Win an ATP Title, Then Lose Your Next Match

See Tom's criteria for admission to the WATLYNM resort below (thread post #1,301 of Sept. 17, 2022). NO Challengers, NO WTA, NO juniors.

Does winning a challenger title than losing your next match count for anything? If so Andy Murray needs to book a stay, at least for the afternoon.

Where is the room for Sabalenka?

I’m sure it is ready. Great match by Kenin to get Sabalenka the reservation.
The way the thread title is worded:

1. to indicate male, not female competition. I don’t follow WTA so if an enthusiast for the women’s game wants to spin off a WTA version, please be my guest.

2. to eliminate junior matches, even at slam level. Again I don’t follow the juniors thoroughly enough to sanction WATLYNM visits for the kids.

3. to eliminate Challenger level matches. This is a third level I don’t pay enough attention to for WATLYNM credentials to be certified.

4. to eliminate the “gift” victory in competitions that don’t feature an open draw AND (in this case) the potentially very tough assignment sometimes posed by DC/ATP Cup/Tour Finals matches that follow a title run. A perfect example: should we have ragged on Jack Sock for following his Bercy title with a loss at The Finals to fedr in 2017? Probably not, especially in the light that he made SFs a few days later. Would Alcaraz have faced a top 13 player in his first match after a title run if the second tournament featured an open draw?

Carlos can stay at WATLYNM but we won’t freshen up the Grand Slam Suite for him. We had no complaints from him after his stay in a regular suite in April following a persuasive presentation by Sebastian Korda in M-C. This was encouraging news on Korda’s improvement in completing the pitch of the WATLYNM after almost closing the deal in IW vs The Nadal. It was indeed a proud moment that Sebbie could learn the close so quickly after that epic fail.

When I saw Lajovic's name, i knew this could be a very dangerous match for Sinner as a first match going into the tournament.

I thought the same thing, especially after seeing that Lajovic went through two matches of qualifying and then beat Cerundulo in the first round. Lajovic is not only a tough veteran player, but he's used to the Cincinnati conditions and the lighter balls they are using, while Sinner arrived late and was prime for an upset given the inevitable letdown and lack of local prep.

The Rogers Cup winner and the runner up both out early. No big surprise.

Lot of entrants recently! Though Shelton and Bublik are pretty understandable, both were facing top 10 opponents in their first rounds back.
Yeah, really tough/unlucky draws for both of them. Especially Shelton, since he is up to something like 15th in the live rankings, but they didn't come into effect in time to help him here.

Seems like nobody was at the front desk and poor Alejandro Tabilo spent the night in the lobby.

Rublev close to booking a repeat stay but there was only one couch in the lobby and it was already taken.
Tabillo forgot his credentials and nobody at the front desk believed him. Sad. Had to stay outside in the cold.

Not sure there needs to be a thread for this.

Players are exhausted after a tournament win, physically and emotionally, then there is a quick turnaround to play again immediately. Pretty easy to understand why a player wouldn't be at their best.

Decent chance that Jordan Thompson drops by after his marathon stint at Los Cabos. A bit surprised he's still in the draw for Acapulco but maybe withdrawing this late has repercussions.

since @stringertom is on a leave of absence, I propose extending a trial membership to Katie Boulter after her 1R loss to Giorgi after winning in San Diego. We'll need to wait until Friday to see if her boyfriend joins her since he has a 1st round bye but we could have our first couple checking in together ... ever?

The biohazard deep cleaning crew has been put on standby.

I wanted to post here about Boulter, because I loved seeing her get schooled by Giorgi, but I realized this is for the ATP.

As you said, though, if it's a couples room, she should get a mention. Taro Daniel hasn't been that great lately, but he can have his moments. Finger's crossed.

someone please let Berrettini know we're down to frozen pizza and canned spaghetti? the lodge's dining options have been shabby since the original proprietor departed in a hurry, leaving unpaid debts with the regular suppliers.

good thing Hurkacz declined Draper's insistent presentation as I don't know what frozen/canned Polish food even looks like.
