Yes!! Dimitrov grabs the 1st set. How tough that was. He's gonna have to pretty much GOAT to grab the 2nd now. Edge of the seat stuff.

Some impressive initiative being shown in this match.

You might call it ''grass-court tennis''.

6-3 *1-0 Dimitrov

That forehand to force the error just then from Dimitrov looked average enough but was actually brutal.

Pretty much the same feeling I get with Nadal all throughout the French Open. Such suspense!

It's just needless facetiousness. Dimitrov isn't some regular achiever at Grand Slams yet. You just can't take these wins for granted. He had a promising showing at the AO this year and then flunked at RG with a 1R loss. Respecting the journey is important.

Nicely said. I ignore the troll.

getting laid.

Now that's a joke! He's not the greatest virgin of TTW for nothing.

Yep, new thread is now required. Who does that leave, Nadal? Let's hope he crushes Rosol in 3 then.

I agree completely. Every great player has gone through this phase in their career. It all counts.

Vs nobodies.

What can I tell you vero? You've been a tennis fan for a long time, have you not? You should know by now how Grand Slam draws are constructed. The high end players are going to get these types in their 1st and 2nd round matches most of the time. If you're bored, switch it off and go do something.

Great pass from Grisho. He's hit some absolutely wicked groundies in this match but I'd like to see more net attacks.

Some are. Wish Novak was part of that lucky lot.

This Saville Chao was the same guy who beat Liam Broady here in the boys final in 2011.

Not that I need an incentive, but C'MON Dimitrov!

You're right. It's not always like this. You can get a Bouchard draw and get a player like Hantuchova in the 1st round.

Then again, in Djokovic's first Slam title win he had Benjamin Becker and Simon Bolelli in the 1st and 2nd rounds. He then got a fairly green Sam Querrey in the 3rd round before having to face Hewitt in the 4th round, just like Dimitrov will likely get Ferrer in the 4th round. What I'm trying to say is, it'll inevitably get tough for Dimitrov.

BTW, how did Raonic look in his first match? I didn't see any of it.

Solid. Better than I expected on his worst surface. He was serving well (surprise, surprise) and he was dialed in to his quick-strike game. All in all, a very routine match that at no point did Ebden really sink his teeth into.

I heard radio Wimbledon say he was very comfortable and won with varied play on the back of his usual high standard of serving.

Both he and Dimitrov are guys who, on paper, should do well on grass if one just looks at them at the superficial level, but Dimitrov has had questionable movement and balance for his whole career, which he's now rectifying as a result of major strength training and core work -- look at the dividends its paying. Raonic is a natural risk taker and will take his chances on the return and go big, but his return game is rather mediocre. Dimitrov's is not great but Raonic's is outright mediocre, and you need more than just a killer service game to win Wimbledon. Wimbledon is a tournament that both men could win in the future.

Kuznetsov third set point now in first set against Ferrer... again saved, good first serve from Ferrer.

Oh you're right. He got #81, 70 and 62 at AO 2008. Almost the same thing as #236. Now he gets top 50 players in early rounds. Promotion I guess ;)

How much does Milos weigh? He looks like a stout fellow. Could that contribute to some of what's held him back on grass?

Why on Earth did they put Dimitrov on centre?

Barring Queens and the Wimbledon junior final what is his grass court pedigree?

Ferrer should be on either Centre or Court one!

That's the strange thing isn't it. At the superficial level it's easy to make the assumption he should do well on grass but so far it just hasn't proved to be the case. I think his natural willingness to take risks will come through for him in the end and see him through to some deep runs at Wimbledon in the future.

I need to actually watch his next match because I'm just working off assumptions at the moment. Perhaps his movement is clumsy on the grass.
