Remember Rosol, a first-time qualifier last year, caused one of the biggest upsets in Wimbledon history.

This year, the men's qualifiers (& current ranking in brackets) are:

1. Stephane Robert (FRA) (165)
2. Bastian Knittel (GER) (204)
3. Julian Reister (GER) (139)
4. Wayne Odesnik (USA) (104)
5. Dustin Brown (GER) (187)
6. Denis Kudla (USA) (112)
7. Jan-Lennard Struff (GER) (115)
8. Matt Reid (AUS) (212)
9. Jimmy Wang (TPE) (152)
10 James Duckworth (AUS) (169)
11 Michal Przysiezny (POL) (126)
12 Bobby Reynolds (USA) (149)
13 Go Soeda (JPN) (129)
14 Alex Kuznetsov (USA) (175)
15 Marc Gicquel (FRA) (132)
16 Teymuraz Gabashvili (RUS) (134)

And their 1st round draws & opponents and ranking:

Odesnik vs Wang
Duckworth vs Kudla
Reynolds vs Steve Johnson (USA) (120)
Struff vs Blaz Kavcic (SLO) (124)
Soeda vs Andreas Haider-Maurer (AUT) (108 )
Przysiezny vs Philipp Petzschner (GER) (98 )
Gabashvili vs Roberto Bautista Agut (ESP) (62)
Kuznetsov vs Igor Sijsling (NED) (60)
Robert vs Alejandro Falla (COL) (74)
Brown vs Guillermo Garcia-Lopez (ESP) (79)
Reid vs Radek Stepanek (CZE) (46)
Reister vs Lukas Rosol (CZE) (34)
Knittel vs Juan Monaco (ARG) [22]
Gicquel vs Vasek Pospisil (CAN) (99)

1) At least two qualifiers will be in the 2nd round as two matches are between the qualifiers.

2) Five lowly-ranked opponents (No. 98, 99, 108, 120, 124), almost as lowly as qualifiers. The top seed in qualifying was Dudi Sela (No. 90) and he was knocked out in the Q1.

3) There are no big name opponents, only 3 in top 50 and one seed.

You have to say that the draws this year have been very kind for qualifiers, but where is the next Rosol?

Really good thread and well put together, I must say. Many 'mini' upsets up for grabs here. The first couple of rounds should be even more compelling than usual for the hardcore tennis fan.

Hah, meanwhile the Belgian players who didn't have to qualify get to play Nadal, Tsonga and Verdasco :)
The draw really is weird this year.

And you forgot one famous Belgian ......

Kevin Anderson (RSA) [27] v Olivier Rochus (BEL)

I think Olivier is one of the lucky losers.

Of the 3 qualifiers featured in R2 yesterday, Brown knocked out Hewitt to match into R3.

R2 - Brown 3:1 Lleyton Hewitt (AUS) (6:4 6:4 6:7(3) 6:2)
R2 - Robert 0:3 Benoit Paire (FRA) (4:6 5:7 4:6)
R2 - Reister 1:3 Jurgen Melzer (AUT) (6:3 6:7(2) 6:7(5) 2:6)

Brown, the Jamaican dreadlock, is fun to watch, serve & volley, drop volleys and drop shots, loose and relaxing, imposing his Reggae style of unpredictable play upon Hewitt throughout the whole match. That was an entertaining match.

However girls are making bigger impact in the Championships......

Of the 12 girls qualified, 5 made into R2:

Garcia 2:0 Jie Zheng (CHN)
Cetkovska 2:0 Donna Vekic (CRO)
Birnerova 2:1 Varvara Lepchenko (USA) [26]
Duque-Mariño 2:1 Julia Goerges (GER)
Larcher De Brito 2:0 Melanie Oudin (USA)

And 3 girls played their R2 matches yesterday, they all won through in straight set, and knocked out Sharapova and Wozniacki in process, what a shock!

R2 - Birnerova 2:0 Lesia Tsurenko (UKR) (6:3 6:4)
R2 - Cetkovska 2:0 Caroline Wozniacki (DEN) [9] (6:2 6:2)
R2 - Larcher De Brito 2:0 Maria Sharapova (RUS) [3] (6:3 6:4)
