Yep, definitely true. Fed lost some precision on his FH after the racquet switch and while it helped him tremendously against the rest of the tour, it hurt him in the match-up with Novak.

The "stretch" is thinking that somehow Federer is playing the most incredible grass tennis ever and Djokovic is playing the worst grass tennis ever.

You're going from one extreme theory to another. Any player can have a bad stretch of ~8 points, which is all it takes to go two breaks down. Then your tank theory makes sense. Nobody is saying Federer is playing great grass court tennis by any stretch of the imagination.
