Winter

NRMM

Semi-Pro
I live in the nothern part of the UK and when it gets chilly at night I struggle with some of my equipment.. either feels too bulky or then still feel the cold... is there any baselayers you'd recommend as well as leggings to wear under shorts? Sometimes if gets to zero degrees pretty much... and most of the time, no indoor option available... I'm a nike fan to be fair but not sure whether they have effective equipment for such cold humid weather... cheers

I wear Nikepro baselayer top + cotton t-shirt during winter. Warm-up with training jacket first.

For legging, any runner tights would do. I bought a Karrimor one and it works fiine.

are you talking about tights which go under shorts?
I have some which are just compression tights, and they do not work well, can you post a link to what you are referring to?

Compression tights are not full length, correct? Yeah I have a couple of those and they don't keep your legs warm for sure. They are more useful for preventing/relieving muscle ache.

I got one from Sports Direct, can't remember which one now. Try here:

You can get full length compression leggings, but they are essentially spandex, and have no warming qualities

For really cheap option, I would go with Uniqlo Extra Warm baselayer, be it tops or bottom.

Other option is wearing merino baselayer, light weight or midweight, then layer with normal jersey to help with sweatwicking. Last top is a softshell like Patagoni Adze or Marmot ROM or a outdoor synthetic insulation jacket like The North Face Kilowatt Hybrid / TNF Ventrix.

For pants, i like coldgear legging and pants from Under Armour. Aero Tech Design also have pants that are designed for winter subzero cycling. It great for playing tennis because it blocks wind.

I do a fair amount of cold weather exercise and I'm a fan of the Adidas Climawarm series. When it gets really cold I use a down vest from New Balance that's great, and running tights underneath track pants. Also, a good guideline for me is to dress for temperatures 20 deg F above the actual temperature.
