Who will win The Pointless Slam?

Defending champion Novak Djokovic, thanks to the decision to ban Russian (and Belarusian) players and the Zverev ankle surgery, inherits top seed due to the absence of #1 Daniil Medvedev and #2 Alexander Zverev.

Rafael Nadal, despite erroneous rumors circulated by talking heads at RG (shouldn’t Carillo be fired???), will play and seeks the third leg of a CYGS.

Andy Murray is in the draw on his ranking and he, like Nadal, seeks a third SW19 title.

Matteo Berrettini, fresh off titles at Stuttgart and QC, is showing the surgery on his wrist was a risk now being rewarded. Can he reach another Wimby final?

Carlos Alcaraz will continue his quest fo be a full fledged force on the tour after a full break from competition following his RG loss to Zverev.

Other seeds to consider include FAA, Hurkacz (just won Halle) and sneaky Marin Cilic on a rebound after a surprise RG SF result.

The official draw is conducted on Friday. Notable WCs include Stan Wawrinka, Ryan Peniston and Dutchman Tim van Rijthoven (Rosmalen champion).

Discuss or Disgust, particularly the fallout of the punitive action of the ATP to make all players successful at last year’s grass events in Britain collateral damage by not being able to recapture points this next fortnight.

Some of the more interesting results and matches in progress today for the final qualifying round:

Old school Wimby names Rosol and Sock are in, both in straight sets.

Novak is in a fifth set tussle with The Big Kozlovski. Ditto Jason Jung vs Huesler.

Seppi is trying to force a fifth set, in a TB right now vs Lucas Klein.

At least four seeds (Ruud, Sinner, PCB and Rune are the ones OTTOMH) have never won a SW19 main draw match. Any predictions as to who breaks into the winning column this year?

Novak is in! A tasty Novak vs Novak 1R matchup is a possibility.

Not so good news for Seppi and Jung. Fellow casualty Caruso can sing a funeral dirge for all of them.

Which is a tastier possible 1R:

Rosol vs The Nadal

or

Novak vs Novak

or

Kyrgiosity to kill a seed (he is an unseeded floater as of now, no?

The trouble with the ATP's action in making Wimbledon and the other UK grasscourt events zero pointers is that it really only punishes the players whose rankings can't benefit from playing them. Why should the players have to suffer because of Wimbledon's ridiculous and unjust ban on the Russian and Byelorussian players???

Berry very hurting…drops 1200 points from Wimby alone.

I don’t agree with the ban
Points are being awarded though for the other UK grass court events , the reason being that the Russian players could play elsewhere in these weeks

Points were awarded for last week's Queen's Club Championship tournament and are also being awarded for this week's meeting in Eastbourne.

Yet notably no Russian players were in the draw in either of them.
Not hard to understand this, bud: they can’t play in the U’K. tournaments at London and/or Eastbourne but they could still enter and did play Halle and/or Mallorca, earning the same level of points offered those weeks.

Maybe some rich pockets can organize and throw a competing grass tournament at slam level next year where the banished players could play for 2K points max in direct competition with AELTC. The Crown Prince Chopsalot of Saudi Arabia is probably salivating over that possibility.

Nadal with the draw from hell, former Wimbledon Finalist Cilic in Round 4 :(
Why can't Nadal's team fix this for once! Team Djokovic always looks after their boy :happydevil:

The draw:

I would have much preferred we played Alcaraz, to boost that H2H up to 3-1, Wimbledon is the place to meet him :happydevil:

I don't think Cilic will cause major problems. Couldn't even beat Med from 2-0 up last year.

I would say nadal has a good draw. Never met Cilic on grass but if hey gets pass Cilic he should beat whoever in the QFs. His toughest match will be Cilic before the semis.

Liam Broady just took a set off Cilic at Queens Last week and he lost in straight sets to Krajinovic in the SF. Krajinovic had never won a match on grass.

Nole projected draw:

R3: Kecmanovic/Millman
R4: Opelka/Basilashvili
1/4: Isner/Alcaraz/Murray
1/2: Hurkacz/Ruud

Isn't Alcaraz supposed to be his potential rival in the quarterfinals?
:D

Rafa definitely got a tougher draw than Nole but you never know, we've seen draws break open in the past before. Remember 2017 US Open was seen as a tough draw for Rafa and 2018 AO was originally a tough draw for Federer, but it ended up falling apart
