I'm probably going to catch a lot of disagreement here, but right now Alcaraz' ceiling is higher than Sinner, but his floor is also lower. Alcaraz can play undisciplined and fall behind Tiafoe, but he can also shift gears in the fifth and make the guy look lost. Sinner plays at a really high level and can make great shots, but doesn't have the peak of Alcaraz. Sinner also doesn't play terribly almost ever since last year. I hope to see another matchup!
Great post. Fully agree. The more steady player usually wins. And Sinner is generally more steady than Alcaraz. Sinner will improve and his peak would get higher. But Alcaraz really needs to stop the periods where he plays shambolic tennis with a very low floor.

Well we knew there was no chance of Tiafoe winning in 5, because Alcaraz is 11-1 in 5-setters and Tiafoe is 6-12 :)
Carlos = the Michael Jordan of tennis.

I couldn't have said it better myself!
Alcaraz is the closest thing the world has ever seen to MJ.

Never said he doesn't have a bright future. But he makes it much more difficult for him than it needs to be.
He keeps on going to 5 sets in matches, he should win sooner.
Credit where it's due - but IMO he is STILL NOT at the level needed to beat Sinner or Novak.
Sure - he can raise his level, but Carlos needs to be more efficient disposing mugs.
I've never like empty mugs. Entertainment is the draw.

I don't have a preference for either player. For me, it is like watching Borg vs. McEnroe or Becker vs. Edberg. I like both players for different reasons, so can just sit back and enjoy/admire the tennis, not worrying about who wins or loses.

What's the 5-set record of the big 3?

I know Alcaraz's record is crazy but it's low sample size. Curious what a high sample size 5-setter record is for an ATG

Kudos to Foe even though he ultimately faded as expected, while Alcaraz stepped it up at the right moment. Key moment for me - Foe up 30-0 on Alcaraz's serve at 5-5 in the fourth and he lost the game. He didn't have any break points, and he didn't make any crazy errors in losing the game (errors, yes, but nothing awful). But it's a moment where he needs to make something happen - that's what divides the higher tier players from the level below. He would have served for the match if managed to win that game, and Alcaraz was pumped after that hold after looking despondent for much of the third and fourth sets. Also good on Foe for winning his next service game - a tense one - to get to the tiebreak. But once he sort of blew that point at 0-1 in the tiebreak (I know that high volley was tougher than it looked, but still), the writing was on the wall. Kudos to Alcaraz for getting it together at just the right time, as champions do. Lots of people crapped on Alcaraz for his primarily poor performance, but now that he's through it, I think he'll kick it up a couple gears.

Alcaraz to the fourth round of Wimbledon and Spain to the semifinals of the Euro Cup.
Double sporting joy for the Iberian nation.
