weight:

1. Add a few grams at 3+9, a few grams on V Throat - this will give you more comfort.
2. If feels too light in the handle add a few grams there. You can try rubber bands on top of the grip first to figure out where and how much you like the weight.
3. For more power/depth and momentum carry add one gram at a time at 12.

It’s a platform stick. Lead absolutely required and you are correct. With a little lead, this is a great stick. One of the best.

The thing is:

-Wich the best specs setup in order to keep the low swingweight and stock balance?
Can you please suggest weights?

I love the stock balance!
It swings great!
Perhaps just a little grams on the handle could make the difference?

I’ve never played well with more than 335grs with strings, overgrip and dampener

I’m far away from being a “pro” when we talk about customization, eheheh.

The last one I tried to setup was my Blade 104 but I never achieved my 2 frames matched! One was always a little more balanced than the other! Not good.

I have mine setup with 2g of lead at 12 o’clock. 1.5g each from 9-11 o’clock and 1-3 o’clock. Installed a leather grip. Popped the trapdoor and shoved as much poster putty as it would hold. On the inside of the trapdoor, I added a little lead tape. Added an overgrip. Static weight is 11.8 oz. balance is about 6 pt headlight.

It’s seems a good balance,but I believe a more HL is required for me.10points a least

Add more lead under the grip then. I actually had it more HL before but wanted to add more penetration so I made it less HL to reduce the whippiness. I really like the change so far.

Well if you change one UT frame exactly like your other UT they will be no more different from each other than before you modified them.

Try the weight, worst that could happen is you won't like it and will simply take it off. Theory is good, but nothing will beat simply experiencing it.

Of course!
I’ve just added 2grs on 1” and 11”(1 gr on each side) and 4 grs on the handle(inside buttcap)
Tuesday I will test this modded UT.
6grs+Babolat Vibrakill dampener(4/5 grs)+overgrip =334grs total weight.
About 8Pts HL.
Feel good but nothing like go on court and smash some little yelows:)!

Why 1 and 11? I thought you are trying to maximize comfort.

So,where do you suggest ?
3 and 9 o’clock, 2grs?
I add 4grs inside buttcap and it turned very head light indeed!I like this!
I add at 1 and 11 to compensate a little and not to overdue balance.

Ok!
Right now I have about 334 grs strung with this:

2 grs at 3 and 9 o’clock
2 grs on the throat, very near from top of handle
4 grs inside buttcup
Overgrip
Dampener

Let’s try!thanks:)!

So,guys...

After many setup chances and tries, I’ve been just using :

Leather grip
2grs at buttcap
Dampener
Hybrid strings(multi WSensation 1,25 on mains at 22kgs/poly TB 1,15 Soft on cross at 21kg

It’s very HL,like I love!
Fast Swing!

However, some wrist issues have been bothering me in last days...

Any thoughts about this?
Could it be just “time adaptation” period?

I’ve never had wrist issues with my Angell TC100...

Same setup as described,but reversed:

Poly on mains,Multi on Crosses

Could this be the cause...?

Enviado do meu iPhone usando o Tapatalk
My opinion is that poly in the crosses makes the stringbed play stiffer. I would go back to the other setup and see if it changed anything.

Sadly, I stopped playing tennis for now...

My wrist is not collaborating and my fisiotherapist advise me to stop some weeks.

I’m very frustrated because I have never felt issues with the mighty comfortable Angell TC100 16x19 RA63.

Grip change?String pattern?I don’t know the cause, but I tried everything to work out with the Wilson UT...Lower tensions, more mass on frame and thicker grip size...

I’m not a Federer, but my technique is pretty acceptable overall.I don’t think the issue as anything to do with this point.

It seems that once Angell fan, always Angell fan!

Byebye Wilson UT.Thanks for this wrist[emoji17]...

Interesting. I too have had a very sore wrist since switching to the Ultra Tour.

In all fairness, I felt some minor pain in the months running up to the switch when I was using a K7 Red strung with RPM blast @46lbs. Really liked that setup. Hurt my wrist though. It was fine with Poly Tour Pro and I could always play without pain.

Then, I tried the Ultra Tour and fell in love with it. However, within around 3 weeks I needed to stop playing. Didn't really know why because the Ultra Tour feels stunning. But my wrist was just so painful. This was stock Ultra Tour strung with a full bed of gut at 56lbs.

I've tried numerous weighted setups since and this does help with the wrist pain, but it doesn't eliminate it completely for me. It still hurts (although a lot less) after sessions. Maybe it's because there's an underlying injury already. But then, when I use a different (less comfortable frame) the wrist appears in better nick after the session. Bizzare.

Anyway, my latest customisation plan is to add silicone in the handle to see if that helps.
I think using the Ultra Tour in stock is an error. And maybe it's a frame that's just a little too demanding for me. Maybe I'm just framing the ball more than I think I am and this is what's causing the issue.

Will keep this post updated with how adding silicone feels versus no silicone, and what I end up doing with the Ultra Tours. I hope I can keep them.

I have, as a counter measure ordered a ProKennex Q Tour 325 to see how my wrist responds too.

Will report back soon.

I’ve played with Ultra Tour v2 for a couple months. Despite low RA it’s stiff in the upper hoop. No amount of lead will change that, nor different string setup. Maybe silicone in the handle will help.

If you think the K7 Red RPM Blast with PTP lets you play permanently without pain that is what you need to switch back to that I guess.

Its read likes you destroyed your wrist doing something else and instead of fully taking care of it - used some bandages to tolerate it - then switched to the Ultra Tour - and blaming directly or indirectly.

It is not too late - get your wrist looked at, find out what it is and take care of it. Wrist damage takes a long long time to heal but it does get better. Wrist taping (during play) & continual simple exercises & stuff like the gyroball etc could work. Or maybe you already tried all that....

"I need a 350G 370SW 58RA 18x20 93in prostock it'll make me play better I swear" says the consumer base that struggles with the Ultra Tour

No shade being thrown at OP or anyone else in the thread, it's just funny to think about
