A first 4R for both at the All England Club, Hurkacz hasn't lost a set or even his serve during his first 3 rounds, while Medvedev came back from 0-2 in sets for the first time ever.
It's also a first match between both.

Hurkacz might have a decent shot here. Maybe he doesn't quite have the fire power off the ground of Cilic, but I seems to me like he's been playing solid aggressive tennis including finishing a lot of points at net. Serving pretty well too.

Interesting matchup of two guys with similar games and builds, ironically born exactly one year apart. Medvedev is my pick, of course, but wouldn't be surprised if Hurkacz had a real go at him, perhaps taking it.

Haven't seen anything of Hurkacz didn't watch Miami either.

Here's hoping Medvedev finishes him in 3 or 4 so that he can send Federer home.

Aside from both being tall and having two handed backhands, their games have very little in common.

Hurkacz is one of the more attacking players on the tour, Medvedev is a pure grinder.

Shocking that Medvedev is once again shoved onto court 2 which used to be called graveyard of the seeds due to so many upsets over the years, yet old man Roger once again is on centre court.

Wimbledon clearly hoping that Dani is eliminated before reaching Roger in Q/F
Another version of the age-old Cesc Fabregas its a digrace, its an scandal, its a outrage rabbit punch at fedr’s CC assignment.

Here’s the facts:

1. fedr has won 8 titles; Meddie plays his first Manic Monday tomorrow. That’s a giant gap that supersedes the #2 vs #8 gap.

2. There can only be 3 matches each on the two show courts and Wimby has to avoid the sexism charges lofted at them a few years ago by prominent divas on the WTA side about court assignments. That means they have to go 3 each for ATP/WTA on CC and the now equally equipped but still dissed #1.

3. They have another multiple champion to take the other CC men’s slot. They have a former women’s champion in the mix too. Thankfully the draw allows Kerber to play the biggest WTA drawing card, allowing them to give a Court #1 assignment to their own Brit teen. They also have a WTA #1 player pitted against the recent RG champion. That adds up to five of the six matches.

Here’s where you’re right that Meddie is slighted but it’s not due to the fedr CC assignment:

#2 vs #14 on court #2 while #4 vs #16 goes on #1? That’s a digrace! Neither #4 or #16 have superior Wimby accomplishments nor are they Brits. Move Zed vs FAA to court #2 and let #2 Meddie play a very solid #14 Incredible Hurk!

Way too logical. And aren't you Canadian?

That was under old court 2 I believe; this is the new one.

Still, I agree that it's a shame they got pushed off the main two courts; this could be an entertaining match. Hopefully no rain tomorrow otherwise the court assignment will suddenly become much more relevant.

Hopefully Hurkacz just so that TTW babies cry a bit more.

Wimbledon doesn't care about Med and neither would all the people whining about court scheduling if he wasn't in Fed's quarter. They wouldn't care if he played every match on court 16 then.

Do you see Meddy causing problems for Fed in quarters if it happens?

Not sure about that. Hurkacz is pretty good at retrieving for his height just like Meddy, and often content to just put the ball back in play with little injection of pace, especially on an off day. That was the case throughout the whole horrendously bad period between Miami and Wimby.
Fortunately, where before when dominating points he was allowing weak floaters land in the court and the rally get reset, here he seems to be coming in much more and with good results.

I think any top 5 player would beat Fed in his current state.

Fed has plenty of fight left in him mentally (Murray too) but his body/legs are not there to support it.
That’s a good point. I think it’s very close who makes the final out of Fed, Meddy, Zverev and maybe Berra. All of them this year at Wimbledon are pretty close in performance.

There is NOTHING in Hurcakz game that can trouble Medvedev. Other than maybe aggression at the net.
Hubert LACKS the firepower to trouble Medvedev off the ground which Cillic had, and even Struff did. He also lacks the big forehand or the big backhand to put Medvedev out of position.
Med's court coverage and relentless defense plus ability to change direction on the backhand will be critical in this match.

If Med is fit (not suffering from the 5 setter) - I don't see Hurcakz getting the win.
Medvedev in 4 sets is the pick. I wouldn't be surprised if Med is mad at the organizers for putting him in court 2 and pulls a straight set win.

I guess you really don't like Med at all. Is that a not liking Russian players thing?
No offense intended with that. Just curious. Is it just because of the game or the nationality etc?

That analogy did NOT work. The poster who I quoted has said MULTIPLE times that he/she does NOT like Medvedev. Finds his game BORING etc etc.
In my case, I merely gave a pick who is likely to win based on matchup.
I could be wrong and maybe Hurcakz will win. But it has NOTHING to do with like or dislike.
Please understand the context of my quote before jumping to conclusions.

I find Medvedev's tennis incredibly BORING!

I also find John Millman's tennis pretty boring. He lives about 2km from where I'm currently sitting and from my limited contact I think he is one of the nicest blokes you could ever meet.

What it tell us?

Well that didn't take long for Hurk's serve to get exposed.

Hadn't dropped serve all week.
To be sure, Medvedev is NOT playing all that GREAT. He made 2 sitter errors on previous break points. Obviously Hurcakz even mugged up more, and Med lucked out with the break.
But if Med stands so far back for ROS and makes all these errors of the ground, he will be thrashed by Novak/Fed/Zed/Berr..

One of my absolute all-time favourites is Safin and I have cousins in Russia so take a wild guess.
