With who does Fed practice?

Now that Fed has 4 days to rest and practice before his next match, I'm wondering with who does he hit with to hone his strokes, especially now that he is coachless. Since only those in the top 100 can even make it worth his while (much less challenge him), does he have a pre-arranged agreement with fellow players who are no longer in the tourny? Any thoughts?

Well I watched him practice the other day at Wimbledon, and he was practicing with this guy in the blue shirt...

Sorry it's a **** photo, I only took photos of Federer so it's the only one I have of this guy, I'm not sure who it is, Yves Allegro perhaps?

Thanks, I'm sure the original poster cares if some weirdo corrects him when his question is about tennis.

Every day's a school day. If the OP, you, or anyone else learns something new about the English language then Slazenger's post was worth it. Get over it.

It's not up to him to, some people could take that as an insult, so he needs to get over the fact he's not an English teacher.

How could you take that as an insult? To use "whom" in the sentence is a point of fact. How do you know he's not an English teacher?

How? For example, English is not my first language. Say I'm talking to someone and that person corrects me, I WILL take that as an insult, he doesn't have the right to correct me. I worked hard to be able to speak English like I can right now and I'm not gonna have some jackass try to correct me. Also, even if he is an English teacher, this is not a class room!

People take things differently, I guess. If I'm speaking French, for example - a language I didn't start learning until I was 9 or 10 - I like having people correct me. I worked hard to get to the point where I can speak it well, but there's always room for improvement. Particularly when it comes to slang or more common phrasings of things.

but surely people correcting you is good because it helps you get better at the language you chose to learn in the first place. Also, i am not suprised Federer practices with Mirka since she used to be a pro.

Most of the practices i have watch he has been hitting with a junior player, Fed doesn't really take his practice sessions all that seriously. more of just a tune up for him.

Yep, that's Yves. Was this on Wednesday? If so you must have been standing right next to me.

Yup! I saw him practising last monday and he was with Allegro, Federer absolutely destroyed him in a Tie Break they played lol. The crowed that gathered to see him practise was bigger than the one for the Dulko match that was on the same court an hour later.

but wouldnt you want to improve? isnt that the point? usually when i correct people its not to be a jackass but so they can do it better next time. ya digg?

I thought allegro is his traveling hitting partner, no? That's why you often see them entered in doubles together.

You apparently know little about tennis. Lots of pros practice with anyone at the tournament, even juniors. The difference between the top 10 and the top 100 is pretty little... most of it has to do with mental toughness and playing big pts.. Pretty much anyone in the top 200 can hit a winner from anywhere on the court so posing a "challenge" isnt an issue.

For example, during the FO.. fed hit with a few lefty juniors to prep for the Nadal final.

I remember seeing him (from 4 meters, don't think this will be any more possible this y ear with all the extra security) practicing here in Montreal 4 years ago with Niemeyer, who was then the top Canadian.

He was pretty casual about it. I don't think he's too fussy about whom he plays with, with one exception: preparation for Roland Garros, when he prefers lefties. He should perhaps do the same at W:)

This is a run-on sentence.

I worked hard to be able to speak English like I can right now and I'm not gonna have some jackass try to correct me.

Work harder, maybe?

Also, even if he is an English teacher, this is not a class room!

It's 'classroom.'

That is all.

British people make lame athletes. the only exception is beckham.

So many things wrong with this sentence and it only took me 2 minutes to find it. Hypocrite!

errr.....what was this thread about again?

Please correct this sentence. I do not believe 'errr' is a word nor do I believe the continuous abuse of the elegant period should be included in your sentence. Also, capitalization is your friend. When you fix your sentence you will be given the answer to your question.

If you really think the difference from the top 10 and top 100 is little i think you need to watch some more tennis

Toughen up. If you take someone correcting your grammar, esp. in your second (third? meh?) language, as an insult, you're gonna have a rough time of it. I do think it's rude to interrupt people and correct them as they actually speak (and, as it were, I *am* an English teacher, so I've learned to rein in the corrections). Still, I have no qualms with people attemping to correct my French, my math, my taxes, my general ignorance in any area, and so on. Unless they're a dick about it, they're trying to help me. And this is not a live conversation, so the correction isn't rude; it's point of fact.

Your English seems excellent, in any case.

Let me move on to my actual question: Do you suppose the lefty juniors at the FO fall all over themselves to hit with Federer, or is it not as big a thrill for them as I imagine it to be?

When Roche coached him he hit up at least once with Roche's other pupil Aussie Sophie Ferguson. I guess he'll hit up with anybody.

By the way, gratuitous advice can be welcome but often it is not. If you go around correcting everyone, it is likely someone will get the *****.

The irony being this is gratuitous advice.

My first language is french and in was very happy to learn that this sentence wasn't correct, because it seemed ok. Thanks Slazenger.
