Finally Nadal gets a win on grass again!

What a coincidence the same score from their RG13 encounter, might be a good omen...

He lost in the second round just last year...

1) That was 1 match and a very close one btw
2) Federer was in absolutely horrible form at the time, he got straight setted by Brands and Delbonis just weeks later
3) Nadal got straight setted by Kohlschreiber in Halle 2012, then beat by Rosol at Wimbledon. Straight setted by Darcis at Wimbledon a year later and completely demorlized by Brown in Halle this year.

Anything else? Oh but please tell us how Federer losing a first round at Wimbledon in the 90's means he's more prone to being upset now.

I know I've poked fun at Nadal a bit but I'm honestly happy he won. I don't want him to win the title but I'd like him to play up to his name and do well.

The 2nd round match against Rosol will be interesting. If he gets through that he'll get to the 4th round at the very least.

What is this guy Klizan. It was so obvious that Nadal was in trouble whenever Klizan hit a short ball to Nadal BH. He used that tactics effectively in 1st set, but then started just hitting deep balls to Nadal. Why the **** change a winning game? You a loser Klizan?

Rafa claimed his 700th career win!
He became the 11th man in the Open Era to record at least 700 career match wins.

Djokovic, Murray and Federer all had their first round matches handed to them on a plate. Their matches were very noncompetitive. Rafa vs Klizan was a very competitive, enjoyable match.

He only managed to hit that shot consistently as a inside/out slice forehand from inside the court, you can't just pull that off in the middle of a rally.

If you're looking for more, Rosol in R2.

That probably isn't a good omen though...

As for Federer losses, so early on in career doesn't count, last year doesn't count either. Gotcha. I especially like how the stak match was "close" but Rosol wasn't?

And Halle has no bearing on Wimbledon whatsoever, the grass plays much differently up there.

So what you're saying is that Djokovic, Murray, and Federer are all superior players? Got it.

In fairness, it was only competitive for Rafa because Rafa is the least adept on grass out of those 3. Sure, the aforementioned 3 players had easy matches, Federer especially, but for the most part they were easy because the three of them were able to take care of business.

But again, this is a Nadal fan just reaching for some other way to glorify Nadal. Humorous, but insufferable.

F, W, Q, Q, W, 2R > W, A, W, F, 2R, 1R

But Nadal was also in trouble with Klizan's sharp angled CC BHs. Nadal was clearly afraid to bend the knee on grass. Klizan should have just kept hitting to Nadal BH, instead of warming up Nadal FH. Deep balls to Nadal BH don't trouble him, it's the short and sharp angle shots that trouble the knee.

Nadal has been absolutely horrendous on THE ENTIRE SURFACE since 2011 whether he's been in-form or not, God, he won the FO in 2012,2013,2014 and then got owned on grass straight afterwards. Federer had some serious back issues in mid-2013 and got also upset before and after Wimbledon which means he didn't have an issue with the surface but with his form in general. Now that he's healed up he shouldn't lose before the quarters.

The fact that you need to bring up Federer's losses from the 90's and early 00's means that you got no arguments whatsoever and are biased to the bone. Please continue getting owned just as when you kept arguing with me that Murray was ranked 5th in the world at the Australian Open in 2010 where I shot you in the face with hard evidence and you still continued to argue. Go enjoy your Nadal victory at Wimbledon cause you never know when his last is.

The QF streak strikes again!

Hey, come on. Nadal is more vulnerable than Federer in the first week of Wimbledon. That is exactly why Nadal fans are more worried right now than Federer fans are. That'll change in the second week, of course.

I totally agree, I just find it funny that those two streaks are pretty much tied (2 W and 1 F) until we reach the decisive QF level.

Trolling aside, this was a good match for Nadal. Serve and forehand was clicking as the match went on and he grew more confident, flattening out his forehand. If he beats Rosol, this Wimbledon could get very interesting.

I would say the weather played a big part in this match. The sun coming out loosened up Nadal as well as the ball bouncing a little higher.

Nobody commented on it, but Nadal looked really ****ed when Klizan challenged the last point  He was frowning and I think he said "It was out!"... which it was, but it was kinda close and it's Klizan's right to challenge.

People are failing to realize, Nadal is just as arrogant as all the other champions who played the game. He just has a massive PR machine to promote the "humble" image.

Moi aussi! Terre battue et herbe forment un contraste parfait. Les matches semblent aller a toute vitesse a W. C'est rafraichissant apres l'ambiance "sang et sueur" de la terre.

You are failing to realize that instead of 'massive PR machine' Rafa has had his family that raised him to be who he is.
Rafa's public relations manager Benito Pérez-Barbadillo, who is working for Rafa since 2006, said 3-4 years ago: ¤¤ Rafa is a dream to work with because he understands the work, he gets it. He’s a nice guy, easy to work with. I don’t even have to brief him on things. He says whatever he wants. I just tell him what the situation is. ¤¤

You cannot be serious.

At Wimbledon, Rafa has a 1:2 against Fed, 1:1 against Nole, 3:0 against Andy. He's made the final 5 times and won it twice; Nole has only made the final twice and won it once and Muzz has only made the final once and won it once. Nadal also won the twin title in 2008 - Queens followed by Wimbledon.
