Hah. What a fake #1 seed. Hasn't played in a while, and is having a terrible year. But hey, maybe he can pull it off. Anyway, I'm interested in Christian Harrison being in the qualies. What if he made it through, and played Ryan?

What if he got double breadsticked by ERV?

That has nothing to do with it. I would only be interested if Christian played Ryan; otherwise I don't really care what happens. So...cool? I don't see why getting double breadsticked by him has anything to do with it.

The top 3 and Benneteau made it through qualies. No real surprises. Nice to see Christian Harrison playing competitively. Maybe he'll be able to pick up a few points in the fall.

Here's some results from today:

Kamke d. Falla 6-1, 6-0
Sweeting d. Rochus 6-3, 7-5
Blake d. Kukushkin 7-5, 6-1
Andreev d. Tomic 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4

Young took the first set off Berrer 6-3. Currently on serve at 2-3 after they traded breaks early in the 2nd.

I have to admit, I am really starting to learn a little more about what these pros go through in their career.

Kei Nishikori played three matches, and won three matches, just to get in the main draw, and now he's about to get wiped off the court if he doesn't recover.

Nishikori is the higher ranked player. He only had to play qualies cause he didnt enter by the deadline. After that, its either WCs or qualies.

Wow 21 is sooooo bad.

In fairness Roddick has a pretty good chance at winning this tournament.

the 250 points may not seem like much, but it would spring board him from 21 back up to 16 or 17.

Also, last year he lost in the 2nd Round of the US Open, so if Andy can get to the 4th Round or QF's he could be in position to push for the Top 10 by years end.

Thanks for that cam link, what a joke of a pro court, looks like a court juniors would play on with stands on the one side. A close match, but no surprise, a loss for DY.

DY was down a set and a break early in the second, and then down a break in the third, so good for him for staying in it and having a close match. Of course, it's still a loss, but he showed some fortitude.

Whose gonna win this tourney?

I say Roddick has a good chance. He's kind of a weak top seed, but this is a pretty weak field.

Plus #2 Melzer is already out.

Kinda surprised to see Harrison get rolled

This is definitely a weak field in this tournament. You've gotta think Roddick can pull it off. I also think Davydenko has an outside chance if he can maintain consistent form. Baghdatis is another outside candidate, but again, I'm used to these kind of guys being top guys. That they aren't anymore...

Anyone else watching Andy rocking the hat backwards? I haven't seen that since vids from the Hewitt Rod match in 2001.

Serious wheels from ARod on that pickup.

He is playing well. Pushing 50% of shots, but definetly hitting alot deeper it seems to keep people off the baseline. Like the strategy, keep it going.

Just got home from a full day at WS...

Highlights: watching Roddick play well
Jamie Murray is one he'll of a doubles player...and has a great on-court attitude...
Dimitrov/Young match - some great tennis, not to mention seeing GD's Aussie coach yelling atbYoung when he questioned a call (they weren't playing on Center Court, the only court with Hawkeye)
Isner playing well in front of his (almost) hometown

Lowlights: some REALLY bad WTF shots in multiple matches, in particular, James Blake :( and Ryan Harrison
Ryan Harrison's on-court behavior, especially his racket toss at the always critical 2-2 score in the second set :-?

No telling who's going to win this thing...if Roddick plays well, he'll do fine. Davydenko also played well. Isner wants to play well also. Let's just hope Irene doesn't delay the finals!

PS - there were no effects of the earthquake at the tournament site.

Extremely disappointed with Blake and Harrison, they should be playing each other next, instead they go to the US Open with bad losses, were both probably thinking about it anyway, but should have had better showings than they did.

Blake was broken in the first game...Haase won the toss and elected to receive...smart move...
James was the crowd favorite, but just struggled...badly.
Harrison is simply a head case. Until he learns to control his emotions, he won't amount to much of a pro tennis player, IMO.

BTW, Haase seems like a really good guy. After his match, he came to the side court to watch Harrison/Duclos. He sat with the rest of us and (scouted?) the players.

Yeah, I agree, he has to relax for sure, I think it will come with maturity hopefully. Watched a little on the webcam and he was doing the, I'm gonna throw my racket, but not really, nonsense, which is stupid.

Harrison has a really bad attitude from what I've seen.. was hoping for a kid with a better demeanor ala Sampras.

It was funny watching his Cincy match with Gimelstob praising his maturity to be let down by his own comments moments later. Maybe he will be a hothead who can get fired up like McEnroe, we'll see I guess.

No, Mac was one of a kind, there hasn't been a champion since Mac with that attitude, Safin won some and was #1, but of course had he been level headed he would have been so much better, and that is the way it is, you freak out and it affects your game for the worse, all the greats, Sampras, Fed, Nadal, Agassi, they are cool, calm and collected and that is the only way to be a champion, otherwise, be happy with mediocrity.
