Nobody talks about women.

Here is the draw:
http://www.wimbledon.org/en_GB/scores/draws/ws/index.html

Possible QF matchups:
Ivanovic - Schnyder/Vaidisova/Chakvetadze
Kuznetsova/Radwanska - Serena/Bartoli
Sharapova - Dementieva/Safina/Davenport
Jankovic/Zvonareva - Hantuchova/Venus

The top half looks weaker with probable Ivanovic - Serena SF
In the bottom half Jankovic got a tough draw with Venus in QF and Maria in SF.

Voted for Jelena despite a tough draw. She is the Venus killer :)

The draw for maria is difficult....possible rematch with safina, davenport is of course a dark horse contender to make it through, Elena on grass though is not as big a threat as Elena on other surfaces...she could do something...but I don't think she will. then Maria could have to face her grasscourt Nemesis Venus in the Semi's....and if that happens I don't see maria avenging her losses. although I for one hope Jankovic can live up to her number 2 seeding and topple Venus, but Jelena has probably the most difficult draw of the top 4. Serena has a relatively easy draw to the quarters, with unreliable players mauresmo and bartoli in her section I don't see her having a problem getting to the final eight unless she falls apart like she did in paris. I wouldn't count on Ivanovic and Serena in the Semi's...Kuznetsova could surprise Serena, and like I said...Serena may fall apart early.

I honestly don't know...this draw is open with the last year on injuries and inconsistencies, but I am gonna go with Jelena....She's a fighter and I am thinking she can captialize on Venus's eratic play and maybe Sharapova's shoulder and get through.

My picks.. Sharapova, then Serena, then Ivanovic, then Venus, then Jelena

I just watched Sharapova at the Australian open on youtube for the first time and Damn.. when she is on she is on... maybe she'll be on this year.

Ivanovic.. maybe the GS will give her less pressure? Or maybe it will give her more? I don't know.. she has the game though.

Williams sisters... who knows.. they can turn it up and then fall down at any given moment.

Jelena will be the winner only if the women above stumble.

ETA: I totally forgot about Svetlana.. I think she is like a less reliable version of a williams sister.. can turn it up or down (but is more down at GS it seems..)

and Anna.. I had to think about who the heck Anna was referring to at first in the poll.. kournikova as a joke?? Mispelling of Ana ivanovic?? Oh yeah Chakvedatze.. I totally forgot she existed in the top ten to be quite honest.

No idea

This draw is so ridiculously open. I'm going to say Davenport, just because I can.

why isn't amelie in the poll? i know she hasn't been playing well lately but she has won wimbledon before. for that alone she deserves to be on the list, no?

Jelena couldnt even win the French Open on clay with it all set up for her, with her playing a brilliant match in the semis and leading Ivanovic multiple times in every set. She still couldnt get the job done. So how on earth is she going to win Wimbledon after even failing to win the French Open with it all set up for her and near her best possible tennis.

What do you mean by "set up for her"? She was close in FO. I agree that Williams sisters, Maia and Ana have a much better chance here, but Jelena is better grass court player than most of the people think. Especially on today's Wimbledon grass.

It was set up for her in that she was in a perfect situation to win it. Venus is not a contender at all at the French Open anymore, Maria is very beatable there, even Serena is iffy there. Justine was retired, Kim is long retired. Ana hadnt won a slam, Kuznetsova hasnt in a long, the other Russian contenders havent. She had a perfect situation to win, it was wide open to her, and she played some of her best tennis, was leading her semi alot of times, and she still couldnt pull it off. So with the perfect situation for her at the French and doing everything she could to do it, she still wasnt able to. So there is no way after that she is going to pull it off at Wimbledon where Venus, Serena, and Maria are all alot stronger; and where she will have an even harder time beating Ana here then clay, who as I said she just failed to beat at the French despite playing an awesome semi and leading so many times.

I agree with this even though I like Jelena a lot.I really thought she had a chance in FO and she certainly was very close but didn't make it in the end.I do not see her as a Wimbledon contender with Williams sisters,Ana and Sharapova around.I would love to see her win Wimbledon and surprise everybody but I doubt that she will.

....

I hope JELENA can do well here. I noticed the name CARLA SUAREZ NAVARRO. It would be a sencond round match. I can see this becoming a very tough match. Hopefully not. I remember her having a pretty extreme western forehand grip. On grass that would be the side to get to I guess. Her backhand is pretty amazing.

I am curious to see how Petra Kvitova (CZE) does. Her game is suited specially for grass.... Really smooth swings & very low-flying flat shots.

I vote for Alize Cornet. with her powerful backhand, she could come thru as a darkhorse.:)

I think Radwanska (impressive grass title this weekend) and Azarenka are both contenders, also.

Amelie fan here, and I don't even like women's tennis. I thought the same thing, but let's face it, she's over.

Funny 1st rd matchup, though, she's drawn the little sprite who posed for Playboy.

Top 9 seeds + other are options on the poll. I think that is fair.

Absolutely! Jelena blew that big time. It was all set up for her. She will not be so lucky on grass. There are too many contenders there!

If anybody here happens to care for WTA matches,Ana has just won the match against her first round opponent.

5 seeded players lost 1st day: Schnyder(12), Cornet(17), Kirilenko(19), Razzano (27) and Cibulkova (30)

Kuznetsova and Chakvetadze also had a lot of problems but won at the end.

Cornet lost not a biggest surprise for me. She not even an elite and big enough to challenge for the titles.

Day 2: Sharapova schedule to play. Curious about her latest new white apparel. She always the most fashionable ladies on court.

Two interesting matches going on now:
Schiavone - Pazsek 6-3 5-7 8-8
Goerges - Srebotnik 4-6 7-6 10-10

Wow Sharapova wearing a white tuxedo with short pant :D. She really fashionable in her look. A good start from her by winning so easily 6-1 6-4.

Well in a perfect world I would love Dementieva, but in a realistic sense I think it could be either Venus or Maria that takes it.

Allez Natalie, don't let her off the hook. I hope she doesn't folds like she did when she played Davenport in the 05 Aussie Open semis.

I didn't' understand what it was? Did Dechy's hat interfere with the game play or something? was that the ump's decision?

It's apparently a rule, that if the hat falls before the point is completed it has to be replayed.

Come on!I'm never going to watch Markos!!Finish allready!!!Allez!!

7-7
