Cilic's serve is huge now, actually matches his height when before he'd stay in that 120-125 mph range.

He's always had a really good serve. Guys like Janowicz and Delpo should have better serves for their height.

I don't because I've already accepted the inevitability of him losing before final this year. I've made my peace with it. So it will be either "as expected" or "fantastic surprise".

I pretty much expect Djokovic at his best at the hard-court Slams. Nothing wrong with that. Djokovic has done well to be competitive on every surface but he doesn't have to be expected to win every time at Wimbledon. I really want to see him win the US Open and re-establish his dominance on the hard-courts.

By the way, Cilic takes it 7-6[8] 6-4 6-4. He's the first man through to the quarterfinals. Good for Marin!

It was decent, but not great. This is the first time he's in top 5 (or even top 10) for ace leaders on the year and he's going to blow by his previous best ace total of ~440 (already at that number in 41 matches). This could be a difference maker in gaining that confidence against the top guys and avoiding the chokes that he is known for.

Hopefully Cilic and Dolgopolov can knock Gasquet and Fognini out of the top 16.

Anderson or Bautista can knock out Youzhny.

Huh, Janowicz has a big serve. It's just not as consistent as Milosh/Isner/Karlovic.

I meant better not bigger. Do you ever look at stats from a Janowicz match? He does not get that many aces when compared to let's say Isner/Raonic/Karlovic even Anderson/Cilic/F. Lopez. He has a big serve but he doesn't do much with it, not to mention usually the same number of aces as DF in his matches.

Yeah, sometimes you don't know if Jerzy's serve is an asset or a liability.

More idle chit chat calling for a shot clock to enforce time between points. The shot clock revived the NBA when it was introduced 60 years back. A similar effect is expected in tennis. Of course, nothing will get done as it will impact the current crop of slow top ranked players.

Man, hopefully the rain stops, or the second week is going to be totally screwed.

I don't understand why they keep this middle Sunday tradition at Wimby. I know it's a deal they made with the neighborhood (or something like that), but it's a huge issue.

Murray and the centre court people should be OK, but everyone else is screwed unless it's a quick break.

Cilic has a great serve and a pretty good groun game. He should be top 7 easily with these attributes

I know the constant rain delays are annoying. I get it. But really, players are used to dealing with it so the only people who this is really bothering are fans with a tennis appetite.

What I'm getting at is: don't people like that Wimbledon is different? Don't people like the variety in this wonderful sport, that you have a very modern Grand Slam in Australia and a very historical one at Wimbledon? No ads, no gimmicks, no bells and whistles. That's what makes Wimbledon, Wimbledon.

I don't know, this is just one of the reasons I love tennis in general. The variety and diversity of the players, surfaces and events.

I don't think people generally have any issues with the traditions, even the middle Sunday one. Not sure how you came to that conclusion.

The main concern people here have, and myself as well, is that even with rain delays, the organization should try to avoid unfair disadvantages to some players as much as possible.

The fact that 2 R4 matches were scheduled on CC and therefore basically guaranteed to finish, while 2 R3 matches were on other courts and therefore could've been delayed due to rain, is what bothers most (including me).
Sure, I understand that Wawrinka-Istomin or Lopez-Isner are not exactly draw you'd want on CC, but still...

USO , in recent times did play Novak Djokovic, Nadal and Federer at Louis Armstrong , when there were delays.

All 3 are the top attractions there.

It is plain cheating to complete a 4R when a 3R is under progress.

Give the affected ticket holders an option - either take it or reschedule it for the next year.

Lopez is at a huge disadvantage when he is in the best of his form here.

Traditions are traditions because they are kept!

They all play a little latter, what's the big deal?

Well, it's a big deal for players who may have to play every single day of week 2.

It's just weird to me that the weather is often so bad, and they have a free day to catch up on matches, but they can't take advantage of it. It would certainly level the playing field some.

Just been at Wimbledon today. Do they not do the whole fourth round on the Monday now, or is it an issue with the weather and subsequent scheduling that has meant Federer and Nadal play tomorrow? I wouldn't be happy being either of them having to play back-to-back best-of-5 matches.

It is directly related to weather issues.

Yeah, some R3 matches in Fedal's half got rained out on Saturday which is why Fedal will play tmr.

I'm so confused though, because the only 3rd round matches I could see were Lopez- Isner and the end of the Nishikori match which were played today, and Wawrinka's match. Federer and Nadal are playing none of the winners of these matches in the 4th round. I'm guessing women's matches having to be played is what has done it then?

I think it was more about keeping it fair for all players in the bottom half that their R4 takes place on the same day albeit a day later than the top half.

Congrats to Dimitrov on another great, straight-forward win and his 2nd career Slam QF. I know Mayer wasn't the best opponent but he also earned it somewhat with a tough 5 set win over an in-form, scary Dolgopolov.

This is where it gets real for Dimitrov. He's got the defending champion and probably the current favourite in the quarterfinals. Now is when he has to prove himself.

awesome. Can't wait to see him against Novak.

This second week is looking better and better. With most of the top seeds still remaining, we're gonna see a lot of great match ups. the top 4, dimitrov, nishikori, tsonga, raonic, wawrinka, cilic. Not to mention mayer and robredo, the games between them and the 2 swiss powerhouse is gonna be awesome too!

Ridiculous scheduling continues. They put Fed on Court #1 and two women's matches (one QF ) on Centre Court.Clearly favors Nadal over Fed.

An outrage, disgrace and scandal all at the same time.

You see outrage, disgrace and scandal everywhere don't you? Clearly, the organisers put Fed on Court 1 because it's a well known fact that Wimbledon has always hated Federer!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I just don't understand the reasoning behind such decision. It simply makes no sense to schedule matches like that.

Did you see Djokovic today?

As you are a big fan of his I assume you did so how can someone playing near perfect tennis for large parts of the match, who is one of the all time greats and in his prime be deemed to have zero chance of reaching the final?

Maybe the organisers like to mix things up a little and give some lower ranked players a chance to play on Centre Court? After all, why should only the big names hog the main arena all the time? Court no.1 is a fine court and no disgrace to play on whatsovever. It's not like they scheduled Fed to play on an outside court somewhere!
