Wimbledon members are enraged seeing Raducanu practicing wearing pink outfit in Wimbledon

I'm no clothes ****, I mostly wear t-shirts to work, but but there is little to no formality or decor left in this world. I am ok with Wimbledon keeping their tradition alive. It is a privilege to play there and you should adhere to their standards.

OP made a point, during the 2012 Olympics and in the lead up the rules were changed for the players to wear colours. Let's not act like this is new lmao.

Feels like another reason Murdoch media (news.com.au) want to hate a woman (Raducanu)

This isn't referring to olympics. Just because they made an exception for one special occasion, doesn't mean they automatically make exceptions for every other circumstance. Is there evidence they let men practice with colors and not women? Otherwise, what does the sex have to do with it?

Wow. Didn't players wear colourful apparel during London Olympics 2012?

Raducanu was only practicing, not playing official match.

Wimbledon should relax more I think.

You know who else wasn't this strict about the all-white rule before?

Wimbledon back in the day.

These outfits wouldn't fly today. Let's maybe calm down about "tradition" when talking about the all-white rule. It's gotten more restrictive over time, not less. It's hard for Nike and Adidas to come up with memorable outfits if they can barely add any color to it anymore.

All I know is, the all white is the best Slam tradition left.
It's been more strict in the last 20 years than it ever was before that. Remember Federer's shoes having orange colour underneath? That was deemed "unacceptable". It used to be "predominantly white", not "nearly all white".

It's like the All England Club made the white clothing rule at Wimbledon more strict at the same time when bowing and curtseying to the Royal Box on Centre Court ended after 2002 Wimbledon finished.

Those soles looked so good too lol.

Wimbledon needs to lighten up. Allow shirts at like they did in the 80s. I briefly tried to search old articles looking into if people back then were outraged at all this color invading the Wimbledon whites. Guess what, nobody cared. Let em wear em again.

Apparently, even practice sessions must adhere to some antiquated image standard. Then again, there are some current tennis "fans" here at Talk Tennis Warehouse who share a similar line of thinking when they relentlessly attack female players who do not act like safe, approachable country club "girls" of the Tracy Austin variety, or the fake version like another player from her general era.
It's clear bait. Their publications run on it.
..and they have enough troglodytes who feed on it, no matter their political leanings.
elitist snob game. It’s a big reason why tennis generally doesn’t attract a ton of people like other sports. To grow your audience you need to appeal to everyone. Not just the tea and strumpet elite tools
Indeed, and as pointed out above, tere are some current tennis "fans" here at Talk Tennis Warehouse who share a similar line of thinking when they relentlessly attack female players who do not act like safe, approachable country club "girls" of the Tracy Austin variety, or the fake version like another player from her general era, and you can guess which players fell into that category.

London can be like that unfortunately- I remember being called out at Moor Park by one of the stodgy old members caused I showed up to play a golf match and was wearing black ankle socks. That was a no-no, had to buy some white socks before I could head out in the pro shop.
Besides the great golf the club also has some very nice and not often used grass tennis courts.

Even though I’m not a Wimbledon member, I’m absolutely furious with her as well — but for doing absolutely nothing after winning the 2021 US Open.
She’s #55 in the world and only age 22 (in addition to being a former 16 year old). Your fury seems misplaced and counterproductive.

Dr Raul did basically nothing posting-wise since the Golden Covid Posting Era and I had to fight similar negative emotions and then seemingly out of no where the EV thread.

I must admit that I could forget about my frustration with Emma by visiting the EV thread sporadically. The problem is that the habit made me dependent on antacids, antiemetics, and also anti flatulence pills.

Yeah, it's totally understandable if this was during the tournament, but they really shouldn't be this strict over a private practice session.
If anything, the real scandal is that she's practising on grass when we have hard and then the clay season coming up. Not sure if that's the best way to get match ready...

It doesn't hurt at all to wear white, especially when you can wear any color at almost all other clubs. To me complaining about this rule shows the absolute worst kind of mentality, complaining without a reason, just to complain, human rats.

A guide to British tabloid writing:

"Allegedly" <= it probably didn't happen.
"Reportedly" <= it probably didn't happen.
"Sources say" <= it's made up.
"Enraged" <= someone was slightly upset.
"Fury as" <= people are a bit annoyed.

Various things don't add up about the Fail On Sunday story. It's March and playing tennis over in Britain is a struggle anywhere other than indoors because it's still cold, damp and windy. Why is this story being reported now? She's in America for the sunshine double, Wimbledon is months away and no-one's playing on grass courts at this time of the year. If a player shows up in non-regulation attire to a Wimbledon practice (and I'm not even sure that's a thing in the first place) we seriously think that someone wouldn't have had a quiet word* with her about it?

We're also asked to believe that a Wimbledon member said this: "It's so unfair. Who does she think she is? Just because she's won the US Open doesn't mean she can wear whatever she wants". That's how someone on Coronation Street talks.

It smacks of one of the racist misogynists that write for that paper seeing her all pink outfit from Indian Wells last year, thinking "imagine if she turned up like that at Wimbledon?" then writing an entirely made up story to that end.

Almost certainly utter ****e.

* where Brits will understand "quiet word" to mean "told in no uncertain terms not to do it again".

But isn't it a human rights violation to force an adult into wearing something when they are already sacrificing their body for your financial gain?
At least professional players should be exempt from it, because they are the only reason why anyone watches Wimbledon...
There aren't servants at Buckingham Palace

I trust none of the ingredients are on the Prohibited List. If psilocybin were included on the Prohibited List most of the posters in the EV thread would be busted for doping.

At some point regardless whether this is fake news or not, the clothing/outfit rule will change at some point in the future.

The only tradition I don't want to see change is best of 5 sets for Men at slams, that's my line in the sand :).

If Raducanu had just offered the club members a free bowl of their cherished strawberries & cream,
they would have said, "Go ahead and play, and please come back tomorrow! "
