Hewitt has been shafted again. He deserves the #2 spot. For god's sake he's won the title.

What's up with putting Grosjean at 9 when he's ranked #26

2 semi's and winning queens is not bad for grass, don't you think? Wimbledon likes to tinker with the rankings anyway, if I recall they use a formula taking in to account your results over the last 2 years on grass to determine seedings. Grosjean is one of the few legitimate clay courters who can actually play on grass.

Does this mean Hewiit will be in Fed's half of the draw and not Roddicks. That would mean Roddick escapes and Hewitt has no chance of reaching the final, since Fed owns Hewitt who owns Roddick :)

I think he got seeded pretty HIGH ... for someone recovering from broken ribs. (I don't know if I could *take* the kind of discomfort of all the torsional movements of Serves, BHs, FHs and Overheads. OOooh, Boy!)

Grosjean's a pretty good player on Grass -- which is a unique surface. Therefore, he gets seeded higher than his "paper" ranking would suggest. They have a good system at Wimby.
___________

IMO, if anyone got the shaft, it's Ljubicic. He should be at least #13.

No. 3/4 can go in either half. 5/6/7/8 can go in any quarter, etc.

That's also known as a Federer SET UP!

Shafted? I think his ranking is pretty high for a guy with a major injury due to his own stupidity. Not that I don't like Lleyton because I think he's a great guy with a fabulous work ethic, but he made #1 twice only to drop off the radar entirely for a year...he's too unstable and it is my belief that he doesn't have a shot of winning the title this year.

People they actually have a formula for seeding the men (not sure about the women). Its not like they just draw from a hat.

Hewitt has a much better chance of winning the title than Roddick. At the end of the day, Hewitt is a more accomplished player who has been unlucky with injuries. Hewitt owns Roddick and also has a better record this year.

Why does Roddick deserve the #2?

Grosjean getting that far bumped up? I am sorry but that is a joke. Ok he did get to the last two semis, but his rank has been rapidly falling this year, and what makes him so astounding that he gets bumped up over a dozen spots from his ranking, even after the withdrawals; and the Williams sisters get no boost to their seeding from their ranking?!!?

Hewitt may own Roddick on hard courts, but on grass Roddick owns Hewitt. The only match they've played on grass, which was last year at Queens, Roddick won it.

In any case I'm just happy Rusedski wasn't seeded.

Can't wait to hear him whine and moan and make excuses as always.

They only seed the top 32 players in the entry rank (no formulas applied to determine who to seed).

He won't comment on it - anyone with any sort of brain would know that he wasn't going to be seeded, since he wasn't in the top 32. Duh.

Of players that should be seeded based on grasscourt skill but aren't - add in Karlovic...

If Hewitt's such a fabulous player who owns everyone except Federer,
please let this Aussie hero prove himself. The last 3 years, his opponents
have played much better each time they met him. What a coincidence.
He owns other players. Yes, escaping matches his opponents
choked away and after playing tiebreaks and 7-5 3rd sets with these 'lowly' opponents.

yeah , yeah , whatever......

I hope that everybody who has their panties in a twist over Hewitt's Wimbledon seed was equally outraged when he benefitted from the system last year.

Hewitt's ranking going into Wimbledon 2004: 10
Hewitt's Wimbledon seed 2004: 7

Hewitt has already benefitted enormously from his Wimbledon 2002 victory. It bought him a whole extra round before he had to meet Fed last year! However, it is now 2005 and the lease has expired on Hewitt's 2002 victory. Somebody with greater grass results over the past two years has eclipsed him according to the seeding formula. Now, much like his movement "hurt" other players in 2004, he will sit back while somebody with superior recent results flies past him.

Insofar as the seeding system at Wimbledon is valid, Hewitt's placement could not possibly make MORE sense!

I question how valid it is, but that's besides the point.

Why do I feel like this is the second time I posted that today? Oh, right. Because it is.

ridiculous. the whole point is that Hewitt does not need to prove himself. He has already proven himself by reclaiming the #2 ranking from Roddick, won more Grand Slams than Roddick, as well as perform better this year than ROddick has.

SO why reward Roddick? Oh yeah...he won Queens 3 time in a row. Hmmm i think i'd rather have Hewitts record of success.

Not only did Roddick win Queens 3 times in a row, but over the past two years he's been in the semifinals and final at Wimbledon. His recent grass court results are clearly more relevant than something Hewitt did years ago.

Hewitt's bagel eating is something to be proud of. He'll reach his peak performance while the horrible players below him should resign to the fact that they're useless.

Congrats, fan boys.

Here's how i would have seeded the mens draw.

Seeding for the Gentlemen's Singles:

1. FEDERER, Roger (SUI)
2. RODDICK, Andy (USA)
3. SAFIN, Marat (RUS)
4. NADAL, Rafael (ESP)
5. HEWITT, Lleyton (AUS)
6. NALBANDIAN, David (ARG)
7. HENMAN, Tim (GBR)
8. ANCIC, Mario (CRO)
9. JOHANSSON, Joachim (SWE)
10. DAVYDENKO, Nikolay (RUS)
11. JOHANSSON, Thomas (SWE)
12. HRBATY, Dominik (SVK)
13. GROSJEAN, Sebastien (FRA)
14. DENT, Taylor (USA)
15. STEPANEK, Radek (CZE)
16. GASQUET, Richard (FRA)
17. LJUBICIC, Ivan (CRO)
18. CORIA, Guillermo (ARG)
19. FERRERO, Juan Carlos (ESP)
20. ROBREDO, Tommy (ESP)
21. KIEFER, Nicolas (GER)
22. HAAS, Tommy (GER)
23. NOVAK, Jiri (CZE)
24. YOUZHNY, Mikhail (RUS)
25. LOPEZ, Feliciano (ESP)
26. SODERLING, Robin (SWE)
27. CANAS, Guillermo (ARG)
28. PUERTA, Mariano (ARG)
29. FERRER, David (ESP)
30. MASSU, Nicolas (CHI)
31. GONZALEZ, Fernando (CHI)
32. VOLANDRI, Filippo (ITA)

It's REALLY easy to understand how the seeds fell as they did. They recycled the same formula from last year.

I don't see where the outrage is coming from, unless it's from a lack of understanding of the system. Or a pure hatred for the system, which I actually do understand.
