Why on Earth did they put Dimitrov on centre?

Barring Queens and the Wimbledon junior final what is his grass court pedigree?

Ferrer should be on either Centre or Court one!

That's too sensible. Dimitrov is the new fashionable hysteria. He dates Sharpie. He's cool. No justification needed.

Wow. What a point there. Great initiative shown from both as Dimitrov escapes from having to face a BP and holds after passing off an aggressive return approach from Saville.

That's the strange thing isn't it. At the superficial level it's easy to make the assumption he should do well on grass but so far it just hasn't proved to be the case. I think his natural willingness to take risks will come through for him in the end and see him through to some deep runs at Wimbledon in the future.

I hope so! His quick-strike game is tailor-made for the grass, in my opinion. He probably needs to improve his movement though.

Yeah, it's OK to have that ambitious nature but one needs to be able to facilitate that ambition through adequate enough mobility.

So this is very off topic, but I don't really want to make a thread for this and clog things up. Random thoughts.

Who was that great american kid a few years back who used S&V a lot against Roger at the US open? And where is he now?

Oh you're right. He got #81, 70 and 62 at AO 2008. Almost the same thing as #236. Now he gets top 50 players in early rounds. Promotion I guess ;)

Okay, so maybe not the best example. Saville is a young up-and-comer, though, whose ranking doesn't really reflect his abilities yet.

We could go back and forth all day, but why bother? My point remains that sometimes players get very fortunate draws. Remember that Nadal got Ginepri (Ginepri on clay!!), Thiem, L. Mayer and Lajovic en route to the quarters at the French Open. It happens and it's a very trivial thing which we shouldn't trouble ourselves about. If Dimitrov wins this title, he WILL have earned it. The quality of competition he'll have to face in the latter rounds will more than compensate for the tame draw he's getting in the early rounds.

Let's just see what happens.

Courageous, admirable and also highly adept play by Saville to save the break points, with the SnV plays.

Kuznetsov - 27 winners in one set and 11 UE. Loses set (he had his set points, didn't take any).

I thought my score thingy was malfunctioning when I read those stats. Nuts!

He's been playing a great match but Ferrer has been rock solid and clutch. Producing so many winners against Ferrer in a set, even on grass, is a feat in itself. Shows how difficult it is to break Ferrer down...

Dimi about to oust #236 in straight sets. What a surprise. What a feat. What a hero.

Now that we got the clown matches out of the way on main courts, let the real thing start. I'd love to see actual competition for a change!

Great 2nd round opponent for Grigor. Definitely not a pushover opponent in Saville who played some great points and competed. Dimitrov was solid and professional.

What do you have against Dimi vero? Is it just because his game is so similar to Federer's?

I don't get it. Trying to be reasonable with vero but it doesn't seem to be making a difference. The real hero Nadal has had his fair share of clown matches too.

Oh well, the rest of us like what we see. :)

I have nothing against Dimitrov himself. I have a grudge against the stupid HYPE (Dimi won Queen's vs a mega weak field) and the nerve of the programmers to put that guaranteed dud (top 20 vs #236) on centre court when almost any other match today would have been a thousand times more exciting. Title holder AND Brit, I can understand but this was just plain ludicrous. If switching to Nike gives you free pass to center court, then there is nothing left to this sport than money and it's not good news.

Solid performance and win for Dimitrov who showed off some slick skills. Saville has guts.
