Wilson, please leave it alone. The Ultra Tour is amazing as it is. One of the very best platform sticks! 18/20 is perfect! ;)

Why can't they make both... they already have the 18x20... if they add the 16x19 it just adds to the line... doesn't have to be one or the other... does it?

If you mean... leave the racquet as is with no new "technology"... then I understand what you're trying to say. Even in that scenario, if the new and improved "Feel Flex"... or whatever... Ultra Tour comes out, and you don't like it, get the very discounted and now "old" UT on sale. If you like the new UT (as the Blade has been a big success), then get that one and rejoice... Win/Win... at least in my book. :)

As long as they leave the 18/20 in the line up! :)

Agreed... I love it and it's a great racquet.

I don't see why they wouldn't. They still make the Blade 18x20... they just added the 16x19 and now we can choose. As long as it was selling well there is no reason not to keep making it.

Sorry if I missed the info but do we know when will we get to see something regarding the new Ultra Tour? Q1 2020?
I'd be happy if we get to know if there's an open pattern version coming.

Posting my thoughts after 11 hours of play with this beauty. The one I got seemed close to the specs. I added 4 grams(in total) at 3-9 and 3 grams at the top of the handle. I thought the grip L2 was a bit bigger than what I am used to so I bought a Babolat Skin Feel grip. In total it's about 335g, 32.5 bal and 332SW.

I thought the power was not too bad at all with this racquet. Control is obviously excellent and top spin is getting better and better as I'm getting a feel for it (launch angle). I really like 18x20s so no problem there. Right from the start my volleys were great and that's a weakness for me. They felt great either punching or going for more touch and finesse. Off the ground, this racquet is great on both sides and for me it gives me a great forehand. I think my angles are getting better and I have no problem getting a feel for depth. Once both feet are planted you can get some good power and precision. Backhand was average at the start but again once I got the feel for mixing the launch angle and spin it gave me the same depth control as on my forehand. One of the biggest thing with this racquet is the sweet spot. It has a great feeling and it's not too small. I'm always excited for my next game time with it to get that feeling. It has great plow through and definitely gives confidence that it will win the collision with the ball = great at directional control as well.

Overal a great and beautiful racquet and even better at the current price it is on sale now. Picked up a 2nd one !

Babolat Pro Hurricane Tour 17 @53. I'm really liking that string ! I've been monitoring the tension with the app after every session with the Ultra just to get a feel for the string/racquet. It's now at 44, but I find that that string plays pretty much similar as fresh. With the Solinco (and maybe I should revisit it) it didn't seem to lose tension but it played more and more like a trampoline as hours pilled up. I could be wrong as I don't have a vast experience trying out strings, but I'm satisfied with that model.

My notes :
Wilson Ultra Tour
53 - 7th November measured on app
51 after 24h
48 - after 1h30 of play
46 - 4h30 13 November
45 - 6h 14nov
45 - 7h30
44.5 - 9h 19 November
44 - 11h 21 November

@Wheelz your end spec is very similar to what I use. I also find adequate power blended with great accuracy.
I’ve always been a bit confused when I hear guys adding a tonne of lead to the hoop to their UT and saying there’s no power.

Just bought 2 used ones which were professionally customized to the following unstrung specs: 314g static weight, BP 31,2 cm, SW 290. Reads great and this way I don’t have to deal with Wilson QC and customizing myself. I’m more than happy with the Prince TT100p actually but had to buy them anyway...just in case I miss thinner beams one day...

I was curious and had my first outing with them indoors today, removed the leather grip they came with and added a synthetic replacement grip + 4 gr of tungsten in the butt cap so strung specs are 334g, BP 32,7, SW ~ 320+, strung with Solinco xperience @ 23,5.
Compared to the 2019 100p there’s obviously less power but the plus in control makes up for it. Actually I felt more confident swinging freely on my weaker fh side cause it’s really hard to overhit if you hit in front of your body. Volleys and slices are better, too, and the UT felt a bit more stable. Sweetspot is bigger with the 100p due to head size but there’s more feedback from the UT on how a good shot should feel, gets really addictive after a while. I like serving with both racquets, but again it was really hard to miss with the UT, think I made 70-80 percent of 1st serves today.
Tough decision to which racquet to commit now...should have never bought them

UTs are awesome. Can mod them to your preferred spec and they are just so good. Power is not their strong suit. It’s got control and feel in spades.

Received my 2nd Ultra (excellent deals right now!). Requested to get the same weight at 305g stock. I did get that but balance and SW (calculated by me) was a bit off. The 2nd one was 327SW and 33 bal VS 323 and 32.5. Just some small adjustment here and there to match them as close as possible.

Now both are at 336g, 32.6bal and 335sw. No way to measure the twistweight but I added 4g @3-9 on both (1g@12 at the lesser SW racquet). Still feels good, love the combination feeling of the racquet crushing the ball with the buttery sweet spot feel.

Briefly hit with my Ultra Tour, and I notice it feels more precise and less flexy than my v7 Blade 18x20. But how can that be given that they have very similar stiffness ratings (62 Blade vs 63 UT)? How does that work? Is the UT more of a consistent/linear flex whereas Blade has more of the flex in a specific region, possibly feels like the hoop?

Flex in racquets can vary a lot. Just try out the clash and the prince phantom for comparison. The clash flexes off to the sides, while the phantom has more of a uniform response.

I’d say so, yes. Blade v7 also feels more plush in the upper hoop cause there’s more weight for absorption.
I had my second hit with my UT yesterday and so far I can’t find a single thing which I don’t like about it. If my footwork is on point and I find the sweetspot there’s enough power and spin, no problem. In comparison my TT100p felt less maneuverable but I’ll wait for the clay season to start until I decide on one of them.

The UT has a much denser 18/20 string pattern than the blade. As a result the string bed will feel stiffer at the same tension. Also the 2 frames flex differently. The blade has more stiffness in the upper hoop than the UT.

In the shop the other day I spotted an older version of the Wilson Ultra (?.. blue paint job) that looked to be a 93-95-ish headsize with a box beam — looks like a more forgiving K90/K88. Anyone know much about that frame?

Bro, we saw a picture of an Ultra paintjob model before it was deleted. Even if we didn't we all know the pj scheme.
I meant details regarding the new mold. Some hope for the H22 mold to be released...

Any leaks about the supposedly upcoming Ultra Pro?
Bro, it's a 98, 18x20. I saw the weight when the rep came, but I forget if its 310g or 305g. Unsure if the mold with share characteristics the new Ultras or something like an H22.

I would bet it's closer to an H22 though. Its priced the same as the RF97, higher than the other Ultras. This makes me think they aren't counting on selling a lot of them, but they know the people who buy them won't be price sensitive (ie racquetholics on TTW).

Goran Ivanisevic recently playing with what looks like a 16x19 ultra tour if my eyes served me correctly. Looked 97-98ish and couldn't see any pws. He had been sporting a Wilson clash (or at least pj) for a bit during practices and stuff but this is new. Interesting...

Because Head is stupid. He ordered some Speeds and Head sent a bill for it. Goran sent racquets back to them and went to Wilson.

Head is stupid and cheap. They love to sell you low quality junk that is a total waste of money.

RA is just one stiffness metric, and a static and one-dimensional one at that. TWU also list vibration frequency which is a nice (stiffness metric) complement to the RA measurement.

You can read about it here:

If you also look at the measurements for the new blade 98 18x20 and compare it to the UT, you’ll notice that the blade has a much lower vibration freq (132 vs 144). Lower = flexier, and Ime below 140 feels very smooth and flexy on impact.

What do you guys string your UT at ?
Going to string both of mine this PM. I've got HyperG 17 and Hurricane Pro Tour in stock.

Mostly played with Hurricane @53. Tried Volkl Cyclone Tour 16 @ 53-51 first time trying different cross tension. I believe I preferred the Hurricane setup.

Looking for ideas! Or I'll just stick to my classic.

Kirschbaum Pro Line Evolution working really well. Good feel, pop, bite and spin. I’ve tried it at 50lbs and 47lbs, will probably settle on 49 from here on out. Added bonus that it’s blue.

I also enjoyed RPM Blast 17 @52 but didn’t have the longevity or feel like PLE. Great spin though and excellent bite.

I did gut/poly of VS Touch / Hurricane which was awesome but personal preference goes to full bed poly.

Many great options to choose from.

Since it's a tight-ish 18x20, I tend to use thinner gauge strings (18 gauge or 18L) to get more spin, etc.

I would try Cyclone 18L (1.15mm) @ 50M/47C or MSV Co-Focus (in blue) 1.18mm @48M/45C (tried this in my Angell TC95 18x20 63RA and it was great - will be trying it on my UT).

I have used Weiss Cannon Red Ghost (1.18mm) on other racquets. It's shaped, has great spin, is very comfortable, but is a reddish-pink colour so not sure if you'd like the combo. You could pair it with a white-ish cross and go for the blue, red, white theme, but it's all personal.

If you try Hyper-G, I'd personally go with the 1.15mm version... more spin and softer feel. I used it in my Phantom Pro 93P @ 48M/45C but I'd go lower next time... maybe like 45/42.

I hope that helps. :)

Thanks! I already had the 1.2 17 HyperG in stock. I will try it and consider 18 next time ! I will try a lower string tension. The Pro Line likes nice as well looking at the specs.

HyperG was good yesterday when I rallied. Injured but can still rally a bit...that's why I am in tinkering mode.

What is the balance of your Ultras ? It looks like many have a leather grip, so I imagine balance is closer to 315-320mm? I tried my other racquet as well yesterday with a 315mm balance and it felt good/free on serve and ground strokes. I was thinking of keeping same SW on Ultra but trying to bring it at a 315-320 balance. The weight will be more to achieve that. 340-345g probably.

If you were asking me, I'm not sure of the balance, but it has a leather grip, overgrip, and weight added to both the head and the handle. I think that my static weight is around 353g (but that will depend on the strings used and their gauge).

Dunlop CX 200Tour 16x19.

The RA of that one is higher... and from memory both the TW reviewers and others have said it's crisp rather than plush. The UT has a wonderful feel, IMO, and is plusher and closer to the old-school Heads of the '90s but at a more customizable weight.

Otherwise, it looks very nice.

I just got another UT coming so that I have a spare if the new 'FeelFlex' or whatever they will call the technology with the Ultra "Tour" equivalent is not great.

Anyone have infos about the new UT (or Ultra Pro is it now?)?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

There were some photos posted in another Ultra thread.

Not sure if the racquet is genuine or a fake... but looks like just a paint job change to the latest Clash/ Blade colour scheme pattern with silver where the current light blue is found, and light blue at the top of the head (where Blade is light green).

There seems to be no FeelFlex like technology (at least in the Ultra Tour/Pro).

The naming change from Tour to Pro that happened was also applied to the Clash - hadn’t noticed it before, but Pro seems to be what Wilson’s going with these days

I be heard the same. Do you have any hands on experience ?

Yes. I have an H19 with Wilson Blade 98S Countervail paint job, as well as a total of four Ultra Tours (*I kept two). It seems like the Ultra Tour was made stiffer to make it easier to play & more predictable to attract wider audiences. Though I'm really enjoying the H19 modded, it took me a little while to get used to its flexible feel. It seems like the frame has a uniform flex really pockets the ball. On touch shots, it feels like I'm hitting with my hands (*really connected) and at hard impacts, it feels rock solid. The Ultra Tour feels a lot stiffer in comparison, but it is easier to just pick up and play.

I do echo the easy playability of the UT. Do you think an H19 justifies the price difference?

I honestly don’t think so. Wilson’s done a good job with the Ultra Tour. It’s highly customizable and relatively easy to just pick up and play. It also feels nice and has predictable responses. It just feels stiffer overall than the H19, which I think makes it easier to play with. The H19 will take some getting used to because it feels so soft and hard to control the depth at first.

Agreed. I prefer the UT. Picked mine up again after a long absence and was reminded of why I liked it so much. Does EVERYTHING well and with great comfort/feel. Further the QC on them seems really good. [emoji3]

I was able to hit an h19 recently and it was very nice. I’m not expecting much in wow factor or lack of between the retail and the ultra.

The way the h19 felt reminded me of the new 93p 18m. But it was a quick hit with both.

Interesting comparison, but I completely agree with you. Imo, the new 93P definitely has more of a plush, classic Prestige feel compared to the previous version. I also found the flex of the new model to be much more pronounced as well, which helped bolster the effect. It would be interesting to hear more of your impressions if you have any, not many people have hit with the new version it seems.
