I wish this was a 26-year old Fed so people would realize what a huge age difference 6 years is.

Djokovic in 4 is my guess. Federer's serve has to be spot on to have a chance.

I am pretty torn about this. Both of Djokovic and Fed are my Favorites and both of them are at a stage where they might not win a slam hereafter at all.

Yes that applies more to Fred and that's why I want him to win slightly more, but people forget just last year before WB Djokovic was in a very very bad place.

Hopefully both of them give great accounts of themselves and play as well as they can. The only thing I want is this to not be a beatdown from either side. There's weeks off after this, hopefully both put in their everything here.

I would be happy if both have moments of brilliance. A good close match. For once I won't be worrying about winner or loser.

May the best man win.

CHUM JEZTE ROGER ! IDEMO NOLE !.

Well the same RBA lost 2-1 vs Federer in Halle and it was 4-4 even in the third set before RBA chocked badly and lost the match.
So what are you talking about?
Well I am talking about Wimbledon, which is another level of tournament. And particularly second week. Roger will not play RBA in a Wimby semi with the same stamina as he would in a 500 event.

But Fed had good runs in 2014 and 2015 and then it turned out playing Nole was very different thing. I don’t think Agut was ever really close today. Nole lost his concentration in the second set but after that he was in control for the rest of the match
I agree that the final result was never in doubt. But Djoko should have taken out Agut with much less effort in a Wimbledon semifinal. And he was not all of that in control in the third set.

Two reasons I have little hope for Federer this time -

1. Abnormally low bouncing grass.
2. Towards the end of Nadal match Federer brought his 2017 level with even better forehand. If his ground game works throughout the match - especially the forehand he can win this match. No loopy forehands in final please.

I actually believe that the extra low bouncing grass is working perfect for Fed.
It favors the fact that Roger sticks on baseline to rally.
The match vs Rafa clearly showed this. He took great advantage from low bouncing, allowing him to get in even more.
The conditions are perfect for Roger, and if his groundstrokes are at the level of the semifinal, we might see the most memorable beat down of the Roger Novak H2H.
Federer in 3 clean sets.

Roger already way exceeded my expectations for this Wimbledon by winning the semi and beating Nadal. Win or lose tomorrow I won’t be upset at all. He could be mentally spent and receive a beat down. It’s OK, I’d blame the draw. But I know Roger won’t go down without a fight. Hoping for a competitive one!

With the euphoria and the dust settling in after last night's great win, it will interesting to see how Federer comes in tomorrow. How mentally exhausted will he be ? Admittedly a fresher Federer will still have huge problems with Djokovic. Djokovic will do what he does best I guess with his deep returns and making things really uncomfortable. Federer for one cannot go into protracted rallies as he did with Nadal. Djokovic keeps the balls in play a little deeper unlike Nadal and will make it much more difficult for Federer to win baseline exchanges. Federer will have to mix things up regularly, not give him any rhythm and employ for the most part the slice backhand. While his BH is still not at the level of his neo-BH of 2017, this is the closest we will get to see him with his much improved BH versus a well playing Djokovic. But I am not sure if it will play a huge role at tomorrow. A reference to this would be the AO2016 semi final match, their last slam match. Federer tried to rally with Djokovic from the baseline and got his behind handed to him the first two sets. The current Djokovic is a level or two below that version but honestly his baseline play is still world class and easily the best in the world at this point in time. Add his serving efficiency nowadays and its a lethal combination.
Djokovic not having a tough match till now might make him a little under cooked for tomorrow. The last two times that Djokovic won Wimbledon, he had some rough battles on the way before he played his best in the Finals. Cilic/Dimitrov in 2014 and Anderson in 2015.

Before the tournament, I would have had Djokovic as clear favourite against Federer in a final - but Novak doesn't quite look himself IMO.

So I'll tentatively go for Federer in 4.

You’re falling into the trap. Even in 2015-2016 Djokovic looks average up until the final. Sure what about the AO this year?. He will play out of skin tomorrow and win in 4 max

Oh indeed, that's a definite possibility. He's done it before.

But he can't do it every time.

That’s true but Federer also has a stellar SF then meets Nole and loses. I remember that masterclass against Murray then Djokovic eased past him. Can only see Djokovic winning unless Fed serves high FS and paints lines

In the same way Nadal can't win RG every time? These great players know how to manage their games. Djokovic has done just enough to get to the final.

And even Fed's biggest haters shouldn't expect Fed at nearly 38 to bring his best level against another ATG in the second consecutive match. Djokodal will never have to do that.

Yes easy straight sets IMO with at least one set of bakery products. In the prediction league I picked Federer in 3, with a total of 24 games.

If Federer will lose it will not be because he played a semifinal against Nadal.
Why not? He is nearly 38 and has to play 2 successive younger ATG to win the title. He had to raise his level for Nadal so it's asking too much to have to do it for another ATG.

Last year Djokovic had Anderson for example so of course he didn't need to raise or maintain his level.

This comes down to Federer winning more second serve points. He hasn’t made djokovic pay enough. He keeps shanking shots. He served well at times in that 2015 Wimbledon final but he was his own worse enemy. Played a lousy tiebreaker in the first set. Had chances to break in the second set before the tiebreaker and played the ocassional loose service game in the 3rd after being up 40-15.

In 2014 and 2015 he had easy paths to Wimbledon finals (an even easier one to USO 2015 final) and he still lost. On the other hand in AO 2017 he played a few five set matches and still beat Nadal in the final. So it's not about the path to the final. He just has problems against a specific player since he got older. Nadal is now an easy matchup for him, with Djokovic it is the opposite.

Wimb 2015 was very similar. Had to raise his level to beat a former champion in the semis against Murray. Then he couldn't replicate that level in the final.

Same thing here, only that he had to play better against Rafa.

Go for roger, Novak still has chances with this abysmal field and he is atleast getting to finals. Fed can easily lose n r4 at the uso to tsitsipas like he did at AO. He also won a slam this year.

Do you think Rafa is better prep for Novak than Murray or other way around.

Federer has a mental block against Djokovic for some years now. That us open in 2015 was all i needed to see. His game has to be sharp if he wants any chance to beat him.

My point is that if he had to face somebody like Querrey in the semifinals I would still expect Djokovic to win the final. He is just a very tough matchup for current Federer.

Federer has simply been dealt with an unfair deck of cards. That is all.

Djokovic is a marginal favorite, nothing more than that IMO. Both will have one significant dip atleast in the match - not just Fed.
If Novak tries to slice/come to the net like he did vs RBA or like vs Thiem at RG (net play), he'll be beaten. He'll have to go back to the old style of relentless groundstrokes if he has to beat Fed.

If even Nadal was struggling vs the Fed slice when it stayed low, expect djokovic to struggle as well. Lets see how much part that plays in the final.
Nadal was struggling cause he couldn't bend his knees at all, I would say right now, Djokovic might be able to handle Fed's slice better

We know Djokovic is the favourite and if I had to bet the house it would be on him (in 4).

But I really think there are reasons to be optimistic for Federer fans.

The low bouncing grass could benefit him, the new racket not being tested yet against Djokovic here, Djok not being tested that much yet, the variety Fed was able to consistently show against Rafa.

One big thing is the mentality. We’ve talked for years about Fed’s mental wall against Nadal and how it developed against Novak. Alongside that, I honestly think in the years before 2017 (and even after) Federer declined to put absolutely everything on the line at times in order to preserve himself and maintain his longevity. Maybe subconsciously checking out when he had a mountain to climb, especially with his back troubles. That’s not to say that’s why he lost then - it’s not. But it could be a reason why some matches weren’t as competitive. He wasn’t going to run himself into the ground so he could live to fight another day.

At this stage I think Roger would be happy to be carried out of Wimbledon tomorrow if it meant another Wimbledon title and against Novak at that, given how close to the end he likely is.

None of this may matter if the second serves are being demolished and Novak red lines for 2 hours straight. But it’s a factor that could swing the other way for Fed just like it did vs Rafa at the AO. This match is more akin to that final than any match since. Federer in potentially a last final against a nemesis that’s dominated him in recent years.

I can’t wait.

Here's what Federer should do. He should make it a baseline oriented rally fest and try to hit Djokovic off the court. It worked very well in AO 2016 SF, why not try it again

inb4 I end up jinxing and Fed actually does this

They are ruining the center court. More than 4 hours and it hasn't even finished. Going into a 5th set

Womans doubles final is up next.

To me it feels like people are just trying to convince themselves that Djokovic has looked average this tournament so far when reality says otherwise.

Djokovic has looked just fine this tournament.
I don’t get it either. from what I’ve seen Novak is playing as well or better than in 2015. His return numbers are a lot better
