It’s good to see Gulbis at a high level again but Nishikori has been rock solid and is playing the best he ever has on grass. He isn’t going to gift Gulbis anything. I say Nishikori in 4.

Lord Gulbis in 5. I feel that the Lord's got a god-mode lurking inside of him that cannot possibly be matched. As long as he can keep his forehand under control, he will be a threat till the end. The man was going toe-to-toe with Zverev from the baseline, and didn't blink (apart from the 3rd set). His drop shot will expose Nishikori's lack of ability at the net, just as it did Zverev.

Not even trolling... Lord Gulbis possibly presents the biggest threat to Federer on the bottom half of the draw, alongside Nadal (big question mark as well) -- simply because of the lack of certainty surrounding him, and everyone knows his potential. He can be playing just as tight of sets with someone ranked 100+ as anyone in the top 10.

Even though I am a big Gulbis fan, i hope Nishi wins this one because he has a better chance of beating Nole in the quarters than The Lord.
Anything to keep Nole out of Rafa's way :D:D

Gulbis had MP on Joe Kovic at Montreal '15 when he was slumping and Ultron was unbeatable. Ninjakori is Joe Kovic Lite. Even in his weakened comeback mode, the former HCOTW is 2-0 h2h. USO'14 is all Ninja has.

I think you're scared Nadal may have to face The Lord.

No offense but I’m not a fan of these type of poll result options. I think this match is a toss up. Neither of these guys have excelled on grass and they’ve both been outve sorts for quite a while. They’ve also only played once. Would love to see Gulbis come through because I think he has the potential to go farther with his game on.

Nishikori has zero chances of beating Djokovic. Gulbis, in contrast with Kei, doesnt Crap his pants when Djokovic appears in the other side of the net

Djoker has beaten Kei the last 13 times they've played. That's insane dominance. But Ernie played Novak at last year's Wimbledon and lost easily in straight sets. I don't think either one is beating him.

Actually Ernie's match is second up on Court 2 after some women's match. Fed's match is first up on Centre Court. ;)
LiveScores shows a 1300 GMT start, the same time slot as fedr and as early as any ATP start time. I guess they start outer court matches before CC???

No offense taken but how would design a poll? You have six options for real match results and the max four extra for fun with the added benefit of choosing something in addition to your real pick (multiple votes allowed).

As to "out of sorts for a while", that's an understatement for Gulbis. For Kei, not so much...he made the final at M-C and 4R RG to lose to finalist Thiem in 4. As fits his resume, he is dangerous when healthy.

Agree wholeheartedly that Gulbis will present more danger if he advances. Pulling for the upset here!

Man of steel glass in 3 tight sets.
Nishikori never reached a QF here. He will do it for the first time if he wins today.

Pliskova vs Bertens will drag on while St. Peter oversees his Pearly Gates construction crew outside Court 2. They are about done so Kei will be able to face The Lord.

Damn, Gulbis is playing so well. He's playing within himself. Not going for too much. His variety is amazing, also. Slices off both sides. Block forehands.

I think this is the best form I've ever seen Gulbis in.

It's gotta suck to have your body break down on you all time.

Trainer is off and Kei continues. But for how long?

Nishikori can't get into any of Gulbis' service games. He hasn't gotten to a break point yet. He's not returning as well as he did against Kyrgios and he's also too erratic.

match stats says gulbis is winning ~90% on both 1st and 2nd serve. is that typo?

Gulbis is moving well for someone who had to go through quallies and has already played a few 5 setters here.

That is ridiculous and it's probably not a typo because he is hardly winning points on Gulbis' serve. If he doesn't change that quickly then he cannot win this match. I expected better from him after his amazing level last round. He has poor body language as well.
