Wimbledon Final: The pivotal third set: Djokovic peaked at the crucial time

S'in-net

Semi-Pro
The third set was key:

Federer dominated all the stats in a set of peak fluctuations
Federer peaked in that set at 3/2, 4/3 and 5/4. Clearly the better player, at this point
Djokovic peaked in that set at 4/5 (saving a setpoint with a first serve on the line), 5/6 and the resultant tiebreak

It's all about timing of the peaks, which won't be born out by the overall statistics (dominated by Federer);-

As soon as Novak held the first time in that set, I was worried. After the 2nd, I knew Fed had to keep putting the pedal to the metal. Novak was weak and it was time to go in for the kill. But he never made a move. Either Novak completely fixed what was wrong, or Fed was just waiting for mistakes that never came and played too passively.

tl;dr Novak was lucky after being thoroughly outplayed. Fraud slam.

Novak did to Fed what Fed used to do to Rafa and many others, which is save your energy for the tie-break.

I'm so glad i decided not to watch it live, or i would have had a heart attack.

Fed was passive till 3-3 (in the third ) .He hit so many UFE arhat stretch .

Novak had a resigned look and was there for the taking .

I don't know what "peak" means in tennis or sports is general.
It's not like players have "power levels" that can be measured.
Players sometimes play good points, so and so points and bad points, and the opponent has 50% of influence in this constant exchange.
Sometimes, at this level, it's down to good luck/bad luck or the specific context of every point, game or set.
It has little to do with "levels" in my opinion (as if "level" of play was something that exists in a vacuum and that you can increase or decrease at will).

Djokovic was lucky in the final. Fed outplayed him throughout the match. If there was a different scoring mechanism for tennis matches, then Fed would have won.
