Wimbledon Men's Doubles

Has anyone been able to watch the doubles matches? Anyone able to see what makes Pospisil and Sock such a great doubles pair (at least for this tournament)?

I think other than the Bopanna/Qureshi round 2 match, all the matches have also been won with ease (only other set lost in the whole tournament was to the No. 2 ranked Peya/Soares pairing).

They just beat Paes and Stepanek in straight sets! Paes and Stepanek were coming off a win over Nestor/Zimonjic, so this wouldn't have been an easy match by any means. But they seem to have won handily.

I wish they had better television coverage for doubles I knew more than from scoreboard watching. And I think the success of Pospisil/Sock has been overshadowed by all the other singles upsets in the tournament. They obviously aren't a pairing you would naturally think woud be this successful in doubles, but they must be playing with some great chemistry. Hopefully they do well against the Bryans in the final.

First set, Paes had more break point chances and also they won more points. Tie breaker was won 7-5. That gave Sock and Vasek the momentum they needed. No chance against Bryans.

As primarily a doubles player now, both mens and mixed, I wish we would see more doubles on TV. There is frankly a lot more going on in terms of tactics and intensity of rallies. Even mixed at grand slam finals levels has interesting tactics we don't see at club level. But that's not what the TV gods want us to get excited about!

I can see why a career playing doubles is less stressfull free and more fun than singles and there is pleanty of money to be made by a good doubles player Good to see Pospisil in a final at Wimbledon.

if this gives pospisil confidence he's going to need it - already slipped to around 90 in the word in singles and with all those points to defend by making montreal semis last year. he'll be back to playing challengers by the end of the year.

Pre cable days in the US, doubles was televised more often oddly enough. The importance of doubles has dwindled since the 1990's. In the decades prior, the top players were expected to play doubles. Not so much now.

Does anyone know if the men's doubles is on TV today? I see right now at almost 12 EST they are showing on ESPN a tape of yesterdays Joker's match. I think it is scheduled on CC right after the women's doubles final, which I don't see on either.

Yeah, I don't get it at all. Being an American network, you'd think they'd want to show the #1 ranked men's doubles team, and one of the best doubles teams ever, who also happen to be American.

In America, tennis is like #20 in sport ranking and Doubles is like #100 so they won't show the doubles. Most americans think Doubles is boring and is not really tennis.
That is why ATP thought of getting rid of all doubles few years ago.

Once again as many people have asked before,,,,, Doubles Volleying is completely different from Singles volleying. I learned this 1st hand when I was a junior.

I used to serve and volley all the time in singles so I automatically assumed I would be good serve and volley or just volleyer in doubles too. But BOY I was wrong. It took me like 3 month to learn how to volley in Double and what kind of volleys work and what kind of volleys does not work in doubles.

Thanks for the insight. I'm terrible at doubles so I guess I can definitely appreciate the great differences between singles and doubles.
