Wimbledon 2019 final - Novak's/Roger's turning point.

I don't know what it is. It is obvious that yesterday's final was special. Very special. Mental fortitude.
But I have this gut feeling that this will be the turning point to where Djokovic finally get's the respect he deserves from the tennis establishment, and fans alike.

Yesterday Djokovic showed that he is the dominant player over Federer. He scrapped the win against Federer. A match he probably had no business winning.

This match will damage Federer's legacy. Don't know why I feel that, but I have the feeling that fans will slowly start to turn. Federer has reached his peak in terms of fandom. The only way is down now, and I feel that this match will be the push.

Novak will fill that vacuum, to some extent.

I already see it in today's articles about yesterdays match. Even reluctant journalists in the past are now admitting that Novak is in the GOAT debate. Even die hard fans of Federer admit that his mental game is lacklustre.

It is all adding up in tennis fans minds.

Yesterdays match is historic in more ways than one.

Legends don't become less popular on their road towards retirement unless they do like OJ did. People are going to see the Federer loss and think "meh" and start cheering for Novak? More like because he at that age fought Djokovic that close he'll be more popular than ever because everyone wants to see him win one more and matches like yesterday make him ever more an underdog.

He was #1 before the match and a heavy betting favorite to win it.

You maybe mean as it unfolded ? If so, that’s more credit to Fed for being so close to winning the match. At almost 38 it’s remarkable what he’s still doing.

It was a good match.

I hope that Djokovic gets the respect he deserves from the crowds going forward but I doubt Federer will suffer with the crowds at all until the day he retires. As far as his legacy goes he took it to a younger ATG for 5 hours and probably should have won the match considering he had two match points on his serve. This adds to Novak's legend but I don't think it diminishes Federer.

Obviously I meant, as it unfolded.
Yes, his age played a role. But it doesn't take away from the fact he is so mentally weak against his greatest rivals. He had 2 match points, and serving like a beast throughout the match. And yet couldn't take it when it was dangled in front of him. That showed A LOT.

And it will matter going forward. Wins matter.

At this age, Roger reaching final itself is sort of a miracle. People who started watching Tennis in 2011 will not understand that though!
