Wimbledon 2014 R128: Martin Klizan vs Rafael Nadal [2]

In all seriousness, I think Nadal's got this one in 3.

He lost an absolute shocker in 2012 in the 1st round, but once he got over it (if he ever did...) he probably thought "No biggie. It happens."

Then came something he didn't expect a year later: another challenge from a big hitter playing in the zone and like he's not afraid of Nadal at all.

Although Nadal is definitely extremely vulnerable on grass, after what's happened the last two years I think he'll go into this year's Championships ready for anything. That being said, I don't think him being ready for anything will necessarily stop someone who's capable from taking out Nadal. I just don't think it'll be Klizan.

There are two things wrong with your post. He lost the 2nd round in 2012. And Darcis is not a big hitter.

There was nothing worrisome about the Rosol loss. That guy was redlining. The Darcis loss, though, is bad. Darcis played a very good match, but he does not really have any weapons. It's just that Nadal looked helpless against a solid Grasscourt match from a solid opponent. I think that if Darcis can beat Nadal, Klizan certainly can. Whether he will remains to be seen.
 
Klizan won't be the one to take out Nadal. Another player whose name begins with a 'K' will do it instead......

Thanks for the correction.

The Rosol loss, in my opinion, was shocking any way you slice it. Rosol was in the zone but whether the match was won on Rosol's racquet or lost on Nadal's it was still shocking.

Funny, why do I remember Darcis hitting big last year and beating Nadal that way? Maybe when I watched it I was just seeing Rosol, lol. Either way, thanks for clarifying. The point remains though: he wasn't afraid of Nadal one bit and it showed in his play. Maybe not big hitting but it seemed very confident and deliberate.
 
Nadal's first 3 matches will probably be tougher than his potential 4R-SF matches. This is definitely one to watch out for, Klizan is a tough customer (though not sure about him on grass). On the other hand, if Nadal makes it to the QF, he has to be considered a massive danger for anyone else in the draw (maybe even the favorite).

Noleberic, I only watched some highlights of that upset. Yet, I saw how big Brown was hitting that match he lost to Kohlschreiber. On the heels of the FO final, I don't think it proves very much. It does give us some indication though that Nadal is really finding it difficult to really get his bearings on grass again, possibly due to the difficulty with getting down low repeatedly, but also maybe that little loss of quickness over the years is taking a cumulative toll. Yet, Nadal seems to be a player that thrives when he gains confidence and he often seems to build momentum with each win at Wimbledon. So, if he got some good practice in, I think he'll seize the moment and work his way into this tourney. After that, watch out. Anyway, first up is Klizan for him.

Lol Nadal discrediting Rosol and Darcis. To do well on grass, you gotta get through the lush and low bouncing conditions of the first week.

Yes, the Rosol loss was shocking. But it wasn't something to worry about for Nadal because Rosol would've beaten most players playing like that. That's what I meant. With Darcis, I seriously doubt he could've beaten Federer, Djokovic, Murray, or even Del Potro. That's what I think, anyway. And that's why that was a loss Nadal has to worry about. Not that Darcis didn't play a very good match, but he wasn't as good as Rosol :)

But this what Nadal likes!.. being the underdog in a match. This is what, imo, I think that Nadal wants...... Nadal to lose the first set, and then came back to win the next three!!

All joking aside, I think the match WILL go something like that...
 
I've figured out now why NAdal always says he is not the favourite.

Talk Tennis isn't always an accurate predictor of who will win the match. In 2012, the majority of Talk Tennis posters thought Federer would beat :D Nadal at AO 2012 (in 4 sets) but Nadal ended up winning in 4 sets. :-P

Back on topic, I think the pressure is on Klizan; the last two years Nadal has gone out to lower ranked players in early rounds. It's almost expected now. Can he handle the pressure?

I think the pressure will be lower because it's no longer a "big deal". So less chance of choking.
 
So nervous this morning. My Wimbledon has been ruined the last two years - I am telling myself he is going out early so I can cope better. I am going to enjoy Wimbledon this year even if he goes out early. My overall happiness does not depend on one man.

How is everyone else feeling this morning??? Forget about analysing the match - how are you feeling emotionally??!

It's NADAL! Snap out of it :) He'll go out there and kill it. I'll be watching calmly with a pipe :lol: #Bolieve and enjoy the match, and especially the angry haters after.
