Wilson ultra v5 Thread

Hey, Just was getting done with my training today and saw the new v5 Ultra being play tested here at the campus by roughly 100 Wilson staff members. No pictures I can share, but the paint job pops alot more than the v4. not more of that pretty color changing blue. Its this bright blue similar to the new ezone but with a bit of a shinier finish. Racket had a tad of a different mold, Looks nice.

I myself was actually apart of a play test for some prototype Wilson clay tennis balls, Which both seemed lighter and at-least in my opinion trying to make the same speed achievable on clay courts than hard courts for a simultaneous, more similar experience regarding timing and speed at-least between the 2 surfaces.

Do you know what all models will be included in the v5 launch? I saw some rumors that some kind of 100 version of the Pro was in testing

Had a chance to hit a Steam 100 pro stock the other day (painted as a Blade v9, full gloss) and would definitely not mind if the Steam 100 was reincarnated as the Blade Ultra Pro 100. Gave me HTour 95 vibes, except noticeably more forgiving with equal precision.

Looking forward to the updated power Ultra..
Just please don't be so thick like current model.
It's like a kite the drags through the air..

I wonder if they're sticking with the 16x18 string pattern. People are a lot more averse to anything less than 16x19 than they were when the Steam 99 first came out.

There will be a 99, enough of 98's considering how bad was the RF.
Ultra stands for power (except for the Pro) so no need to rush another unpopular racquet just because
I'm thinking like an Ezone 98 rival- there's no way that could be unpopular. The "modern player's" range is becoming very popular these days. I just made the switch, even though I prefer the feel of Wilson rackets. I don't see how a 99 and a 100 could be that different- If I were Wilson, I would use an undulating beam that is thin and flexy at the throat and stiffer and thicker in the hoop.

In the same vein if you don't see how a 99 going up to 100 could be that different then what would be so different about going up from 98 to 99? The reality is that you can put a 98 and 100 frame together and the difference in head size is very small. The difference of how 98's and 100's behave is more due to differences in beam thickness, static weight, swing weight, etc than the two square inches of head size. Manufacturers change the specs on each size to make more of a variance between them or the 2 square inch difference would be largely pointless.

Alright- that's a fair statement. I agree with that. I suppose the GPro (100sq in) plays like more of a player's frame than most of the 98sq inch rackets anyways.

I think the Ezone is the exact opposite of Wilson feel in a racquet and really hard to replicate in that aspect or more important give that racquet an identity (Something some people argue about head 98's) ... Ezone since 2014 has more or less depending on the version, fine tuning that middle ground of controlled power and control.
I don't remember exactly but the Shift aimed to that specs with different flex profiles around the frame and still the frame didn't do much or have the differential people find in a good well rounded modern players racquet.
With the come back of the Steam 99 we might be able to agree that Wilson was really flash forward to the future but at that time being we were not ready for this idea of controlled power.

We could well see Nishikori's 98 if Wilson Japan do an update for 2025 as a JPN exclusive like the Tour 95/Tour 100 have been for V4

I just gotta know what the decision making process was with bringing back the Steam 99 and not the 100. I got nothing against the 99 and I’m looking forward to trying it. But there’s so much momentum among enthusiasts for the 100 specifically, and when you finally decide to take a chance and rerelease a model that more or less failed, you choose… its cousin. Just a confusing choice to me.

DeMinaur and Kostyuk (Wilson's main sponsored all over player) use the 99 - they're both pretty high up Wilson's poster child ladder so that probably fed into it.

There is only one Ultra the 97 as listed first in Tennis Warehouse
https://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Wilson_Ultra_Racquets/catpage-WILSONULTRA.html

There is no 99, some ugly PD copies in the 100 and 108 granny stick all painted flashy blue.
You guys talking about the Steam 99 or Burn but no H19 based Ultra 97 or P25.
The P25 Prince copy is a better stick than Steam 99 peewee herman DeMinaur swings.

Ultra 97
good to see they went up to ra62 from ra59 but still not enough!

Meant to reply to this

I hit with the 99sq. in 16x18 (I think?) Ultra yesterday and it felt awesome. It looks like a completely new mold, boxy-ish beam, thinner than the v4 ultra but thicker than the ultra pro (33mm?). A quick look at the specs on the gram showed 305g, 32.5cm bal. It has a bright galactic purple/blue color, great feel, lots of weight in the head. It almost felt like a speed MP competitor from Wilson, with easy access to spin.

I loved the new mold. Does anyone know if this will come in a tighter string pattern as well? Akin to the speed line?

I think that's the new Ultra Pro - paintjob of Steam 99 (De Minaur etc...) - just the 16x18 being released by the sounds

That is not a Steam mold

Looks like Kei's PWS-less NTour modification. I forget if it had a larger head or what. But def that frame geometry

That may be the new ultra, id like that - Keis frame is 18x19 - but im talking about the 16x18 frame he commented on play testing which was not the one in the pic
